Proposing new topic in the Welcome forum

Hello @Moderators, & @Sylvia!

There's a couple of threads about coming back.

I thought about doing a thread in the welcome area, with link to all of them, but then I thought ... It'd better be done by administration, if the idea is good. So, here are the links, and the suggestion is that it's a sticky topic, so that it doesn't get lost, once lots of people join PlaymoFriends usually.

WHERE ARE THEY? This came up as an interesting thread, once Richard told a brief story of the Playmobil community :)
Where we are In another forum I came up with "The Lurker's Thread", because there I really lurk ... Not my case here. I think a thread like this might make people feel happy to know it happens in everyone's life ... 8}
Where is everybody? Bill got a little bored, once, so this came up to him ... It happens with all of us, sometime ;D

(Or maybe only moving the "Where we are" thread up there, and stick it ... Anyway, just an idea.)

I like the idea of making the where we are thread a sticky. I've tried to locate it before when I was going to be away for a bit and couldn't seem to find it. Or we could make a new topic and make it a sticky.

That last tread is interesting. There's almost always a lot going on here now. But I've noticed looking back at old threads, that even a fantastic photo story might only get three or four comments on it. I guess things have changed here a bit. But still, when someone who posts here frequently is absent for a few days, sometimes I worry about them! So it would be great to have an easy place to say hey, I'm going away for a few days guys. On second thought, though, maybe this should be in a members-only area? For safety reasons?

I don't know ... The main difference is that in an open area, you'll remember you should keep some discretion ::)

I like the idea to fix it in the Welcome board, but it's up to you guys. It'd kind of work in the Common Room. But I guess it'd be a little far away from the common lurker who's sneaking in the Welcome Forum, wondering "do I present myself again? ... It's been such a long time ... :-\ "

Maybe, if it's in the Common Room, or in the PFZ, it should be a link from a closed fixed topic in the Welcome board ... I think this link with the Welcome Forum is the point, I don't know ... Just a feeling ;D

Well... it's possible we should have two separate threads. One for saying hey everyone, I'm back, after a really long absence of several months. And a different topic for saying, hey everyone I'm going to Hawaii for two weeks, see you when I get back. This second one I think would need to be in a private area, because you have to be careful about announcing on the internet that your house will be empty for two weeks, especially if you are using your real name for your screenname. All this is just brainstorming, though. Have to see what the other mods say.

You know what could be cool?: a sort of an annual "signature list" ... It kind of happens in the celebrations messages ("merry christmas", &c.), but it'd be one more place to give people the chance to give some sort of feedback: to make once a year a list (for a couple of weeks or a month like, in January, or March (maybe not January, because there may be people away on hollidays ...)) where people who are active on the forum would be invited to "sign" (say "I'm there!").

A thread in the Welcome board, or even the News/Greetings of the PFZ, with text like: "If you're in the forum, sign this list, so that we can have an idea of who's been there! (No matter if you post little or nothing at all.)"

(I've just had this idea :P lol!)

Well, when you look at a person's profile, you can see when they were last active. So it's easy to tell if they're around or not, even if they aren't posting.

The other forum I am on (the one that has nothing to do with Playmobil!) has a topic headed "Away" and it's in the "Off Message" section, so if anyone is going to be absent from the forum and think they will be missed they can post there. They also post there to say they are back on the forum again.  We keep it "off message" (like the Playmo Free Zone here) so that if people have had a holiday, perhaps, they can share their experiences and possibly post a few pics when they come back if they want to.  Likewise if someone has a forthcoming spell in hospital, they can use that section to update their friends of progress and it keeps it away from the main purpose of the forum.

People are "away" for lots of reasons and they don't even have to be "away" - just breaking their addiction to forum life for a bit  :o

i havent seen such a think in other forum I am a member of also .....  :hmm: :hmm:

It'd be only one more activity. For those who like to participate in such a thing it'd be cool. It's only an extra thread, though ... ::)
