Yes, well we americans have been playing with and collecting european styled pm vehicles for the the last three decades, and can still manage to tell a garbage truck from a school bus. ;)

I guess I just take pickyness to a new level

These items (along with the even worse US fire truck) were all made for the US market in China, as opposed to Europe (Germany/Malta)

I'm a bit of a Playmobil Purist, so won't go near them as I don't see them as true Playmobil in the same sense :-\

Yeah, after the made-in-china firetruck, which was TERRIBLE, with hard plastic tires :hmm:, we had a pretty bad taste in our mouths. But they do seem to have improved their standards for made-in-china stuff, which helps a little. Still not too thrilled at it, wish they would just keep making everything in Europe.

In the end, we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. We will understand only what we are taught.

No wonder they are cheap then, I prefer boxes to toys lol... the garbage truck box looks nice but dont like ambulance box with the writing in the corner as doesnt look right on the blue box.

I do think that this ambulance and the school bus seem more like a generic toy one might see in a Walmart. I bought the school bus anyway, as we really wanted a school bus, but it certainly does not hold up to the expected Playmobil standard. I've not actually seen the garbage truck, but I want one. I like the look of it. But, doesn't it come with only one trash bin? The much older garbage truck I have came with at least 6 bins!

The back of the recycle truck box only showed the one bin and lots of little bits that I presume were rubbish.

I don't collect these themes, but I have always thought that some of the newer vehicles looked much cheaper, simpler, and unrefined. I never knew it was because they were produced in other places, but that is telling. Thanks for sharing the sale though! ;)

I can't get them all - RESTRAINT! - so I'd prefer the yellow american school bus (we don't have those here)....

Tesco probably bulk buy these products to sell in their 'half price toys' sale, which they hold at least once every year as a Loss Leader (I suspect). They probably wouldn't stock the yellow school bus though, because UK children would be unfamiliar with the idea (except from watching Simpsons or other american TV programmes)- home to school transport in the UK, where it exists, makes use of 'standard' buses and coaches. Ambulance and recycling trucks are found on our streets however (right hand drive of course, but children may not really mind that).
At that moment the ship suddenly stopped rocking and swaying, the engine pitch settled down to a gentle hum. 'Hey Ford.' said Zaphod, 'that sounds good. Have you worked out the controls on this boat?' 'No,' said Ford, 'I just stopped fiddling with them.' (With thanks to Douglas Adams)
