Title: Are the hands on modern Klickies removable?
Post by: cardensb on December 04, 2011, 00:21:53
Before I damage an arm... I wonder if boiling in water will soften the plastic like with other action figures.

I believe some people have managed to get the hands out by heating them. But use extreme caution not to permanently warp the plastic.

I ended up wrapping up the hand in a padded mat similar to a mouse pad, locked onto it with some lockjaw pliers and applied brute force.

so did you successfully transplant a pair of hands? I was wondering whether those new Fi?ures might have looser hands, since they were made with different molds and maybe source of raw material...anybody tried yet? (I've no custom in mind requiring hand swopping to make me do this terrible thing yet ;D)

I pulled the hook off the Blackbeard figure and replaced it with another hand from a damaged figure.

I tried it once... heat the arm with a hairdrier, pulled one hand and inserted another, pushing the plastic end of the arm around the wrist to give it a better grip on the hand, but is was still quite loose... I mean i was spinning like crazy...

I may be wrong but I think the "hook-arms" are slightly shorter than the normal arms, aren't they?
BTW, I did some hand swapping using a flame to heat the wrist and a fork to pull the hand out of its socket. You sometimes break the wrist (if it's not hot enough when you pull), and you need to heat the other arm before pushing the hand in.

Pulled these three to give a comparison.
Yellow hand is from some robot looking figure I got in an auction. (not in the DB)
Hook is from the recent Blackbeard figure. 30 00 6400 http://www.playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30+00+6400
Third hand is from a recent King. (unknown part #) http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=k4663
Brute force was used to remove and re-insert hands into sockets.

And nothing was broken? That's great!

Did you set up some kind of clamp? What did you use to push it back in?

You mentioned locking pliers, didn't it leave teeth marks?

I used locking jar pliers and protected them with the corner of a pad similar to a mouse pad.  No clamps, vises, etc...
Left hand on pliers gripping a hand and right hand holding the figure then I pulled.
Putting it back in was harder but I just jammed it in the socket.

i'd like to try that - would need to use spare klickies for it though ;D

thanks for sharing the process!
