I was checking "Who's online" and I saw a guest using the spell checker....how is that possible if they can't post? :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:
-
Really? ??? That's very strange! I'd say maybe they were registering, but that's done through email now, so it can't be that. Weird. :hmm:
-
I have noticed the weird things in "Who's Online" before like using the spell checker and often printing pages.
I'm fairly sure it is caused by automated search engines checking the forum pages.
A "guest" definitely can't do anything like that, but I also have no idea how they generate the messages in the log.
-
that's weird and scary!!! :o
-
I logged out and tested to see... a guest does have access to the print button on topics, so the printing thing could possibly be real guests printing out topics. But the spell check I can't imagine. ???
-
Maybe it was not a real action. But it was what the who's on line list said. no idea...
or... if you log in and you are hidden... do you show as guest? :hmm:
-
I've never even printed a topic myself
Damo :)

Yep! The forum doesn't know you're a member unless you're logged in. ;) So it thinks you're a guest.
I've never printed a topic either.... not sure why anyone would! seems easier to bookmark it.

It is possible to print an entire thread to a file on one's own computer. This can be handy in situations where members of a discussion forum suspect that posts are being deleted at the whim of despotic admins - fortunately, this type of private archiving is not usually necessary here at PF! :P
-
I've previously saved certain 'innapropriate' material posted that I guessed would be removed from the forum (and was!) :P
At least I know how to do it the correct way, now ;)

I just saw a guest doing "nothing, or nothing you can see." What does this mean, I wonder? :hmm:

I've seen that too, and have no clue...

Strange things .............. :sherlock:

I thought I worked this out once but now I can't remember what it was. :eh?:
Could be a member in "invisible" mode doing something, perhaps.
-
Didnt we discover that it shows up that a hidden member is online, though? Btw, how do you go into hidden mode? Is it a setting you have to change?
-
Found this...

I do have a few modifications installed such as the custom pages which are accessed via the navigation menu... LINKS, PHOTOS, GUIDE. Probably the guest was on one of those pages which doesn't have a "Who" association.
To make yourself disappear from the "Who's Online" page and the list at the bottom of the index page is very easy. ;D
Go to PROFILE > ACCOUNT RELATED SETTINGS
Uncheck the box next to "Show others your online status?" and click the Change Profile button at the bottom.
Will we see a lot more guests online now, do you think? ;)
-
 probably.
But...i don't see that option on my account-related settings page. ??? Maybe mods can't be invisible? ???

That's weird. I didn't think there was any distinction between different types of members, but that must be the reason.
-
"Show others your online status?" I don't have that option either. so it could be that mods can't hide.
-
I don't see the option either. ???
-
Maybe only the admin can.

Maybe only the admin can.
lol
Maybe you're right. I may have chosen not to have that feature when creating the forum and didn't remember it because it was so long ago.
I tend to forget that the admin's account is not exactly the same as all the other ones. :-[

The option to hide your online status is usually available in every forum.. to everyone...
But actually, can't see it there. Odd.
-
Mods can't hide? :hmm: Can they run? ;D
Best,
A.

There are days when we want to!

That's because it's not currently enabled. :) The only reason I could see it is because the admin account overrides this setting.
