I used battery operated wreath lights for the stage lighting. Then I turned off all the lights. I set the camera to
Exposur: 6 seconds
Aperture: f/6.3
Focal Length: 35 mm
ISO Speed : 160
then I used a
DIY Ice Light (PVC pipe with a powerful LED flashlight) to gracefully light up specific areas. You wave it like a lightsabre.
Here is a pic of the set up

I also used the Ice light to light up this lunar scene.

I had a remote flash, aimed away from the scene, but about 18" away to give a strong light source from the left. I aimed it away so it wouldn't wash out. Then I used the ice light to lightly light from above and from the right. I played around a little until I got the right exposure.
Exposure: 6 seconds
Aperture: f/8.0
Focal Length: 35mm
ISO Speed: 160

Same set-up, but I used the ice light to make sure the skull was lit alright.
