Do we need a new "button"?
« on: May 16, 2012, 04:12:03 »
I find it quite annoying that we don't have an additional button "recent posts/topics" showing e.g. the threads with new posts from the last 1, 2 or 3 days.

Reason: after viewing a post from the "last post since last visit" results this thread is not visible after pressing "last post since last visit" again. It is quite hard to find the thread again, all topics have to be listed first.
I like to first read some new messages and after I like to leave feedback a bit later.

This works really well on klickywelt.de and funtastic-plastic.de, as an example.

Anyone having the same preferences? Is it feasible to incorporate such a function?

Cheers,
HDL

I even had a hard time finding this post after sending. The overview of "playmofriends" only showed my post because nobody else posted another new message in another thread in the category my thread/post is in.
If nobody replies, I need to know the exact sub-category I posted/started the thread - otherwise I waste time searching...

What I do is click the "Show all unread posts" link at the top of the page whenever I come on. After looking through everything there, I then click "Mark all posts read" if I am finished. Then I can just repeat by clicking "Show all unread posts" again the next time I return to the forums to see anything that has been posted since my last visit.

If you use the "Show unread posts since last visit", which I think is the one you are saying you are using, it seems it will refresh after you follow a link, causing you to be unable to see some new posts. Try using the "Show all unread posts" instead and see if that helps you. So long as you don't read the post, this will show you all unread posts, even if they are from a few visits ago, so long as you've never read them. :-\

Go to the bottom of the home page.
Under forum stats you'll find the entry Latest Post
Beneath it lies the link ''View the most recent posts on the forum''
Is that what you are looking for?

You just need to look in slightly different places for things. ;)

On your Profile summary page, down the bottom is a link titled "Show the last posts of this person." This will help you quickly find all of your old posts.

There is also a setting which will return you immediately to your current topic after you have hit the post button. It sounds like you haven't enabled this. Go to Profile Summary > Look and Layout Preferences and check the box "Return to topics after posting by default."

It's a good idea to read through each of these Profile pages as you will find all kinds of customizable features. :)

Thanks, I learn something new each day.  You are an angel, Sylvia.  :)9

Pynedor: thank you, but this doesn't work, I can't see posts I have already read
Wolf Knight: thank you as well, this is a bit of a solution, almost what I am looking for BUT it would be good to have the posts sorted not chronologically but rather sorted by themes (so you get a list with all threads/themes where new or recent have been posted), but of course sorted starting from most recent downwards.
Sylvia: thank you also, this helps a bit (and was new to me) but still I was hoping to get something like mentioned above (to WK).

Cheers,
HDL

Hmm, well the only thing I could suggest if you want a list of recent posts, including those you've read, is to view them for the first time while not logged in and then log in when you want to post replies (which should make them unread again), but that seems to be a hassle. I don't think there's a way to have them grouped by their thread's theme though, but the available features are quite varied to appeal to a lot of forum-perusing styles. ;)
