The Dread Baron.
« on: August 15, 2012, 17:49:09 »
There has been talk of late of an unknown knight plundering treasure wagons through the kingdoms.
The tale goes that it is a nobleman who pretends to be a good person to the public, but raids caravans at secluded places, even when they are well guarded by multible experienced knights.

Whoever could this mysterious and dangerous knight be?
The people have already given this menace a name though, they call him:

The Dread Baron.

((The story will start soon, this is just a little prelude for things to come.
This time featuring Henry, Roderick and Frederick together since it kind of naturally developed that way.
Roderick will still get a story focusing on him at a later date though.   ;)  ))

Sounds cool look forward to seeing more, I've had the fellow who is standing over them all since I was a kid always considered him to be an ordinary Knight thoughhe's missing his shield, sword proper helmet, spurs and his doggy oh yes and his beard's missing so it can't be him sneaking out at night   ;D ;)

Ah, this should be good! I think that's your best picture so far, Rhalius! Did you get a new camera?

Same camera actually, its a good camera. I simply dont know that well how to use it yet.  :(  It's pretty much always the close ups that give trouble.

This is really a great picture, Rhalius, very well arranged and I like the b&w effect. Looking forward to the story!

Taking pictures of playmobil is surprisingly difficult! Especially close-ups. If I must use the flash, which I usually need to because of poor lighting, I find it best to back off a bit and use the zoom (assuming you have an optical zoom and not digital, which will affect the quality) so that the flash isn't too bright. I still haven't figured out how to make red items turn out right, with or without the flash!

That would depend on the camera itself, Bonnie. With mine, it's the PM blue that always looks faded.
Love the b&w too, can't wait to see who's this guy. Some kind of evil Robin Hood, perhaps?

((zooming can sometimes be difficult due to me lowering the camera inside the courtyard or other tight places, but I will give that a try next time. :)
For now, let's get this story started. Enjoy. ))

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Growing concerned with this Dread Baron, King Phillip and Baron Blacktower have invited several knights of the kingdom to live at the castle, to help keep it safe.

They arrive precisely on time, three knights, a squire and a herald, but it seems there is also a lady with them! who could this be?

Being expected, they received a royal welcome in the courtyard. King Phillip, Baron Blacktower and Cedric the swan knight where eager to greet the new arrivals personally.

The soldiers looked in awe at the colorfull knights, but soon their attention went to the friendly lady who was waving kindly at them and everyone else with her hankerchief.

Frederick, Henry and Roderick (from left to right) weren't all too impressed with these additional knights. Although they where young they where sure of it that they could keep the castle safe from this baron. Their friend Charles the Templar Knight has also been around to help for a while now.

Henry: "they don't look so tough to me, I faced tougher knights in the tournaments."
Frederick: "Who does this other tower knight think he is with his feathered helmet and barded horse? he's surely trying to steal my place!"
Roderick: "I am sure they just come here to help us, they are not our competition."

The knights stepped down from their horses and presented themselves to the king while their horses where led away from the crowd by the stable boy and the maid.

King Phillip: "Welcome in my castle, I have summoned you all here to make sure we are well protected against the increasing dangers that threaten my kingdom."
Baron Blacktower added: "You have all been selected for your proven experience, not even a Dread Baron can hope to threaten us now!" He spoke boldly.
Sir Cedric just smiled at the new knights. He was fine with having more knights around, but was confident he could handle this Dread Baron on his own, and pretty much every other threat. He has proven himself both in tournaments and in war many times after all.

All three knights spoke together: "Hail king Phillip the third, we honour you as our king. Hail Baron Lambert Blacktower, we honour you as our lord. Hail Sir Cedric, we honour your bravery in battle. We hereby swear to protect your families, this castle and all its inhabitants."
These knights sure seemed impressive, each of them was well known for their accomplishments.
Sir Jory, a blacktower knight.
He had proven to be a favorite in jousting matches, and once protected several humble farmers against armed bandits on his own.
Sir Stephan, a Fleur de lis knight.
Also a jousting favorite, he  has fought bravely in several battles as well to protect the kingdom.
Sir Ranulf, another Fleur de lis knight.
A veteran who fought alongside King Phillip in the past, and saved his life once when he was still a prince. They where good friends in the past.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
((tomorrow or perhaps tonight the story will continue, and then the lady will be properly introduced.  :) ))

Nice story, very intriguing...
I do have a hunch, however, that Sir Ranulf, despite being an old friend to the King, is not what he seems to be anymore...
