Price on brass track?
« on: January 15, 2015, 21:20:09 »
Hi train collectors

I am once again looking at laying some track down. Looked locally and found a guy with 500ft. Sounds like he is looking for $5/ft. Or $2,500. Last time I bought was at a train show at $3 and that was a few years back.

So what is LGB brass track going for in your area?
What do you consider a bad, good, great deal?
How do you determin condition to price?

It sounds a bit high to me so I was thinking of offering 2k for his lot. 2 switches (electric) curves and straights. He said all was indoors and in good condition.
If you hear the sound of the bell which will tell you that Grigori has been killed, if it was your relations who have wrought my death, then no one in the family will remain alive. They will be killed by the Russian people. :prays:

1ft = 1 "small" track , the price for 1 "small" track is $5.99US on sale...maybe you can find cheaper.... so the $5US price for "used" track is too high...

For me more you buy, more the price per item should be lower...Let say $5/ft if you buy 1 ft, but if you buy 500ft, the price should drop to $3.50US or less...it also depends on the seller, does he want to sell 500ft in one time or does if want to sell 1ft by 1 ft to make more money?

German second hand dealers expect you to pay from 2,-€ (R1 track) and  3,-€ (straight track) up on eBay. Shops're selling straights for 3,-€ and R1 for 4,50€ + shipping.

You should consider...
...the more you buy the less you should pay per piece. If I popped into my favorite model railway shop asking for 500ft of track, I'd for sure not pay the full price.
...shipping costs can be quite high (even higher the more you purchased) - it might be cheaper in the end to buy at a higher price but near enough for taking it home personally.
...the more worn the cheaper it should be; used tracks from an outdoor layout often suffered breaks or lose fishplates.

...die Frachtkosten dazukommen; die können gerade bei großen Paketen sehr hoch sein; manchmal ist es günstiger, etwas mehr für's Gleis zu zahlen, wenn man es in der Nähe kauft und abholen kann;
...gebrauchte Gleise günstiger sein müssen; bei Schienen von Außenanlagen sind oft Schwellen gebrochen oder Verbinder lose.

Down here in San Diego they ask for 8 at the shops.

Last lime i saw an Add on craiglist the guy was selling a vintage playmobil buildings and a lot of tracks, he wanted 800 for all the of tracks, the lowered to 600. but doing the number it was around 4.5 the piece. But the condition of the track was pretty used, so my final offer was around 350, (around 3) took him a few weeks to took my offer, but the day i was suppose to go pick it up he told me someone pay the price he was asking for 600 at that time.

So, 5 is good price for a new track
And 3 used one!

I used to just use the ones playmo provided but then I could not run multiple trains. I bought one at a train show to make an event work. I will check the brand model number ASAP  ;)
