Elaine offered me a larger area, but space in the car was the limiting factor as regards the size of the layout. The exhibition at Knaresborough earlier this year (
http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=10598.0) was much nearer to home (50 miles with the rear window largely blocked is one thing, nearly 200 quite another) and so I could load the car up much more, plus as Diane stayed at home on that occasion I had more room in the car for stuff.
The actual area for the train was 8ft by 8ft and there was about 40ft of track all told. One of the problems with a railway layout is whether it's a railway or a diorama with the railway as just part of it, and in the end I went for the latter.
