BP,

The Hind is English too, though it belongs to a different era then the Renown and Surprise. Sir Francis Drake (a fellow from England in the 16th century) had a flagship named "Golden Hind", and he often raided Spanish ships and porttowns.

ah, that be Sir Francis Drake's ship!  cool!  He would be the greedy chap that kept veering from the fleet to loot stray Spanish galleons while the rest of the small fleet attempted to break down the Spanish Armada's Cresecent formation!  I didnt know that was his ship :)

And last pic; an overview of the ships together.

WOW! What a lovely fleet! The way you have changed the side decals makes such a huge difference in the overall look of the ships.

This brings back 35 year old memories of the first time I saw the models in the Maritime Museum in Greenwich! And was totally blown away due to the size and scope of their collection. And the fabulous huge oil paintings of the fleets at war. Such magnificent historical paintings. Cannot imagine living in the 15-17th centuries.

In 1980 I spent a month sailing a tall ship with 5 masts 53 sails in the Caribbean while doing humpback whale research, and with a 4 hour on and 4 hour off work schedule, managed to get almost no sleep. These buggers are indeed difficult to sail. We had to climb up to yards about 30 meters high and pull up sails with 15 people all at once...while the ship is swaying way too far to the side.....talk about a nightmare! It does make one appreciate how easy modern large ships are too sail with all of their mechanical and computerized aids.

Thanks for a glimpse at your outstanding fleet! Pgal

BP: I am flattered! Just don't make me sail any tall ships again, PLEASE! And I gotta run this by Hubby, of course! He's built several model Titanics, and yes, they all have managed to sink quite well. And his small Christcraft motorboat model actually went around the pond a few times before almost exploding. But he is not into sailing ships.

I do love model ships of all kinds, and Greenwich is definitely the best place in the world to see them. I hope that PM will keep making more realistic models in the future, but this seems unlikely with them having to be inexpensive and easy to assemble. Maybe we could offer a trip to Greenwich to the head ship designer at PM as a way to get them into more detailed ship sets.

Take care, and I will keep your offer in mind whenever Hubby needs replacing; he's hanging in there at the moment!!! Pgal
