Title: 5141 Cannon officer of the Redcoats
Post by: Wolf Knight on August 31, 2011, 15:24:28
Not much to say here either... the uniform looks sooo good!!!

and of course... I am sue they look better in big numbers  ;D

Just one point... the torch can be bent like that... many accessories are becoming more and more like that. must be a safety precaution. It feels like bending rubber...

Interesting about the "rubber" (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/luwerner/gif/hmm-1.gif).
But the set looks great!

Great review! Actually, I think the rubber is better for kids so that they don't break their toys as easily  :). It's a big change, though.

That bending torch looks odd....

So, will YOU show some restraint? :)

but i'm afraid these rubbery parts will harden and become brittle after many years  :'(
still, thanks for sharing WK!  ;)

Interesting set.
I don't like the blue barrels, and I am not a fan of the new uniform. :hmm:
Nor do I like how they made the cross belts...
I prefer the "real" cross belts. :yup:

Still, I do like some things about the new red coats...
The hats for one are nice, period too I believe. :)

I can also see that this set could be pretty useful
for those whom are making an army out of these guys. :)9

Excellent review again Pano. I agree he lloks better when accompanied by other klickies and since I am short cannon for some of my ships, I'm planning getting 10 or so of these.

My one complaint, like WoT, is the crossbelts. It would have been nice to have the old style belts.

isn't there a new redcoat without painted straps?  (strapless)  I wonder what it woud look like with the real straps from the vintage redcoats added?  best of both worlds?

I bought this today. The printing's simply appaling. And there's way too many cannons in this theme: one here, another two in the fortress, two on the ship, one on the rowboat, one with the three pirates ... it's too much. It drives the price up.

I dont liek at all these new cannons with these stupid safety volleys, they look so silly and unrealistic , really put me off buying any of these ... thnak god i bought about 24 old pirate cannons from DS recently !!!!

Agree. They're quite ridiculous. Especially when they insist on depicting the darn things with the missiles.

Yeah, the cannons with the old system look much better! I've many of the new ones too, I'll use those on landbased fortifications and the other ones on the fleets. Perhaps I'll drill out the crosses in the gunbarrels of the new ones...

I like the uniform of the soldier, but I too prefer the version without the printed belts (soldier in 5139 fortress, and the DS-add on ones).
Btw, adding the crossbelts from the old redcoats to the new version without the printed belts, doesn't look too good IMHO; too much off the uniform gets hidden beneath the belts. Just a single white female  ;D shoulderbelt for a sword/sabre/rapier looks best on them, I think.

I gues it was changed for child safety reasons.

That and the little cannon balls tend to get lost. I can't remember ever having seen cannonballs belonging to my brother's ship.

Still, they could have done something better or at least include a pile of cannonballs thats one object. I never was one to actually shoot with such cannons anyways.

With lego I just used it to keep count of how many shots they could fire.
So in that regard its not that bad now, I keep the projectiles but wouldnt ever use them. And aside from this the cannon designs look quite nice.

I've gotten a few torches that are broken there (the flame).  Not to mention at the bottom of the torch.

I wonder if they changed this due to complaints?

I bought this set because I like the officer officially. But I started to play the cannon unexpectedly as I used to collect playmobil figures only but not play

Though the cannon looks unrealistic, it's still fun for the kidult like me :P Sometimes I use it to fool my hubby and puppy
