Skypurr's Winter Displays Part 1
« on: December 18, 2011, 16:17:02 »
On Thursday I set up my winter displays for a local school.

We did eight seperate scenes in all set up on seperate tables for the children to walk around and look at. Some of the little ones were fascinated by the 'snow' I had sprinkled in places so if it looks a bit sparse it is because it has been moved

I tried to get as much done as I could at home, but as we were in the middle of having a new bathroom fitted, the lounge decorated and I was also baking cakes to sell at the produce market the next day, my time (and space) was limited.

Sandy and I arrived at the school as lunch was ending - because it is a small school and they only had the school hall where they eat their lunch where we could set it up so we couldn't get in any earlier.  This left us with only an hour to unpack and get everything in place.  This shouldn't have been a problem until we found that the box with the Arctic display in was still at home so Sandy had to leave me setting up on my own and drive the 8 miles home to get it  8}
Consequently some of the detail is missing - I rushed around just putting things where I could to get finished in time, leaving Sandy to sort out the Arctic on his return and we just about managed it.

I love Tim's idea of a Santa's Castle and would have liked to do more with that, but in the end time and the fact that I tripped over something at home and landed on what we had built, totally destroying it  :0 meant that we just had a tower!

Likewise with the steam boat.  Sandy suggested that a line of steck houses as a backdrop would have been good but it was then too late to do that - I'll set it up at home this week and do that I think  :)

Anyway, here's our hours work - there are quite a lot of photos so I'll perhaps put them in a couple of posts ...

Christmas for the animals...

Christmas in the Netherlands...

For this I put an explaination of what happens based on Gis' post last year - Thank you Gis  :thanks:

A visit to Santa...

Thank you Gaston for the idea...

We called this - The Real Meaning of Christmas...

There should have been two more camels but I'd taken them out of my circus box on our way out and they were still in the car!

Hope you like them so far, I'll post the other four displays in a new post.

Elaine

Edit: I forgot to mention that I've spent the last few months trying to get the snowman in the animals scene.  Our local toyshops didn't stock them and I kept missing out on them on ebay.  Finally got one and put it away but when I got it up to school found that he's lost his nose!  anyone got a spare?  ;D

Great work, Elaine!       I like the visit to Santa best, I think, partticularly with Santa sitting in his comfy wing chair.

My favorite too, Elaine!  Love all the trees and animals, especially the owl.   The children must have been so excited.  You are so good to share this with them.  :yup:
