6349 - Oldtimer truck (DS) Review
« on: July 05, 2013, 12:44:34 »
Set: 6349
Description: Oldtimer truck (DS)
Theme: Dollhouse
Release date: 2013
Value for money: High

Review:

This truck has been released through Playmobil Direct Service (DS) in 2013. First released in Germany, then it will follow in other countries.
It is packaged inside a plastic bag and that is my main concern: It is packaged so loosely, that parts can scratch eachother in the bag.
The instructions sheet was also pretty wrinkled because of this. That could have been avoided easily. For example by sealing it in a seperate bag with a piece of cardboard in it.

The set is pretty cheap at €19,99, BUT it has almost no extra's to go with. For example: Both other trucks 5640 and 4083 had two spare wheelretainers, this one does not. The four wheelretainers are supplied loose, inside the bag.

It is a very nice and shiny sparkling truck. I think the colour scheme is great, really love the bronze parts. The molds are exactly the same (same numbers on all three), so all the parts can be swapped between the trucks.
Although it being very cheap, i do think Geobra could and should have included the whole spruce with the 6 wheel retainers and also adding a klicky. That would really make it a complete set. I honestly don't understand why they didn't.

Martin, great review!  Thank you.  Can't wait until they sell it here.  There are quite a few deliveries I want to make!

Thanks for the review and the pics! I'm looking forward to this truck, seeing as I don't have either of the others.

Thanks for the review, Martin.  I hope to buy two or maybe three for my heritage railway line.

Thank you for the review.

I wonder how historically accurate a white cab would be?

The brass coloured parts-I wonder if they are prone to breaking like the divers' boots?

"historically accurate" in what sense?  I'm not even sure that there was a company called Transport Union nor whether if there was its vehicles had white cabs.  I can see no reason why white should not have been used as a cab colour on a delivery truck of this age.

As in white as a cab colour.  Older vehicles tended to be darker colours and when a light colour was used it was a cream.

For instance, when the Model T was FIRST introduced in late 08 as a 1909 model, Black was not offered. The cars came in Red or Green for the touring car, Gray for the Runabout, Gray or green for the Town cars and Green for the Coupes and Landualets. by 1912 all the cars were painted blue with Black fenders, finally in 1913 the any color as long as it is black policy came into effect.

I've never seen a white carriage nor wagon.
