4409 - St Martin of Tours & Beggar

Martin cuts his cloak in two. The beggar wonders if it will fit in his begging bowl.

The beggar now has a cloak, and can go off and become a pirate.

N.B. The cloak on the beggar in the final picture does not come from this set.

An interesting set only available in Germany (as far as I know).

The figure of St Martin is clad slightly differently from the regular Roman officers, using the leg mould from the Archer (30 00 2762) in different colours. Martin's horse has a saddle/barding combination I've not seen before (30 26 0370).

The cut cloak is part 30 27 6220.

I must say - I have this set for a while now and it is indeed a wonderfull set. I really like the beggar best, actually. As far as I can tell, it's a unique figure. And usuable in so many themes and settings!

A very nice (and thorough) review of set 4409, albeit ever so slightly "irreverent" ... especially for your patron saint ...

However, I must agree that the beggar would make a great pirate ... 

Thank you for sharing this very interesting set with us. Unless Playmobil decides differently, I'm afraid that most of us in North America will only see pictures of St. Martin and the beggar.

Thanks for another excellent review, Martin.  It's a nice touch of detail to provide two cloaks, a whole one and a cut up one - typical of Playmobil.

So that explains why you get all of those cloaks so you can play out the story. I just bought the set because it was connected to the Roman theme and had no idea about the story behind it.

If you also look  at the beggar on the box images you will also notice that his tash is just bellow his mouth.
