work is NOT progressing well. I had forgotten about some pirate sets i bought 10-12 years ago and  i have a floor covered with system x parts ( and i dont exactly love them) , coconuta trees ( over 30 of them ) big berthas, french soldiers, spaniards, english and lots of pirates and what seems to be monkeys and sharkies everywhere. 14 ships all together takes quite a bit of time to redo the ropes etc . awwww i am realluy stressed, this collection was buigger that i thought and i have a week left to set it all up ( not a lot of free time as baby sophis is priority of course , she is 15 months now btw) but i promise will be posting some pics next time me maties....

Relax, this sorting is supposed to be part of the fun. Don't be stressed out because of too much PM :)
Except for the system X parts, I hate those things fiercely too  :-\

I was wondering: what is a big bertha?

Come on, putting 300 (yes, THREE HUNDRED) of those blasted little things in the system x holes is supposed to be FUN! FUN! FUN! FUN! FUN! FUN!  ::)

The big bertha is that wide cannon from the redcoats (in the previous encarnation, at least) ;)

The big bertha is something i never liked actually. its cannonball looks stupid ( as do the current cannonballs in the eg western series ) and it does resembe a mortar gun at all if you ask me. i doubt i will be setting any of them in my set up. i have quite a few proper' old school cannons thank god ( over 50  8})

there was some progress yesterday - still in the shorting phase- will be posting some pics soon regardless of the set up being finished or not . if i dont finish this set up i will leave them as they are and continue next time we come to this place  :)

what is a big bertha?

In reality, "Big Bertha" is a nickname for a heavy artillery piece used by the Germans during WWI (pic 1), so not sure if it is a very appropriate name for a Playmobil pirates' cannon...

Big cannons allways got special names (often feminine ones  ).
Where I live f.e. we have a medieval (early 15th century)  supercannon on display in the city (pic 2), her name is "Dulle Griet", translated as "Tolle Grete" ins Deutsch and "Mad Meg" in English
(Only the gunbarrel is original. A few years ago, some city officials had the luminant idea to paint it bright red, as that is supposedly the original colour it was painted in around ca. AD 1431. ::) )

Quite a fleet you have there, and lots of pirate clickies waiting for you to put them in their place.  :)
