Well, I decided to start a new thread about the collection I got (continued from here: http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=5350.60 (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=5350.60)).
It's not really something the postman is bringing anymore since I already have it.
Therefore, this thread will recount what I find, what is being discovered, pictures of the items being put together, etc.

Today I opened the tub that contained a lot of rocks and trees and other flora and fauna.
I sorted the rocks by colour. Then realised they were kinda dirty, so as I type this they are in the dishwasher. I've never done this with Playmobil before but I've read about so many on here who have so I hope it all works out well ...

Here are pine trees. There's actually quite a few so it will make a nice forest.

This is a detail of the bird house. It is immaculately clean which shows how the stuff was taken care of originally BUT you can see where the birds that were affixed have been torn asunder. I suspect the lady who built this collection did not do this. Nor do I suspect whomever packed up the estate would have done this either...

The base for the Baron's Battle Tower (3665). You can see a figure still affixed to this. However someone has removed all his items, including his hair ...
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6135/5959409980_25735d6e6a.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5959409980/)
Now, what's all this?!
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6141/5959410260_906de2466e.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5959410260/)
Closer inspection shows that this was not scribbled upon by the collector. Note the scribble marks that go over the glue where a figure had been affixed and ripped off.

More things that have been ripped off:

Some special items that were found in there:

Well, pictures of rocks didn`t seem to elicite much excitement...
So, another day another tub for initial exploration.
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6134/5961513223_47e8b4f88a_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5961513223/)
This tub is a bit more organised with various Steck parts put in bags. As well as some of the accessories for the figures.
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6125/5961508915_2be82ae311_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5961508915/)

In one of the bags were these signs:
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6015/5961511087_fc5dc1d2da_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5961511087/)
So the 3444 Stadt-Wache is there!
As well as the 3445 Schuldturm (which I presumed was there because of the bell in another bag the other day).
The signs are bright and perfect. Like they were brand-new!
These figures are still attached to the stand for the joust. You might be able to see in the pictures the details painted on the horns (black for the holes where the horns would be hollow at the mouth piece).

The bases for the big barrels were in here so they are complete now.
I found another 3 castle defence pieces so that makes four in total.
Since this piece was only in the 3888 and the 3123, but there are no siege towers, does that mean that there are 4 of the 3888 sets present. ???
I guess I will have to correlate with the figures and banners to see. There certainly are enough of the rock dropping castle defence thingy (technical term), so it is quite probabe. Those coupled with the two 3666`s present would make a goodly sized castle alone!

Two farm wagons. I`ve always loved this type of wagon but I never had one before.
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6146/5961508629_739ec26bee_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5961508629/)
They are each different. One is from 1978 and the other from 1992 moulds. I wonder if Playmobil updated this wagon because something happened to the old mould or because they wanted to update it with more details. I will do a comparison of them because they are very different, despite initial similarity of appearance.

Furniture:

More castle pieces, although there is a piece for a pirate ship present.
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6015/5962064054_690fe8268a_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5962064054/)

I THINK wheels with metal were mostly replaced by plastic ones.
Great haul! You're making me jealous..

I was wondering if that was a cost cutting measure (metal to plastic). However, every single piece of the wagon has been redone.

Okay, I had some extra time with the kids swimming in our pool so I went through another of the tubs.
This one has a lot of roof pieces in it.
Before the roof pieces, however, this has some other stuff on top.
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6132/5962816781_a0c8c63599_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5962816781/)
Some roof pieces for the western set:
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6132/5962816783_80ea6c51a5_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5962816783/)
However, there is that little peaked roof piece that I do not know what it is from. Any ideas. ???
I`m pretty sure it is the Snake River Ranch building because the doors were originally blue but painted black.
Now a peak into the tub to see what is left:
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6006/5962816795_937e6b0515_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5962816795/)

Here are some round tower roofs that were in there:
Therefore, as two of them would be for the 3666`s does that mean that there are five 7175 round towers. ???
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6134/5962816789_f148958f91_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5962816789/)
There are a lot of roof gable ends ...
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6132/5962816803_de5dcfa141_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5962816803/)
There are 10 open sided double width roof sections.
2 of them would be for the two 3666`s and one would be for the 3716 farm. That leaves 7. What could they be for. ??? 7109 Medieval house or 7145 Medieval barn. So how many of each will there be...
:o
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6142/5962816805_8e3c58c363_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5962816805/)

The other shelf for the pottery rack was in the bottom of the tub so on it went:
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6030/5963433804_cbfa636dbb_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5963433804/)
Seven tubs for each of the Old Houses. I think the barn (3443) is part of this but I`m not sure yet. I will need to find another sold wall piece. However, there are parts I am not sure about.
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6124/5963433958_6f2e7a2771_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5963433958/)
There are a few extra of part 30 02 8410, "Framework wall, open, 3 units wide". So what are these for. ???
-
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6132/5962816783_80ea6c51a5_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5962816783/)

Think it could be from an outdoor feeder..
-
Yes that seems most likely
30 06 6730 - Feeder for animals, roof (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-06-6730)
There's always the possibility they picked up random used lots as well or even bought parts from DS, so not every building piece may match up with a standard set.
-
Starting a new thread is an excellent idea, Wesley.
That is a wonderful haul - you've been extremely fortunate in adding it to your collection.
I think people may be holding their breath to see how the dishwasher experiment went. Did you use a low temperature setting?
You've got a long job sorting everything out but please do keep us updated with photos, including a final one of everything assembled and set out, please.
If at the end you have any of the single sections of red tiled roof needing a home, I'd be interested in giving them one.
-

Yes that is it!!!
Thank you. The feeder is there and so are lots of deer and rabbits but no hunting stands or elk so it must be the 3692.

I have been thinking about setting it all out at once and have been wondeirng WHERE I could do this. LOL
The girls came up with idea of setting up outside but I don`t want to lose any pieces in the lawn. We don`t have enough dirt area to set up in (and I`m worried about losing anything in the dirt). We have enough sand but same thing... even though it is very very fine sand and packs like dirt. There`s room in the basement but e are suppose to be renovationg. slowly ...
I`ll be honest, I`m holding my breath too, but about what all is in the haul.

the painted taps on the big barrels are a very nice touch.

you mean, other than the ones that go to the pottery house, town hall, blacksmith, barn, inn, and the museum?
-

Yes.
So I am sure there is the barn (there is another gabled end with the small wooden door so that fits with the barn.
I am thinking there may be two inns. I am not sure though yet. Remember that extra sign. `Ratskeller` That must go somewhere.

Skypurr just got some through UK DS!

That's great news and I'm sending in a DS order on Monday so some will be on it.

Here is the first building we put together from the stuff. It is a 3444 Stadtwache (City Watch Building).
We tried to recreate the box art image. (Actually I had two of my daughters (5 and 6) recreate the scene using the picture as a reference - it's a good brain exercise.)
I took photos of the back of it as well so you can see it.
I really like this building as it is different from the other "Old Houses".
What I do not like about this building is the large upstairs, complete with stairs leading up and then you can do nothing as it is all enclosed ...
I was thinking of putting extra double roof pieces in the box so if we make it we can then make it with an opening in the roof so it is then usable, playable space.
(You could also use an open end, but that's not as good of an option, I don't think because the stone gable ends add character to this structure.)
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6144/5967269340_23b51865c2_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5967269340/)

Something unique about this set compared with the new medieval sets is when I told the girls they could play with it they immediately saw the potential for music - not just fighting. So they set up the guards to play their instruments. The dog even joined in by playing the lute.
I took this photo at the beginning of their play - but the crowd quickly swelled to many figures watching the performance (I also used a real camera to capture what they created, as opposed to just using my Ipod Touch).
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6125/5966709891_3fff049e8b_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5966709891/)

Yesterday I went through another bin. Forgive the aweful colour. It was raining and the lighting in the garage and no flash on the ipod and the "green" of the tub ....
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6148/5966714023_ac5ffb69c0_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5966714023/)
Just inside the top were these:
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6141/5967271668_108240d4b0_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5967271668/)
So if there are three of the "Castle wall with eyebrow window" pieces that, according to playmodb.org were only used on the 3556 Barn and it used two of these, is there another mixed up in the other castle wall pieces and are there two of the 3556's?
Could there have been another olde set that used these?
Are these used on the 7145 Medieval Barn that is conspicuously absent from Playmodb.org.
Surely someone has this set on here that can answer that AND help out Playmodb.org by supplying the necessary information that she needs.

After the top layer was removed:

Semi-survivor of the original display. Still glued to the walkway, but stripped of everything ...
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6023/5966714737_484009dee0_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5966714737/)
When there are two 3666's you can have one castle made up with one heraldry and use the other (swan) for the other, I guess.
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6025/5967271346_e91fb19b32_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5967271346/)
I wonder if the original display had two opposing castles, then? ???
It's been like pulling teeth to get information out of the people I bought this off of - it was willed to them and they have 4 kids and it looks like they let their kids rip through it and they must have really enjoyed swapping parts.
Some of the more recognisable parts in the tub:
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6011/5967271902_27b6479d1d_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5967271902/)

I was pretty excited about the eyebrow wall find, the Schuldturm balcony, another chimney (now I have two extra chimneys that I don't know what they go with - although I think I may have figured one out).
I did take pictures of the tub when I opened it but I don't know what happened to them. Anyway, it's the largest of the tubs and is packed to the brim with Steck tower pieces for the most part.
Here is the tops that were in there:
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6006/5966716333_16a13d0523_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5966716333/)
The front left one's bottom fell on floor and I found it after I took the picture.
So, twelve tower tops in there. One for the Baron's Battle Tower, two for the 3666's. That leaves nine. There are seven tops, take two away for the 3666's so that is 5 of the 7175 Round Towers? That leaves 4. That would account for 4 of the 3888's as I was speculating.
However, there should be 4 of the horse caparison's of the 3888 and there is only 1. Does anyone know if DS sold the wall sections (tower, wall, defences) from the 3888 by themselves without the figures?
This is how the steck is packed in that largest bin:
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6029/5966716077_f0f1d34f56_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5966716077/)
Banner holders still attached to the towers (and unbroken after their journey!):
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6021/5967273122_42ea6df733_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5967273122/)
Actually, nothing really seems to be broken from the journey. That just goes to show how durable Playmobil is.
Not every hinge is painted, most seem to be though (maybe 2/3?). It is well done and I think adds to the pieces.
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6015/5966715815_b37c62442e_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5966715815/)
Oh, anyone know what this is from: ???

The wonders of your buy continue, Wesley!
The painted hinges make a great difference; maybe with advanced moulding techniques they could be moulded in black if Steck made a comeback.
The last piece you show is part of a pirate set and has also reappeared in the recent beach set but with more pronounced detail on the decking.

That's what I was thinking. There is also the 'loading platform' from the pirate ships present. I wonder how these were used in the diorama that she made. The loading platform I could see being used with the winches on the towers. How this part could be used I don't know.
I have never seen any pictures of the original and the seller claims to not have had any. :-\

I have the plans but no part numbers are given for any parts. The parts and part numbers shown on playmoDB for 7145 Heather has extrapolated from sets using them.

Possibly as a small landing stage or jetty if the town/castle was near a river in the diorama.

That eyebrow window also appears in all of the various Pirate Prison Tower sets. You can see it in the back of the add-on version
7377 - Pirates Dungeon (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=7377)
It has a barred window that can be inserted in these sets. Should still be available from DS I would think if you want to fill in. Obviously if you find any of the inserts that tells you for certain where they came from.

Thanks guys!
The amount of knowledge on here is excellent!

I have the plans but no part numbers are given for any parts. The parts and part numbers shown on playmoDB for 7145 Heather has extrapolated from sets using them.
From the tiny little picture it looks like there are two of them used to make each barn on the outside wall?
Any chance of getting an email with a scan of them? ;D

No problem.

Sent them, Wesley.

Sent them, Wesley.
Thank you!
I see their instructions are getting minimal for some sets ... LOL
I will make 'Assembly Guides' like Martin did for the Old Houses (and this barn) when I get the parts in order.
I've only just taken an initial look through the bins. I have not started categorizing the pieces at all, really, yet. I got small bins for the old houses and am putting their pieces into them. I will do those first as that is what interests me the most right now.
I would like to add to them - by way of adding accessories. It's kind of silly to have a bakery without the baked goods. I like what they did with the new release of the bakery by adding stuff.
The Town Hall has just enough stuff for one floor - yet it has three. Same with the Inn. I have a bunch of old accessories I have gotten in lots in the past and I will add them in and order extras from DS.
-
Thank you!

Not getting, were. Those instructions are at least 14 years old.

That's a set that's been on the market a long time! That's great. That just goes to show how loved Steck is and medieval sets that are not just war oriented.
That's got to be a contender for the longest running production set!!!
-
Today I decided to organise and sort some of the pieces so I could put more stuff together.
Since it has been all pulled apart there is not way to really tell exactly which pieces are part of which set 100 percent. That is if they ever were.
So, I started to bag up like part pieces of good ol' Steck.
I got to the bottom of one tub and what do I find:
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6122/5973132086_0c4f27518a_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5973132086/)
Well the finding of another "Door for window in gable end" shows that there is a Blacksmith 3442 and a Barn 3443. There's the proper number of double wall pieces, no windows and other pieces to conclude that.
So, that means there are ALL the old Steck structures present, 3440 to 3450 and 3455.
Now look at the picture ...
What kind of condition is that part in?! :o :'(
-
So, I looked in the bottom of the tub. Very carefully. Just in case.
And what did I find:
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6148/5973131592_06ab4bea1e_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5973131592/)
So, out comes the ABS glue. Pieces are matched up.
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6136/5972573087_0c41292369_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5972573087/)
A drop of glue on each surface and voila!
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6127/5972572863_0c5da6ed3d_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5972572863/)
This glue welds the pieces together. You have to be careful or you can glue yourself to the plastic.
-
Here is another eyebrow window.
So, is there 2 of the medieval barns with house or are there 1 of those and two of the pirate dungeons? Or 4 pirate dungeons ...
I'm suspecting two of the medieval house with barns due to the number of roof pieces and gable ends.
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6025/5972573727_a14fc44e62_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5972573727/)
Five of these female end pieces. More evidence of the 3888's.
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6149/5972574219_22a1e257f1_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5972574219/)
Here is the difference between the newer and older Steck pieces:
(note the hinges being moulded right to the older pieces while the newer ones have separate pieces that pop in - if the hinge broke on the old one, that door piece is "toast", this way, with the newer one, you just replace the black hinge piece and you're good to go!
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6022/5973133170_3353ba980d_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5973133170/)
On the tabs you will see the newer ones have an extra 'bump' to help them hold together better (the old ones do fall apart much too easy - which is why some of these sets were glued):
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6140/5973131356_1b06eb1020_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5973131356/)
Note the height difference between the old (can I use "first version" and "second version" Steck?) and newer Steck gates:
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6020/5972574867_a12c74bb22_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5972574867/)
Here they are from the back. Forgive the poor photo - Ipod again and it was getting dark out tonight when I did this.

Any ideas?

The open framework in the last picture suggests Western to me.
The missing corners suggest mice have been present!
-
wow! so much new stuff... I missed a lot yesterday... ok from the last pic, as I have not read all yet... that is a section of the 3443 farm house... it seems, Wesley, that you have more than one or two of each house! its quite hard to find so old instructions. I'll try to reasemble the houses and take some pics...
So if there are three of the "Castle wall with eyebrow window" pieces ...
which part are you refering to exactly? --- oh ok I read it now.. yeah Tim is correct. But if you have not found the black prison bars piece, which is the size of a plain castle wall, then yes these are from the barn and house set.
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6011/5967271902_27b6479d1d_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5967271902/)
that yellow and blue gate is from: 3030 - Adventure - Knights* (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3030) so that one can be there as well.
As for the chimneys, there are only three houses using chimneys 3441 bakery, 3448 medieval inn, and 3455 pottery house... so again maybe there is more than one or two of each. And your reasoning about the round towers is probable.
---edit---
keep your eye on this thread Wesley, I hope it prooves useful

Yes, it does look very Western, doesn't it. The side rails look like hitching rails.
However, it is this part:
[url]http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-02-8410/url]
and, apparently, was only used on the 'Old Houses' (Medieval houses).
Missing corners? ???

I rememebr paying a lot to get about 10 x 30 02 8410 . Very useful frames when buidling steck houses and add to the realism of a steck vity a lot . i use them in all the twin level steck houses , very good solid frame one cat attach signs and hooks on to hang a ladder etc etc
dont you just love steck ...???

I was going to say we can get that piece now with the release of the new bakery but NO! That part has not been remade!!! I wonder why. ???
Yes, I do love Steck.
I do like the look of the Knights Empire Castle (3268) - but the walls are shorter than Steck (so it`s even more out of scale!), it has very limited expansion possibilities, it does not look as realistic, it is expensive, etc, etc, etc.
I even bought a lot of extra wall pieces for one off ebay a couple years ago so I could expand one I would get but I have thought about it and I don`t think I would get one now. It just pales in comparison. It would be like getting a Lada after having a 1969 Daytona Charger ...
-
It would be like getting a Lada after having a 1969 Daytona Charger ...
And very good reference this is Sire. Steck is at a different level all together, i doubt i will be putting together the lion castle for my mediaval set up, just not good compared to steck !!!
-
Okay, I haven't added to this in a while. Sorry. Sometimes life seems to get in the way ...
Anyway, put together the Snake River Ranch (3805). You will note the blue doors/windows (whatever they are supposed to be at that odd height (I know they are for access to the animals and are at animal head height, but they just don't look right)) have been painted black. As well as some detail trim. It looks good that way. I guess it was to make it fit in more and look more medieval.
I don't know, though. I may just have it for my western stuff. It does look good - but like all first version Steck, it is hard to keep it together. System X does work better than this.
However, 2nd generation Steck castle pieces hold together better.
Now I just have to put the other wall hook pieces with it.
-
Wow, there are so many excellent sets in this collection ! The Snake River Ranch looks like a lot of fun!
Ace :brownhair:

That is one amazing lot you pick up for your collection. :o

Thanks. It's got lots of really cool sets in it. I just need the time to go through it.

Okay, I haven't posted anything in a while (because I haven't been doing anything with it for a while). Now I am done my papers I had a little bit of time today so I sorted out the pieces for and put together the two 7145's (Medieval House with Barn).
They are made up of more parts than I was initially thinking and had to be put in a larger container than I thought I would use:
Since there are two I assembled them slightly differently. I know I could put them together ala the olde 3556 but this is how I chose for now.
These are $60 through DS: and that includes not one accessory or figure. It seems like a lot to me, to be honest. I would hate to see what the prices would be for Steck at the local toy store with Playmobil's profit margins ...
-
Okay, I've been compiling extra parts that I'm not sure what they go with. I've still got this lot and I'm leaning more towards an extra Blacksmith's because of the pieces but there is not an extra set of blacksmith signs, nor does it have all the right pieces for that (ie gable end) but it does have a chimney and flat dormer window and the olde medieval open wall section plus a solid half timber wall section.
Well, I am taking pieces in and out of this extra lot as I arrange sets and I have not sorted everything yet into similar types of stuff so I guess whatever is left over at the end of it all ... ???

Looks like most of a 3443 - Barn (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3443) to me.
-
Looks like most of a 3443 - Barn (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3443) to me.
That's what I was thinking at first. However, there is a spare chimney and a stone wall piece glued with it.
It doesn't match any of the olde houses.
Perhaps it was a custom combination?
-
Today I took some time to go through some of the stuff and try to sort out some of the figures.
I only took a couple pictures as I was more interested in sorting.
Here are the Templar (4534) and Teutonic (4625) specials:
Here is 4547 'Blue Prince'. Note how the cape edging is painted. It looks pretty good.

that painted edge makes it look so good!!

so this used to belong to a collector who......passed on? Even if still alive, seeing the glue marks where they had glued their clickies in place.....literally, like footprints, traces, of the previous owner who is no longer.
Kinda makes me sad.
but at the same time happy, because their collection lives on, and is handled with care by a new owner who can appreciate it.

She has died. She bequeathed the Playmobil to a guy who had worked for her. He has three girls, apparently. They did not have room to set it all up so they decided to sell.
Yes, it makes me sad too. Especially when I see how the kids mixed it all up. But. I guess all kids do that and that is play and that is how kids have fun, so we should be happy for that.
It's got a good home and I'm trying to sort it all. I don't have room to display it all either. But who among us does?
-
Going through some stuff tonight and realised I still had a pile of half-timbered gable ends. So, I thought I would try to figure out what they were all for. Two are for the two 3666's so that took care of two, but I was still left with ten extras. Well, putting some walls and roof pieces together it looks like there are five 7109's.
Those placed with all the "olde houses" plus my six yellow, red and blue houses should make a pretty nice medieval village!
Now all I have to do is try to figure out how I will furnish them ... ::)

The tailor was extra nice to his wife today. He was feeling sorry she was bending over so low to do the washing and dying of the material so be brought her two stands for the wash basins.
(I had an extra one of these from an old lot I bought a few years ago but had no idea what it was for, so an extra was basin and stand to help flesh out the tailor's shop).
The blacksmith's shop is getting extra's too. I also want to order all the baked goods for my bakery (too bad they didn't have all those back when the Bakery was first made - they really add to it). Not to mention a nice fireplace to bake the stuff in ...

I always wondered abou this, all we had was that furniture but no furnace like the smithies shop .... shame really as the bakery is such a classic steck shop. i cant wait to buy 2-3 of them when it arrives in Greece     ( or 4 , they are the best for making shops ...)

I was thinking of the large oven from 4251.

It's been a while since I've attahced any pictures. It's been a while since I've done a lot with it, either. A bit of sorting here and there - but not a lot. Busy with other things at the end of summer and autumn.
However, what time I have been spending has been trying to sort and compile the sets. It's taking a lot of work. More than I thought it would. I just wish I had more time ... :)
Here are some of the St. Christopher knights:
This shows that the lady was still buying stuff fairly recently. It also shows, based upon the sets, that she liked Steck and the figures from the 90's and the sets from the 70's. So, like a lot of other medieval collectors and enthusiasts on here she was on the same page.
A few of the new knights were obviously good enough to add to the glory days of medieval sets but not the System X lineage.
I like the details she painted on with the facial hair. The brush strokes show a shakey hand - but that happens with old age and adds character and charm to them. Note the blue paint detailing as well as the silver paint. The blades of the swords have also been painted so they are silver instead of gold.
I have four others of these, by the way. I decided not to retake the photos as I would surely want to add more to the next or change them and then not post any pictures ...
-
Some Black Knights.
Note the painted details of the crests to add variety. She had the shields in a different manner than I usually do. These are the figures holding the top of the handle so they hang lower. I can tell they were this way by the tiny bit of glue residue left on that part of the shield. It works. You can't hold them this way dismounted, but you can mounted.
I need to go through the zip lock bag of helmets and find the rest of the visors. (I've been trying to put different parts in bags and then from there to put some sets together.)
It looks pink in this photo, but note the blood painted on the axes. I can hardly picture a little old lady sitting there painting blood on battle axes. LOL There is also a stump - the one with the axe groove in it - that's painted with red for blood and it must have been with the executioner.
The silver detailing is on all the caprisons and it does add to them. Note also the silver on the rivets on the shields.
-
There are some small oak trees. This set is present:
Have to take a picture of it (actually, I have to combine all the parts into one bag ...).
Anyway, according to Playmodb.org that tree was not used in many sets (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-08-8400 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-08-8400). However, I have a few of them. So how did they come to be here? Was it something they sold through DS? Or was it something that she special ordered from DS or ?
Sadly, these questions will never be answered in this life, I think.
The trees are quite nice, actually. (Wish the branches stayed in better - they're good, mind you, just wish they were in there stronger, but the beauty of Playmobil is that it come apart along the stressed areas where other toys break!). Actually, the branches stay in just as good as other trees, so disregard what I was saying, it's a moot point unless you're playing pretty hard with them. Guess I'm thinking of them in the Superset Fairy Garden - this is the part that always come off first ...
I figured a few forest dwellers would add to the image.
I thought this painting was a very nice detail! Even with the beauty of the colour moulded parts of brown for the branch and green for the leaves this just adds to it.
-
Well, the lady had good ideas to add to stuff with a brush, that's for sure!
-
thats the way my knights hold their shield too. they can stand up like that, if you tilt their arm a bit forward!
-
This memorial collection keeps amazing me! 8-)
-
I've taken some pictures of some more of the sets. I will start with the one I referenced previously - the 3824 'Shepard and Sheep'.
I really like this figure. It can be used for almost any period.
The sheep have all been detailed - you will note their eyes and nostrils have been painted.
An interesting fact about this figure is it was released almost identically as a Special (4615) four or so years after it was originally discontinued in 1999.
There are also a lot of other sheep present:
They have all be detailed. Yes, the grey one has been painted to that colour.
-
Here are some of the individual figure sets I have been able to sort out, so far:
First up being the 3633 Highwayman or Robber (the latter being a much better translation) from 1994.
Next is the Knight. It is interesting to note these were produced at the same time as the Specials came out but stayed in production longer, had bigger boxes and cost more - yet had, essentially, the same amount of items ...
Note the silver piping painted on the cape. The cuff is not stock but it sure makes the armoured hand look better.
Whom is it, at Playmobil, who keeps putting the knights as being left handed when they are clearly designed as right handed (by the sword belt placement and the shape and design of the shields (ie as on the Fi?ures 'Blue Knight' pictured on all the artwork))?!
Next is Sir Polkadot from 1999. According to Collectobil the German name is Ritter Artus which translates to Knight Arthur (or Arthurian Knight) or it could be said as Sir Arthur or better, yet, Sir Artus. (Who the heck came up with, Sir "Polkadot"?! :hmm:)
Yes, the feather is painted and is a different colour than the one pictured on the box. However, this one is the one it came with and it looks good so I presume she swapped it out and painted it as it is glued into the helmet (or maybe it came with a different colour).
Note the boots are purple and the box art shoes blue. Playmodb also shows purple so it must have been a colour issue on the box art. ???
-
Now for a set I've always liked and appreciated but never had. The Rus bear trainers. Okay, maybe they're not Rus, they could Ukrainian (going by the pattern on the shirts and the hats) but they are pretty close geographically and culturally.
This set is from 1994 and was discontinued in 1996. There was some whining from certain segments of the population that this was a cruel depiction of animal brutality and should not be a toy. However, it is historically accurate. Not to mention that just because they have a trained bear, it does not mean it was trained cruelly. I've not seen much complaining about those who train horses, but most don't have a clue on how to do it right and their training is pretty cruel.
Anyway, it is a toy for children and bears are big fuzzy animals to children (look at their teddy bears) and are their companions, not something to be dominated and exploited.
It is an excellent example of the glory days of Playmobil's medieval sets that did not focus on mere warfare and battle knights with accessories that fire something, but is a cross-over for both boys and girls to enjoy the theme and inspire imagination and creative play.
You may note the flute has been painted. I need to locate where I put the handle for the chain. I know I had it somewhere ... Also there are two extra bears in the collection so I thought this would be a natural place to include them.
It is really an updated version of this set (3567) from 1981:
Note, those people never whined about Grizzly Adams ...

how did the parts fair after the dishwasher treatment?
also, i thought of an idea how to remove the crayon/marker markings from the playmobil: magic eraser. (but be careful not to rub too much, then it'll begin to mar the plastic)

The parts come out perfectly clean! Just like new out of the box.
Our water temp is set pretty hot and that did not affect the pieces at all.
I have no qualms at all now to wash Playmobil in the dishwasher. I've read of others on here doing it (that's why I tried it) and it works perfectly.
