The grass is a piece of flannel cloth that I found at the fabric store. It has a variegated green pattern. I actually have a blue backdrop that I use that is the color of the sky, but it usually ends up looking wrinkled (it is cloth hung like a curtain) so the sky and hills are added digitally. I select the blue back cloth with the magic wand tool in Photoshop Elements with a tolerance of about 25, contiguous, and with a few clicks it is all selected. Then I delete it and put in a new sky layer behind. The hills are another layer between the sky and foreground that I painted in using colors from the grass. I like the way the simple painting looks, it is in a style that works with the Playmo without distracting from it. This is set up on a table in my dining room. It's about 36x45 inches, about a meter deep by about 1.25 meters wide.
I will take a picture of the room as it is set up so you can get an idea of what it looks like. Right now I am in transition getting ready to do Halloween. I have a foam board base that is 4 by 4 feet (about 1.25 meters square) that I think I will put on top of the table to extend it a bit. I have a nice grey felt in that dimension that I will use as a base cloth. I intend to use a black sheet for the back cloth on that one. I have a halloween photo scavenger hunt I am doing and thought I might try setting up all 20 of the items out of Playmobil in a single photo.
