playmobil sad face
« on: February 01, 2013, 03:39:30 »
Although I didn't get quite as excited for all the new faces the fi?ures have brought us, one instance did make me a bit upset. I recently received the prisoner from the boy's series 2. I think he's a great design, nice and simple. I like how he's kinda off white instead of bright white. One thing, though, is he has a sad face. Normally, I'd think this was great, and the addition of a sad face amongst all the smilers is kinda cool, but for me and this figure it doesn't feel right. I understand why it's that way, and perhaps a kid will enjoy it, but take for instance set 3328 the captive prince ( http://www.collectobil.com/catalogue/items/3328.htm ), I like that set because I find it absolutely hilarious that the prince is smiling! I've just felt that Playmo always had such humor to their products, so this just is... weird I guess.

I know, I love the eternal optimism of traditional playmobil faces! But that may just be my nostalgia speaking. I seem to recall as a kid being a little irritated by having only smiles. Anyway, at least his head is reversible.

whaaaa...? ha ha! I lord. I must say that despite the fact that I had to put him together, I did not notice that. I just went and pulled his hair off to check. Sure enough, there's another face. It's rather sinister having another face behind his hair. It adds a whole new dimension. But I just checked, and this is the only of my fi?ures to have this. I wonder why, because not all of them have the normal playmo face.

Several figures have the double face, fortunately, the really creepy ones do.

Actually, though I'm not overly fond of the sad face, at least it IS a klicky face... Not the horrid mugs that for example the singers and skateboarder have - those are plain.. well... CREEPY.

Agreed, clickies should smile. Thats what makes them the very positive influence while working with them.

I used a few of the "sad" faces in my little "chain gang", and I didn't get depressed or burst out in tears, so it probably isn't all that bad...The "grinning/singing" faces on the other hand, THOSE I despise. >:(

Yes, I must say the sad face does not bother me nearly as much as the really creepy weird grins and stuff. It's still a classic face, just turned upside down.

Funny matter: when Richard Unglik made his "l'histoire du monde avec Playmobil", he photoshopped some of the smiles on the "14 juillet 1789, la prise de la Bastille" picture, making sad clikcies. At that time, PM France objected: no turned up smiles. And now, 2013 saw these same turned up smiles issued by the company themselves… Sign of the times??
