Not receiving notification of replies
« on: August 13, 2012, 18:23:00 »
Has this happened to anyone else in the last  few days? - I'm not getting notification of replies to topics I've subscribed to.    The last notification I had was on 9th August.

Did you change your email address recently?
It's more likely that the emails are getting blocked rather than them not being sent at all.

My notifications are still coming through, although I noticed there is occasionally a small delay.

I changed my email address two years ago and things have worked fine until now.  I'll check and see if they are being blocked in my webmail.

No emails from PF have reached my email account for some days and just sending one to myself from PF hasn't worked, nor are there any messages in the spam folder.  I've changed my email address back to my old one and this works.

It's strange but some email providers block the forum notifications (it can happen quite suddenly for no apparent or obvious reason) and it is very hard to get them unblocked.  :(

I've had this problem for some time now, Gordon, and we've never been able to find a way to fix it. It's bad since I'm a mod, too, and I don't get the reported post notifications in my email. I don't get anything that comes from the PF server. I didn't change my email address, they just stopped getting through, then they suddenly started coming for a while, including a bunch of back notifications from weeks earlier, but then they stopped again. It's very strange.

It's comforting to know that it's not just me, Bonnie.  I've just checked the notifications I received against the list if unread posts, and it seems that through my other email address I'm being notified of some replies but not all.

It's important to note that if you've chosen to receive notification of only the first unread reply on a topic, then you will not receive an email every time someone replies to that topic unless you visit the forum each time (while logged in) and read the new post.

The notification system relies heavily on cookies, so if you are clearing those frequently after a browsing session there's a chance it might disrupt the notification system.
