My apologies for the delay in posting photos of this year's exhibition; I have had a very busy month and it has taken me a while to sort out the photos. Also I uploaded them all to Photobucket then remembered I had not resized them so had them all to do again!
Unfortunately I found out during the exhibition that my camera would not work so "Thank you" to Gordon who came to the rescue and using my memory card, took photos for me with his camera. Later, before I packed away the exhibits I managed to take a few using my son's camera so these photos are a mixture of the two, hence why there are storage boxes around in some of them.
This exhibit was 16 feet by 4 feet and is of a modern street with a parade taking place.
Every year in Dumfries there is a parade called Guid Nychburris with bands and floats (decorated lorries) and this is based on this year's parade.
The diorama took about 2 days to set up, with all the shops to build and fill and all the people to put in. I stayed at the hall all night on the Friday to make sure it was finished and thought I had more or less managed to put in everything that I had intended to. It was only when the exhibition was over that I realised that I had forgotten to put drivers in the lorries
I don't know if anyone noticed but nobody said anything to me!
Because of the length of the diorama it was difficult to get an overall view but here are a couple of views looking down the street...
and up the street ...
The parade is always led by horses and riders who earlier in the day have ridden the boundaries of the borough. These are led by the Cornet and the Cornet's Lass ...
Two floats in the parade are based on some that were in this year's parade ...
Africadabra - an African drumming group I am a member of ... (I'm the one with the ginger hair and my son James, is the one with the shaker
)
And one called "One World" with people dressed as though from different countries...
The others are made up but loosely based on what has appeared in the parade in previous years ...
Pirates ...
Sports ...
and another group I am a part of and perform with - Dumfries and Galloway Ukelele Strummers and Singers (DUKES) ...
I would have liked to have put a bit more decoration on the lorries given time but that was lacking in the end!
Often there are vintage cars in the parade - here are mine ...(notice the wedding party who have stopped to watch - we actually did pass a wedding where everyone stopped to watch in this year's real Guid Nychburris parade)
Also in the parade are two bands, the guards band that I showed a little while ago ...
And the one I have had in mind for a long time and am really pleased with - The Stewartry Pipe Band ...
At the end of the street is a small cottage hospital ...
Maisie and Fred are in here - Maisie having sprained her ankle in the excitement, has come in for treatment ...
Next to the hospital in the small clinic a very pregnant lady has come in for a scan ...
Next door her husband is in the florists buying her a big bunch of flowers - how romantic!
...
Secretly she would rather he had gone a bit further down the street and bought her a large pizza!
...
Across the road at the vets, while the receptionist can watch the parade, the vet and his assistants have to carry on working ...
At the toyshop no one is buying Playmobil from the large collection they have on display
...
Meanwhile for some boys football is far more important than the parade! ...
In the bakers and the butchers their usual customers are all too busy watching rather than shopping ...
While at the pet shop a lone parrot has been left in charge ...
However in the hairdressers life goes on as normal ...
(Mrs Bunny took over as receptionist in here for a while
) ...
The supermarket has a few shoppers but not the usual crowds of people...
Although the bank is closed, the cashier was in such a rush to get home that he forgot to lock up all the money ...
And next door in the post office they are too busy to watch the parade as they are trying to get all the letters and parcels sorted before the van arrives to collect them ...
At the garden centre at the end of the street the customers and staff have all stopped to watch...
The parade will end on the school field - at the school although it is Saturday there are a few keen teachers and pupils putting in some extra study and attending an out of school art class ...
My son James set this up; it is based on his own school - I thought he'd done an excellent job!
So here is my first display - hope you like it.
I'll now get on with sorting out and uploading photos of the others.
