A train could also work with the victorian theme, but western might give more possibilities with set ups around the tracks. Like bandits hiding behind some rocks as if they are waiting to rob the train.

Maybe one train stop could be at a western village, one at a mining camp and another at a fort?

Do people hand out playmo catalogs?

At the Seattle train show, the playmobil rep dropped off a bunch of catalogs to hand out.  Not nearly enough though so it was changed so you had to ask for one or how to get more info on the toys.

If you set it up on the floor, make sure you have a way to rope it off, so kids will not walk on the display.

Maybe low tables could be a good compromise?

Of course it's on a weekend when I have two other things going already.

I will look into getting the catalogs for you.

Treating it like the garden railway guys do is a good idea. If you do the kid interactive thing then you can cut a chunk out of the floorspace you need to cover.

For the theme - if you have limited brass track then I would plan on doing both. Have a mainline around the outside with a general modern setting, and then have a section set up like a theme park with it's own Western style train running in a smaller oval inside the other track. It could be a Western style theme park with an old town and a buffalo herd, cattle area. Or it could be multiple themes with a castle in the middle (can't imagine where I got that idea)  and then lands from the different themes. You might even consider doing the entire thing as a theme park. If you do some custom signs and have a parking lot and entry, people will figure it out right away, and then you can use anything you want.

Oh, that's a good idea! I've got similar plans to mix some historical things in with my zoo.

great ideas,

Tim, yes I need to get catalogs and I was going to call but if you have a better contact I could use it.

I was thinking about both plastic track and brass. the brass will have the Mary train and I could have the RC old timer on the plastic. then the kids could use the controller and play with a limited loop or two

I do want to stick with one theme for this one. When it gets bigger or easier I will get more elaborate on design
If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

can ships be incorporated into the western theme. I keep thinking of San Fransisco during the gold rush. And I may want to add Victorian houses with carrages if that fits in. any ideas ??

Here's a photo of San Francisco harbour in 1849 which says, "Yes, they can" to the idea of ships.  Victorian houses could, too, although in San Francisco wood rather than brick and stone was the most common building material.

yes but it is not going to be 100%. I want confederates and union armies and they were never there. I think I might have them working together to go after the Indians ??

How does dirt or fine mulch work for ground cover.

I think some kind of Mylar for the water

Then maybe sand or decomposed granite for roads and wagon trails

Anna has forwarded the request on to someone at PlaymoUSA.

I think you should just do whatever you want, it's Playmobil after all and that itself is the theme.

Keep in mind you have to haul all that stuff in and then clean it up and haul it back out. Do you have space at the new house to set at least part of it up ahead of time to work out issues?
