how to make Asian wide-brimmed hats
« on: March 28, 2012, 04:21:57 »
for Bennain and any interested PFs!

those who eat sushi will understand when I say I cut round discs, slit one radius and fold it like a "California Roll" (2 edges overlap making a cone with less than 90 degree slopes.

these are not solid enough, so I wait for Geobra to make one soon, hopefully

Thanks Cheng! A view of the pattern you use for these would've been great too!

Yes and no. I meant the pattern of the hat laid flat before assembling. Of course, I didn't need this Mon, but maybe others will!  ;)

Your method seems quite easy to do, cheng! Thanks for showing us. Btw, my mom actually has one of these hats, straight from Vietnam. Some very dear friends brought it to her as a gift after going back home for a visit. They had to hold the three of these hats that they were bringing back to the US on their laps for the entire flight from Vietnam!

you'll have to send me some more ...I've used up all the transfers you printed for me(they'll be very easy to understand)...as for a cut PVC disc, err, will have to cut another one (i don't cut away any section because I need them to overlap)

I should have scanned it first...but if you still have it somewhere on your PC, can you share it here as a jpeg pic?

Yes, woven from straw, lacquered, and decorated with red trimmings.
