FAO Schwarz
« on: May 25, 2013, 02:25:44 »
Every year I do a dio for Christmas (last year's spread covered a ping-pong/table tennis table) but this year I only had room for a tiny dio. When I saw the FAO solider, I decided to turn the Victorian (5300) mansion into a FAO Schwarz flagship store (complete with Playmobil for sale in the conservatory windows ;D - but of course!)

The red FAO bags are handmade - made 50 of them.

For those who love Chicago, one might recognize the green Marshall Field's bags - but that's what I remember about growing up in Chicago in the '90s - holiday trips to downtown for lunch at Field's, look at the windows, and head over to Michigan Avenue for a look-around at FAO Schwarz before it closed and the red star store killed Field's.)

These pictures were taken before I had installed the wreaths in the windows - I will try and find the other pictures as I put up a Christmas Market scene in front of the building along with fake snow (some can be seen in front of the steps).

Enjoy!

Wonderful pictures!  Loved FAO in NYC.  It was always a favorite stop on our Christmas field trip when I taught in Manhattan.  I didn't know they had a store in Chicago.  I'll bet it brings back wonderful memories!

It's beautiful!  We only put up a box scene with the woodland creatures and snow inside a large aquarium cause little hands run away with the scene.  Great job!
