Tips from Playmoboard members
« on: July 09, 2009, 01:06:45 »
Hi

These are some things from playmoboard i did not make,
But thought everyone should see before it closes.
Feel free to add things

First is erasing my David donachie

Well we tried the method of removing the eyelashes on female klickys with a pencil eraser last night (thanks to all of the people who gave us the suggestion) and it worked perfectly, and didn't even touch the blushes in the cheeks.

Next I will have to try it on the freckles on the wandering monk, which I have been told can also be removed in the same way, and see how well that works. It doesn't take very long to erase anything on a playmobil, except for unshaved men. This is only because it is hard to get down into the neck area with an eraser. You can also use erasers to remove any sort of printed-on decal on the clothing... if you are into customising pieces.

If you contribute to this thread please add photos, i just didn't have time for it, and there weren't any.

         Please add

Now accesories from Playmowars
{The accessories are from Sylvanian famlies, or calico critters in someplaces,
I actually have some my sisters have a lot. You can expect pics tomorrow}

There's a toy line called Sylvanina families that makes sets that are perfectly compatible with Playmobil. They are also known as Calico critters in the US. The have some great resources for customizers. You can find great Playmobil scale food items like pizzas with pizza boxes etc. etc. Here's a link to the site: www.sylvanianfamilies.com

This one i've acctually used

Those of us living outside of the USA might not realize that the little pirate cannons sold in the States have had their springs removed - presumably out of fear that Playmobil will be sued if somebody shoots themself in the eye (guns are legal, but Playmo cannons aren't - go figure!?!).

Anyway, retrofitting the cannons is not difficult. Just behind the two lugs that mount the cannon barrel on the carriage are two small squares which are actually clips holding the two halves of the cannon together. Gently push these squares in with a pen (not too hard or they will be permanently bent out of shape) and the back of the cannon will just fall off.

Now take out the rod inside the cannon and go to your local hardware store and look at their collection of little springs. You need one that fits onto the rod by sliding over the round end of the rod, i.e. the end you would hold to pull back to fire the cannon. The rod should be able to slide freely inside the spring. A spring about an inch and a half long should be about right. Buy enough to retrofit you entire arsenal, plus a couple more as you are bound to lose a few on the way home.

Slide the spring onto the rod, insert the spring back into the barrel and gently click the two halves of the barrel back together again.

Procede to knock over all your pirates and lose all your cannonballs under the fridge or sofa (this second step takes about two-and-a-half minutes). Realize that the great thing about the Big Bertha is not that it is safer, but that it is much harder to lose the cannonballs.

From yrragnwad

Yes they can be repaired, the sagging nags head only takes a few minutes to stiffen up, I have done loads in the past.

It's another hot water method, hold the horses body in one hand get hold of the nags head ( nice pub just down the road) & pull it off backwards towards the horses body.

You should of course put the kettle on first, one cup for your tea & one cup of hot water for the horse. Don't put the horse into boiling hot water, let it stand for a few minutes you only want too warm the plastic up. If you put a black horse straight into hot water it sort of bleaches it & sends it greyish.

All you need to do is put the neck part into the water & leave it too warm up, give it a 3 - 5 minutes, take it out & then just squeeze the 2 neck sides inwards using gentle preasure, you don't want too close the gap just reduce it by about 1mm.

On the horses head you will notice two round raised parts either side on the bottom, these need to be located into the 2 grooves one either side on the neck slot of the horse, with the head held in an up position just push it back in until the two lumps click into the inside part of the holes you see on either side off the horse.

Test it for stiffness if it's still loose do it again, eventually you will get it right every time first time with practice

 This is from "Golden Knight"
Intersting...

The corners of the dollhouse will slot together to form a nice steep spire for a 2x2 building. It's dark grey with a little black rail around the edge of it. It takes a bit of time to align the four pieces but they go together nicely and because the dollhouse is also stek-system will attach to a 2x2 castle tower.

It should also be easier to obtain these corner sections than the old red ones from the fachwerkhaus range.

Another from "Golden Knight"
There is another method from mofreaky
http://www.mofreaky.com/page_essays/content/shield_grip/shield_grip.htm

The large shield such as what the Golden Knight and Dragon Knight have, have a large handle on the back.
With a bit of force this can be forced over the hands of a klicky. The klicky must not of course be wearing any cuffs or other arm accessories.
Now your klickies can hold a pole weapon in two hands and be protected by a shield. It looks great with lots of klickies standing side on (and close together) with heads turned to face the right direction and spears and so forth levelled at you from behind protective shield walls.

This is from dusty

Looks really good

I have been asked how I went about making the skirt. Well, it took a lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth (warning, making of skirts not for the faint-hearted playmo-lover)
First, what you need is a hack saw, and a small rubber grippy clamp. draw a line along a long skirt to the desired length. Next, clamp it down and saw off the skirt right below the line (make sure you can still see the line so you can file the bottom smooth). Then, take a pair of solid-colored legs (easier to saw and later file) and set them on top of the newly sawed skirt. draw a line a few centimeters above where the skirt is sawed off (toward the top of leg) Clamp and saw. Now you have the two parts you need for the skirt. File both the bottom of the skirt and the tops of the legs even and smooth. Look inside the skirt. There will be some bumps inside. These are the killer of the ages… haha… you need to put the pantleg below the skirt and pay attention to where the bump inside the skirt will hit the leg. Now, file a small hole in the side of the leg to fit the bump. Sounds easy, right? It’s not… anyway, once you’ve got this done, you’re pretty much done. Now just attach the legs to the skirt with waterbed repair glue. It works a lot better than anything else I’ve come across. :)

This one is way cool From "Tiger1983UK"

I just thought I would show a picture of another great weapon my Dad made for my klickys. This is a spear that he made the shaft is wood with brass fittings and the point is made out of steel. The great thing about it is that it is properly balanced so can be really thrown and will always land point down. I have no idea how he made it.

I know one way to take logos off of cellphones is to rub them with a sugar cube… ¿Would that work for these applications?
If I’m jealous, you did SOMETHING right. Keep it up. :D
