a small bit of organization
« on: January 24, 2009, 23:33:40 »
I went to target and bought 2 wire shelving units that were on sale and loaded them with the playmobil stuff piled up in the corner of my office.  Here's the result:

And I discovered a great feature of Heater's playmobil database - I can track everything buried on the shelf.  Here's the list of all the sets on the 2 shelves:
PlaymoDB List - Your Set List

So, now with this feature, I can track where various sets are stored, by just creating a text file with all the set numbers that I can input into the playmodb!!  Yea!!  Thank you Heather!!!

That is quite an interesting way of putting together a list that i was not aware of . The one thing that would make it much easier for me is if when you pull up a theme with pictures, there would be a button that would say add to list . Maybe next to Inventory . This would probable be a pain in the XXX to do but the easiest way for me to recognize what i have is by pictures .

Knight Train i was not expecting so many sets to be on those shelves . In the picture it looks like 2 or 3 dozen but there is close to 150 on the list  :)9
If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

Well, the second from top shelf on the right has 40 klicky boxes and 9 blister packs.
And the top shelf on the left is really packed with stuff.  That's where I started loading the
blue boxes.

But the plastic bins are not inventoried since they are filled with parts by theme - western, knights, train parts, castle parts, etc.  My next job is to go through the bins and sort the parts in a more logical way.  I'm not sure what more logical is, maybe klickys and wearables by theme in some bins and building stuff by theme in other bins.

This is truly an excellent feature on Playmodb and yet another reminder of how much gratitude we all owe to Heather for her faithful and unwavering nurturing of Playmodb.  The first time I used the list feature I was truly surprised at the sheer delight I felt at seeing my list spring to life in pictures and with the wealth of information that was instantly available.

Obviously I am not the expert on this, Rasputin, and Heather will be able to tell us for sure, but I think that this is not currently possible because the Playmodb list feature does not save your set list once you move away from that page to another part of Playmodb.  I have had the same need that you describe and I just kept my excel file of Playmo sets open in another window and then added the set number to it after locating it in Playmodb.

Thanks, folks; glad you find it useful!  One of these days - maybe when I win the lotto and retire  ::) - I'll get a lot more time to seriously upgrade the functionality to something approaching the Lego fans' Peeron, where you can log in and keep track of your own sets and therefore what parts you have, keep a wishlist or trade list on the site, etc. I keep talking about that, but I keep running up against the 168-hour-week limitation.  Meantimes, you can bookmark any list you make (and as many as you like), and if you edit the URL of the bookmark, you can change the list as you need to.  Personally, I keep my collection list elsewhere, paste it to the form and re-bookmark!

Hi Heather -

  that explains how we were able to click on Knight Train's link and actually see his list - I was wondering how that was possible.

Thanks for telling us about Peeron - in the past I had looked at some of the other LEGO sites to see how sets and parts are listed, but I had missed Peeron somehow.  Because Playmodb is already so rich in content, it's easy to imagine how it could evolve into a similar complex entity though that would obviously be a huge undertaking.  Keep buying those lotto tickets - maybe we should start a gambling fund for Playmodb!   8}

At the bottom of every page is the code to paste a link into a BBCode forum (like this one!). Set-pages and list-pages also include the HTML code for a link (must get around to adding it to part-pages too).  I actually have a new feature almost ready for the list-page, but can't promise when it'll be released, since I have a busy weekend ahead of me.  Nothing as useful as Rasputin's ideas, but hopefully will simplify matters slightly.
