Forgot to mention I actually dropped her into the giraffe exhibit! Fortunately, the trench is set back away from the fence, so I was able to reach her before any giraffes decided to investigate! But I'm sure it was a little unsettling for her. :P

:o :o I'd FREAK.

I was grabbing poor Boomer Click so hard when he met the squirrel he's still complaining today! And I didn't even dare with the huge ducks!

It is absolutely lovely BB

I did just the same a couple of years ago and took Mr & Mrs Macclesfield - both purchased in the summer of 1990 with my Victorian mansion  - with me on various trips around the UK, so needless to say that they nearly fell off a cliff blown by the wind while I was trying to take a picture and in Chester Mrs Macclesfield even lost her blue hat in the river  :o

And as I can be quite determined and convincing when I want something, I very kindly asked a local fisherman to get it for me saying it had a sentimental value, which he failed to appreciate when he looked at the tiny blue plastic hat

Here is the little story about it which I put at the beginning of my thread on the town of Chester  ;)

Welcome to Chester ! ( 04/08/2010 )

"Near drama for socialite Mrs Macclesfield in Chester !"

Dear Friends, those of you who have read the London evening newspaper may already be aware of an incident to happened to me as I was visiting the beautiful city of Chester ! Mr Macclesfield and myself were posing for the now traditional picture when I was literally swept away by a gush of wind, fell on the pavement below and my trademark hat plunged beneath the waves of the River Dee ! Unphased by the drama and the agitation it created on the wharf, the always chivalresque and efficient Karim fetched a fisherman who was just mooring his wooden boat and asked for help in the shape of a paddle. My hat was lying on the sandy bed of the river at a depth of around 1 meter and this wonderful man succeded in retrieving my beloved hat !

You will all be delighted to know that we made it back home to Regent St safe and sound and John & I are now laughing at the incident over a glass of Sherry !

Your Friend Johan Macclesfield

The Man who saved the Hat and the Day  ;) !

Lord & Lady Macclesfield safe and sound  :)

Oh wow, I would have been so upset! Glad you were able to retrieve it, though I bet that fisherman did think you were crazy! Only a fellow collector would understand how important a small plastic hat can be.

In the end, we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. We will understand only what we are taught.
