where I take most of my pics (test pic)
« on: March 04, 2012, 20:05:38 »
I've noticed my close-up shots of my playmo (klickies, ship-details) are getting better, but with taking shots from a complete ship or so, I still have to exercise to overcome blurs / fuzzines.
As the weather is mostly grey and dark here in this time of year, I'm also a experimenting a bit with artificial light and / or using flash...

This pic with flash came out ok, it sitll is a bit dark but not as fuzzy as I used to get them at this distance. I thought of sharing the pic, as it shows my "working table" where I put together most of my customs and take pics of them.
You can see the (slightly) enlarged Falcon Castle on it (used as an English redcoat bastion), and a galleon named "Vlaenderen" carrying the Flemish flag (yellow with a black lion), and some custom-klickies above the window...

I can't believe you're making your customs on this table, Erwin! It is so tidy!
My Playmo-desk is a mess, only I can find something there! Which is part of the fun also.
Are you using a tripod/stand when you take pictures? Might help.
Best,
Arnaud

Well, not if I'm spraypainting parts or so, that's done somewhere else.
But as I mostly make customs from switching existing parts, yes that's where i put them together (though when I'm lazy I sometimes work in the couch too).
The table is often full of parts (even on the floor), but I clean up every day  :P
I often just work through till I've gotten a figure the way I want it, then all the other parts get stored away again.

And yeah, for pics a tripod might help! Never used one sofar, I usually just hold my breath to keep musles & hands steady... ;D I also like to take shots from a perspective like one is among the klicky-action, then a tripod is not so easy to use. I'm also still trying out how much zoom to use for different distances...

Maybe a new camera then? Xmas is far gone, but Easter's close!
Not advertising, but I bought a Nikon Lumix bridge camera a few months ago and it rocks! The close-ups are unbelievable, even in low light. Officially, this camera was for work... ;D

Also, you might have a close-focus option on your camera for pictures that are within a few inches to a few feet. It might be indicated by a tiny flower or something. :) That might help with the blur.

That's a very neat and attractive work area, for sure! My work area usually consists of an old folding table stuck wherever I can find a spot for it.

Nikon Lumix? Isn't Lumix from Panasonic? Maybe I'm just mixing them up - I know nothing of pics - with me, it's point and click  :-[

The only thing I control is the zoom... For concerts I use that option that makes 3 pics in a row, and hope one in ten (optimistically) will be with focus ok...  :P

Pynedor is right, I have 10+ optical zoom and a macro-function (setting to adjust is manual), so I've to try out several settings for different distances, sofar I've been most busy with close-up shots of customized klickies.

But my camera is an old beast meanwhile (I got it from my friend "Brubil", a belgian collector famous for his dioramas in Wolfsburg and on Luxplaymodays), and I'm looking for a new one, in a price-range somwhere around 300 to 500 euro max... So not a real digital reflex-camera, but something that comes close to that (without the reflex-stuff) and that works on ordinary batteries...

Sofar I've had a look on some of the better ones of the Nikon Coolpix-series.
Any ideas or suggestions for within the price-range I'm searching?

Erwin, I can recommend the Kodak Z5010. It's a nice in-between range camera. Better than your typical point-and-shoot -- good picture quality, better indoor-lighting pics, great zoom -- without getting into the price range of the better-than-point-and-shoot Nikons. It's not professional quality or anything, but if you're basically wanting to take playmo pics, family pics, etc. without them being fuzzy and grainy, it's a good buy. It was $300 when I bought it, I see it's come down some, and they have a newer model now that may be even better. http://store.kodak.com/store/ekconsus/en_US/pd/MAX_Camera/productID.221644300
