3551 Fishing Boat from Argentina
« on: December 06, 2007, 15:54:59 »
Hi I have just bought a mint in box fishing boat on eBay from a chap in Argentina. Who does seem to get a lot of them to sell. However have noticed that the Hull is pre-painted and not a very pristine finish. Also the bottom section of the box is just plain carboard with carboard insert and there is no picture underneath.

Is this down to the fact that they were made under licence by Antex or I have bought a dud ?

Regards Craig

I was watching one of his auctions and was hesitant to put a bid in. He does seem to have  a few of them for sale now and then . Please do an update on the quality for this set . it is not often that this comes up MIB .
If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

I don't think it's a 'dud', as such - more that the type of plastic and Antex's level of quality control (if they have any! :P) is different to what we are accustomed to finding in the German and Malta-produced sets.

I've often read other people remarking that they think parts in Antex sets are of inferior quality, and a lot of collectors do avoid buying them because of this. I can't comment personally because I don't have any. I always felt the prices asked by the Argentinian eBay sellers was too high, especially given the evidence of so many disgruntled collectors. But then I would also have to factor in higher shipping charges than US buyers, so perhaps that makes a difference.

The Brazilian company Estrela also had a license to make Playmobil sets at one time. I've got some of those, and so far I have found them all comparable in quality to the German sets. :)

As far as I know only Antex gets a bad press. All the other (legal) licensed producers of Playmobil seem to be fine.

But that's what I heard through the grapevine  ;)

Did you bought it off eBay, because i saw one being sold on marktplaats!!
The hull was painted too, but the side of the box suggested that it should be painted with an marker?????
