My English's too limited to be sure of possible varieties in English, but in German we use to differ between...
...a "
Schreiner" or "
Tischler" - referring to
cabinet (
Schrein) or
table (
Tisch) and characterizing a carpenter who usually manufactures chairs, tables and stuff like that;
...and a "
Zimmermann" - a carpenter building houses - especially roof timberings.
