A question on Spanish conquistadores sets
« on: February 11, 2008, 21:05:42 »
Hi all

I saw in the recently posted 2008 Playmobil catalogue (posted by Customizer http://download.playmobil.com/public/eCS/Store/de/FSICatalog/index.html) that Playmobil will release two Spanish conquistadores sets in 2008:

4294 Soldatenbastion mit Leuchtturm
and
4295 Schatztransport im Ruderboot

However, I found in eBay a person selling this group of 5 identic conquistadores that I attach here.

Do you know it these are not taken from another, older set?

Also in eBay, "earlymidnight" sold 5 conquistador helmets, which are identical to those of the 2008 catalogue and more appropiate than those used in the five figures above (which are simply not-painted versions of the helmets of German mercenaries of old sets as 3482 - "City mercenaries"). Here I attach the picture.

At the end, "sblaur" in eBay Spain sells this as a conquistador, having the old helmet also.

If you can tell me where are these parts from, I would much thank you.

Hi Pyrhus!

First of all: The spanish sets you are mention (4294 and 4295) are out in the stores in Germany for quite a while already... It takes about a year before the sets get released in other countries...
The new sets from last year are typically marked as NEW in the catalogue...
...the real novelties have the release date attached to the NEW. ;)

But you are right, the helmets at eBay are different, they come from a NORDSEE exclusive set. You find details here:

NORDSEE is a german fast food chain specialized on fish...
...and Playmobil Give-Aways...  ;D

I got a few of those Nordsee figures from a friend in Germany - IMO these figures are some of the best yet produced, with printing on the back as well as the front. Shame the helmet was not quite right. I also got the gameboard, but my German isn't quite up to understandign how to play. Clearly the pirate, soldier and ship's captain are racing around for treasure.

To clarify, the first 5 figures are probably direct ordered figures, with the not-quite-right helmet. They're not the same as the Nordsee figures - the belt, hair and head are different.

The separate helmets are better for conquistadores, and so earlymidnight might have got them through DS order, and offered them as replacements for Nordsee figures.

The single figure is a customised figure that someone's put together. When I started buying on eBay I bought a couple of customs, but quickly realised I could do the same thing myself cheaper, and now avoid them, though I see some sellers are making a nice little profit with customs.
