Grand Mansion 5301
« on: January 09, 2010, 00:07:08 »
I really want a big house for my little playmo people. Ever since I saw it for the first time, I've been looking at the grand mansion and dreaming of the day I could buy it.

Now, as I understand it, it doesn't seem like they will produce it anymore? It has been removed from the website.

My local toy store is having a sale until Friday January 15. ALL toys, including Playmobil, have a 30% off tag on the original price. They have one of those mansions left!

I think I will get it!

Out of curiosity, though... is that Mansion a kind of building that can be customized? Can I make it bigger? (by other means than the floor extension that is already sold for it, I mean). It seems to say it is a "click" system or whatever it is called. (Wow,I really am new... sigh)

I'll probably get it anyway but it would be even better if in the future I could modify it and stuff.

That one is less easily modified than the older Victorian version, mainly due to the floor shapes. If you like the older style this is probably your last chance to get one at a good price.
If you like the Modern House as well as this one then it would give you many more customization options. A lot depends on your preferred era in styles.

Interesting that they no longer sell the Grand Manse, but do still sell the extension.

I wonder if they're preparing a new dolls' house for release?

The "click system" is neither System-X nor Steck, but appears to be akin to the system used for the Western buildings. Difficult to expand horizontally , but you can stack them to a degree as we have seen in a recent custom.

Incidentally Feather, the move from Steck to System-X for the knights theme was also disliked by most of us because the crenellated walls cannot be stacked vertically in X, as they could before. All the big castle custom designs you see are therefore Steck system.

I recomend you the 5300, from my point of view it has more possibilities of customizing. Playmobil is not going to produce 5301 either but you can find this beautiful Mansion (the 5300 as well) online, in ebay for example.
I am spanish and I am use to buy things in the german ebay, everything is much cheaper there, and the price of the shipping is not really high.

Thank you everyone for your advice and information.

I have decided to wait with buying a big house. After seeing the differences between 5301 and 5300, I want to wait for a good opportunity on the 5300. There are so many things that can go with it, and it looks so much better. I have a thing for anything before 20th century when all the huge technology came and changed the world. lol

I'll keep you guys posted regarding my Victorian house research. :)

I think you will be happy with your choice! Now you will need to find a 5300 available at a fair price, & that will be a challenge! Start saving for a premium price if you want it in pristine condition  :o! I had both of the 5300 & 5305 houses just as they were starting to retire, & they were excellent sets  :)9!

Forget about all of the other stuff,....all we need is the reintroduction of the 3526 Fire Engine!

Hi Feather

I have both and I would say that the 5300 is a better looking house due to its color tones. The 5301 is too yellow-ish in my opinion and it does not allow for simple modifications. The 5300 has that beautiful glass porch and the layout of the interior is better. The 5300 has interior door ways that are realistic.

Now there are some new sets coming out that have not been identified. There is a list of 53xx sets that we do not know what they look like. It could be  :crossed: a beautiful Victorian house similar to the 5300. The prices seem to be right in line with the old Victorian's

The 5301 also left out any stairs, which they thoughtfully provided as an add-on at extra cost, and it also has those odd cut-outs, giving less floor space. It's as if they felt a re-design was necessary, but forgot how children play with a dolls house.

Of was the re-design a result of studying girls and boys at play? My wife suggests that stairs are unnecessary (you imagine them) and the cut-out allow better access for moving things around.

Apart from the disgusting colour, is the 5301 a better design for children?

No kids yet, but I am familiar with the concept of baby mustard from other people's bundles of puking joy.
