Paint
« on: August 25, 2012, 14:40:24 »
Hi

I am new to customising. I have toyed with some conversions for my Romani Circus (see gallery if you are interested, thank you). I now want to convert some Playmobil lorries to Romani colours. Can I use Halford car spray paint, with car paint primer? If so I can get the colours made up to the Romani colours. Here's hoping!

Thanks
GARY

Yes, you can.  This jeep and trailer custom was painted with Halford's paint and a car primer as a base.  I also used plastic primer first before the car primer.

Hello

Thank you for the reply. Love your jeep! Did you buy the plastic primer at Halford's too? I am a little nervous about painting but I am going to give it a try. Any tips greatly received...

Best wishes
Gary

Glad to be of help.

I think I may have bought the plastic primer at Motor World, but Halford's probably stock it too.

I have recently succumbed to painting Playmobil cars and have used the Halfords stock paint and Halfords plastic primer with success.

I recently asked the guys how easy it was to get non-stock paint colours mixed and they said it was easy, but they thought I would need the paint code rather than just telling them I wanted Ford Focus RS apple green for example.

The best advice I can give you (incase you haven't already done it) is take the truck apart into it's component parts as it makes it easier to paint. One thing to watch for though is that when you put it back together again it is very tight as you have added coats of paint to something that fitted together perfectly already.

Also, make sure you spray in a very well ventilated area as the paint, and especially the primer will go everywhere!!

Oh and one other thing....painting Playmobil is addictive!!

Is Halfords paint a UK brand. Will Krylon brand work aswell? I'm wanting to do some custom work but really don't have much PM stuff yet to work with. Som until I get some, I am working on what stuff I'll need etc.

Krylon is the brand I use. I use krylon fusion spray paint, and it works great and adheres well. I've also had great success with valspar.
