Hello from the West Coast, USA
« on: October 21, 2012, 04:49:06 »
Hello everyone, my name is Liv (aka PlayMo.re), and I am excited to be a new member of this group.  I am currently living in San Diego, California, but will soon be moving to Phoenix, Arizona.  I work as a registered nurse, and will start a new job in the middle of November.

I have been asked to introduce myself with regard to Playmobil, and I think the new member questions and my answers do a good job of that, so here they are...

1. How did you find out about PlaymoFriends?

I've done many google searches for vintage Playmobil sets, and this listserve popped up often during those searches.  It looked like a great place to get some great information about vintage Playmobi, so I decided I would like to join.

2. How long have you been a Playmobil® fan?

I was a Playmobil fan from the time I was a young child in the 80's... my family spent much time in Norway, although I lived mainly in the US.  Because Playmobil was generally more well known in Europe, and therefore harder to find in the US, some of the most exciting gifts I received were Playmobil sets.  My very first set, a Christmas gift from my grandparents in Norway, was the Wintersport Family 3467, with kids, parents, and grand-parents on skis, sleds and ice skates.  And, of course, a Snowman as well.  As I continued to explore the Playmobil world, I especially loved the Pirate, Circus, and Victorian themes.

3. Are you willing to take an active role by moderating for a short
period, if the time allows? (Yes or No)

Yes, but at this point, I am not sure what this entails.

4. Do you customise your Playmobil® in any way or do other creative things with it? (If yes, explain briefly your area of interest.)

I have recently started using paint and decals made for fingernail decoration to add designs, colors, and other attributes to certain figures and accessories.  I know there are probably purists out there who don't think the pieces should be altered in any way, but I feel that they are simply enhanced.  And, I have plenty of sets which I would never change or customize.

5. What would you like to gain by being a member of PlaymoFriends?

I would like to have contact with others who find similar fun and joy from being around Playmobil toys.  I am pretty alone in this when it comes to my family and friends, so it is nice to know that there are others, just as crazy as I am, out there.

Okay, that's that.  I look forward to exploring the exciting conversation threads and photo folders you guys have put together here via the PlaymoFriends group.  Thank you so much for allowing me to participate in this forum!

Welcome from Portugal!

I have that set as well, the snow family :)  And the smaller variation, without the little wagon..

Looking forward to more on that "figernail decoration" customization! :picsplz:

Hi Liv and welcome :) Great you've decided to join us here at PlaymoFriends!

I don't think that anyone here would be judgemental, but have to admit, that you sound as though you're at the point I am with my customising too :D  I started off by trying to keep sets together (and yep, started in the 80's too!) and keeping all the boxes, but recently I think the thing I have the most fun with is in looking at other people's customisations and trying a few of my own :D  It never ceases to amaze me how creative playmofans can be, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what you've been doing - it had never occurred to me to use fingernail decorations as transfers :D

Hope you have fun here!
