Stabiliser or jack for vehicles
« on: February 22, 2013, 20:28:13 »
Please can someone confirm whether this part 30 04 3740 - Jack, screw-type, for corner of truck is the same as 30 27 4470 - Stabilizer foot for mobile crane, screw post, at least in terms of size and shape. They certainly look to be from the same mold.
If you have one of the following sets (which all contain 30 04 3740) and a ruler to hand (or even better a micrometer?), perhaps you could post some measurements which I can compare with 30 27 4470 (which I have)?
3438 - Tow Truck
3453 - Large Blue/Yellow Tow Truck
4053 - Work Train
4053a - Work Train (Revised)
5720 - Police Tow Truck

Thanks
Graham
At that moment the ship suddenly stopped rocking and swaying, the engine pitch settled down to a gentle hum. 'Hey Ford.' said Zaphod, 'that sounds good. Have you worked out the controls on this boat?' 'No,' said Ford, 'I just stopped fiddling with them.' (With thanks to Douglas Adams)

I have just bought a 3438 and will do some measurements for you in the next few minutes.

Not very helpfuf answer possibly as the stabiliser legs are difficult to impossible to get out of the guides - the latter in my case.  Having said that, it is quite likely they are interchangeable as this would be typical of Playmobil.

Height = 56mm; top is circular with a flattened edge which coincides with a broad slot running down the leg.  The leg does not have a true thread, but a series of raised ridges.  Not being able to get the leg out, I counted the raised ridges as well as I could and it looks like there are 7.  The foot is 24mm by 23mm, and is not square in shape, being indented on two sides.

Hope this helps.

More information.

The width of the slot is approximately 5mm.  It's difficult measuring the circumference with my wife's tape measure, bit it's about 35mm.

Hope this helps.

Excellent and helpful information, Playmofire. All those measurements match the stabiliser 30 27 4470. Thanks for going to so much trouble! I can go ahead and buy a 30 04 3740 on ebay now. If I remember, when I get it I will post a message on here to confirm they are from the same mould (and let Heather at Playmodb know).

I received the part a few days ago and can confirm that the two parts are indeed from the same mold (mold number 3178590)

Thanks for the input, Gordon and Graham. This kind of information is really only obtainable hands-on, so it's great to have it to share.

Glad to help, Heather. (A bit off topic, but don't forget to let me know what you want me to do about the 3761 crane.)
