Following up on Tim's comment about UK style hydrants in this thread http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=387.0;topicseen, here are pics of one I made some years ago.

There's somehting odd about the pics.  If you click on them to open in a new tab or window they're very small, but if you click on them in the post itself they open in the post big.

Neat work, Gordon! Thanks for sharing the pics. :)9

No idea what caused the temporary size problem with the attachments, but I'm glad to hear it sorted itself out! :)

That's pretty cool, Gordon ...

I don't know of anything quite like that in the States!

Thanks for sharing,
Richard

Hm, I think I have also seen something similiar here in Germany during my military services. The "hydrant" you attach to the ground pipe looks a bit different (but I can not remember exactly).

BTW, cool customizing. I like the sequence style which explains very well.

Its a very different approach than what the US does.

I wonder how each method rates against the other for speed of connection, amount of water, problems with parked cars, etc.

Hydrants over here tend to be set in the road itself, some way out from the kerb.  Hence, parked cars are not usually a problem.

Speed of connection is probably about the same, while the amount of water delivered depends on the local water pressure, which can vary a lot from place to place.
