Zimmermann / Carpenter
« on: May 06, 2015, 12:47:32 »

In need for a carpenter to staff my latest dio I just did some scratchbuilding. A key chain klicky provided me with fitting trousers, and after applying Dremel, abrasive paper and some paint, the lower half looked quite good.

As indians hardly fit into my 1900-dios I sacrificed that body, cleaned it and completed it with a black (bikers) west. A Mounty's head perfects the carpenter.

I like him very much.  A great idea for a new mystery figure.

A very neat piece of work.

I didn't know zimmermann was carpenter in German.  On reflection, though,  the first syllable does sound rather like the noise a saw makes going through wood.

Nice work  8-)  Great colours on him too.

P.S. I cannot resist: Carpenter = Zimmermann (in German); timmerman (in Dutch) > It's a word a with a Germanic root ("timra"). You can still see it in the English word timber too.
It used to mean 'something made of wood'. The word 'room' in German is also Zimmer, and it has the same origin.

Thanks for your nice words - danke für die netten Kommentare.

My English's too limited to be sure of possible varieties in English, but in German we use to differ between...
...a "Schreiner" or "Tischler" - referring to cabinet (Schrein) or table (Tisch) and characterizing a carpenter who usually manufactures chairs, tables and stuff like that;
...and a "Zimmermann" - a carpenter building houses - especially roof timberings.

Nice work on the trousers he looks like a good carpenter and I like the simple idea of painting the handle on the saw makes it look so much more realistic  :)

i did think the same Birdie: zimmerman is more used as a term in German for a room- or structure builder, whereas tischler or schreiner is used for the woodworker constructing furniture or other stuff.
zimmerman is indeed more like the Dutch profession/word timmerman, where tischler or schreiner is the same as meubelmaker (furnituremaker) in Dutch.
