BTCV custom figure
« on: November 29, 2012, 22:08:37 »
I've had an idea in my head for a custom for a while since I saw some figures on ebay with green tshirts and high vis vest moulded on which remind me of the guys at BTCV (charitable conservation group), anyway I only found 1 place that sold the figures on their own about £1.35 for 2 but, alas missed my opportunity on that one.  Anyway so I had inspiration recently and was motivated over the last few weeks to put a custom figure together who'll look vaguely like one of the team because our boss is leaving at the end of week for a new job and he's having a leaving do on Saturday.

So to action I've ordered some spart parts off ebay hopefully just in time and this afternoon after a muddy day planting small trees (whips) in holes/puddles!  8} I headed off to Toysrus to pick up this set http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=5938 like the set so far but, don't know whether I can justify keeping it long term. After getting back at about 6pm and rushing about doing various things I've started work painting the BTCV logo http://www.thirdsectorsolutions.net/assets/images/btcv-logo.jpg on the back as best I can. Will try and take some photos of what I'm doing as I go and upload them when I get the chance before he gets handed over on Saturday evening  :)

The figures involved in my custom

"What is it? What's on my back?"

"It looks like a drawing of a leaf and the letters BTCV :-\" "What's a BTCV? ???"

Trousers and hair changed Simon is looking more accurate and ready to go

That's a very nice thought and I'm sure it will be very much appreciated.  Look forward to seeing the "green army" grow.

Thanks I'll have to see whether I can get some more figures cheaply it'll probably be quite graudal as I'll try to customise each one to resmeble a member of the team as I've done with Simon. Had a good time last night quite nosiy and busy and rather warm inside but, when I'd mananged to find everyone then I had a good time, one of the Volunteer Officers who I showed it to earlier this week said they were very touched and I think John was quite touched that I d gone to the trouble of bringing him a gift even before he'd opened it, Simon was certainly given the approval of all who saw him, I think his friend's a bit confused that his buddy who he's been with since he came out fo the factory has suddenly dissapeared though  :'( still he's got a good circle of new friends so I'm sure he'll be fine  ;) ;D

Wow this is really interesting, and your customs are great.

I love those Hi-Vis jackets! (I didn't know what set they were from before I read your post)

I thoroughly enjoyed looking through your site photos. I have done similar work in the past, and enjoyed it greatly :)

Thanks as I probably said above I saw them on Ebay ages ago for about £1.35 for 2 figures but, msised my chance on that one, I enquired to Playmobil about them and was originally given a cost of £9 something for 3 figures with the green tshirt which after correctly inputting the part number for the guy in the blue tshirt wa given a total of abotu £22 for 6 figures  :o  >:( no chance that I'm paying that much, will have to keep my eyes out and see if the figures come up again on Ebay I only saw the one person who used to sell the figures without the rest of the set.

I certainly enjoyed doing these figures as well if I can get some more figures I might have to work on my popping technique I've got ideas for which heads to use to make them look like the guys I work with jsut need the parts. It's also been really enjoyable for me because of the good reaction form everyone who's seen the figures at BTCV they're all really impressed, and my other little fellas already been involved in some photoshoots, he's got the startings of a workshop now he needs some proper tools so he can help us out  ;)  ;D
