Customizing Bald Child Klicky
« on: March 09, 2013, 21:38:00 »
Howdy folks-  So my 3 1/2 year old has recently been diagnosed with brain cancer.  He had surgery a couple weeks ago, which went beautifully, and the tumor is gone.  In order to ensure that it doesn't grow back, he will need to go through 6 months of chemotherapy.  So he will lose his hair.  And probably feel like crap.  Wondering if anyone has any thoughts on how to customize a child klicky to reflect a bald head.
Also open to any suggestions of which child to use-  he is a fighter, and I would want any klicky representation to reflect his tough guy attitude.
Thanks for any thoughts!   ;D
Cheers-

i'm so sorry that your son and you and your family have to face this.

one thing that i thought of right off is perhaps using a sealing caulk, plasticene or putty to fill out the two spots (front and back of head) and then sand down any rough spots and, finally, touch up those spots with a matching skin tone color.

if what you're planning to do is more than 1 figure or you would like some help, please pm me. my family and i are happy to help.  i know a lot about childhood illness from our own experiences.

I'm so sorry to hear your family is going through that coyote! Glad to hear that they got it all, though. I've often wished playmobil would make a bald klicky that looks like it's going through chemo, as it would be a great way to comfort a child who is going through that.

As far as how to do it... some child klickys who have hair a different color from their eyes, like perhaps a blonde one, can have their hair peeled off. Once you peel it off, it leaves a round head that appears to have ears, and with a little cleaning up using some sort of putty, it could look quite convincing. Here is a picture of how the bare head looks: http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=8871.msg160185#msg160185

coyote, if you don't have one that fits the style bb mentioned above, we do and can send one to you if you like. i don't know what your son's feelings about hospital are but if you need one, just ask. we have some of the older playmobil hospital theme items - 70s? 80s? - and would be more than happy to send them along if they would be useful for your son.

Hmm- the teeth method worked well on the little guy I had hanging around my computer desk.  I will seek the appropriate epoxy and paint to complete the head.
I suppose I finally have an excuse to splurge on the hospital set-  :-\  he's already been playing with my ambulances...
Thanks!

good to hear. please just pm me if you want us to send you the old doctor stuff (it's the docs & nurses in that soft green and some other beds, etc.) or try to take a stab at customizing a few kids.

Hey Coyote. I'm so sorry to hear what your son is going through. I always feel awkward towards children disease, it is so unfair! I always felt grateful I became sick at 18 and not sooner.
You're facing my worst nightmare, I am deeply touched. I hope your son recovers fast after the chemo, and he will forget the worst of it with time.

About the custom you want to make: once you've filled the holes on the clicky head (milliput works nicely for this), you might want to use Citadel's Elf flesh, mixed with some white, yellow and red to find the perfect match for the skin colour (assuming you want to make a caucasian).
Best,
Arnaud

Good luck to you mate , I found the kids with the simpler torsos from the 80's and early 90's the hair came off early although I might have been lucky, I hope your sons treatment works and he likes his Klicky when it's done perhaps give the child Klicky a Teddy Bear or somethign similar  :)

Thanks for the advice and positive thoughts- Realized an old friend of mine has a wargaming shop, and I may farm out the painting to him.  And DrDalek, I need to find a child klicky wearing big black boots, cause my boy is going to stomp the **** out of cancer!  :D
