Title: 5203 and 5204 are at my local toy store!!!!!
Post by: playmogal on July 19, 2011, 17:59:39
Just drove home with 38 of the new surprise figures! They arrived at the Science Safari in Cary, NC, yesterday...1 box each of 72 of 5203 boys and 5204 girls. I was tempted to buy all of them but decided to give others the chance to collect a few.

Spent about 15 minutes in the store trying to ID the boys figures and could only figure out the (6) chef (large baking tray) and the athlete (10) large trophy. Was looking for a guitar player (7), but his guitar is two pieces, so I could not feel it properly! The cool thing is that the first package I opened (while stopped at a red light o\driving home!) was the guitar player! Pretty good odds at that point since I got what I was after. He is pretty darn cool!

Really excited about these figures because I just placed a huge Clickie order (3 pages of Excel spreadsheet) with PM US, and they probably will not have many of the figures in stock as usual.

Check your local toystore each day as orders are arriving earlier than expected. The great news is that they were only 2.99USD, which is cheaper than I expected.

My photos begin with the 11 women, all but the last one, no. 12.

Good luck finding the little folks, Pgal ;D ;D ;D

Wow, I'm hoping to find them here soon. So far the stores have no idea when they'll arrive (if they know what it is that I'm asking about).

I, too, was quite shocked to see them on the shelf today. However, I recovered very quickly and grabbed them before someone who knew what they are walked in!

The second set of females is shown below. The new hair colors are wonderful additions to the limited choices for women and men as are the glasses and some of the hats.

Have not had time to mix and match any of the parts. I do have the set of 12 plain Clickies sold by PM as an add on, but am not sure that any of those parts will fit the new collectibles except for hair and hats. Does anyone know if we can mix the new ones with the older ones, and if so, which older ones?

Enjoy, Pgal

Three of the final four female collectible figures are pictured below. I picked up 24 of the females and managed to get all but number 12, a real beauty.

Did not have time to finger the female bags, so will try for one of her tomorrow when things slow down a bit.
Cheers, Pgal ;D

I was unable to find the guitar player in the male box of collectibles, but had no luck because the guitar comes in two parts. But I did identify the baker and athlete with a trophy. I purchased 14 male figures and ended up with 9 of the 12 possible men.

The first four are shown below.

Today was the first time we had built a complete figure; before we had just taken off heads and hair. It was interesting seeing what was inside them for a change.

The only problems we had building them was that the hair was difficult to attach to the heads on 4 figures, and is still not mounted properly on the guitar player. Not sure why it is so difficult, but few chiidren would be able to build all of these figures. Also it is helpful if you have a small pair of pointed tweezers to mount the tiny rhinestones on a couple of the female figures.

Enjoy the guys below, Pgal ;D

The final photos of the first batch of collectibles purchased today are shown below. They are my favorite figure, the guitar player. Everything about him is so cool! (Hubby's favorite is the grim reaper; he built the male figures tonight while I put together the females.)

Good luck and be patient finding the ones you want, Pgal

I'm gonna need the part number of those gloves (the winter woman - IMG_2860.jpg).. Tried to order some (from the frozen dinos sets) and came as not available...  But they should be available now, no?

And I LOVE the skull shirt of the guitar player :)

Thanks Tahra!

A couple of thoughts after seeing the new collectible figures.

It may be easiest to name them by their number on the insert in each bag. Thus the winter walker lady would be 5204-5 because she is the fifth lady. That way we don't have everyone calling them what they think they are, which really would be confusing. I tried coming up with some names last night, and these changed as I built the figures and learned more about them.

I compared 5204-5 to the similar figure in 4891, the Christmas Market purchased at the FL FunPark, and they are the same figure except for the accessories.  The 4891 lady has an aqua scarf/neck warmer, cuffs and hands and is wearing white boots. 5204-5 (which I named the winter walker) has light blue around her neck and gloves, two walking sticks, white athletic shoes, and light blue sunglasses. Both gals have the long dark red hair gathered in the back and the same face with rosy checks, black eyebrows and lashes pointing down.

Both women are quite fashionable for PM! Unfortunately there are no part numbers for the 5204 gal. For the 4891 lady, the part number is 30 14 4630, and the only other part number on the pamphlet is 30 21 3372 for her aqua cuffs. No part number for the aqua scarf.

Hope the photo below of the 4891 and 5204-5 ladies helps with the comparison.
Cheers, Pgal

If you want the entire collectible set of women or men, check out this listing on eBay. The price is quite low with free shipping to the US.

http://cgi.ebay.com/PLAYMOBIL-BRAND-NEW-2011-FIGURES-GIRLS-FULL-SET-/320728721443?pt=UK_Toys_Creative_Educational_RL&hash=item4aacebe823#ht_731wt_702

The same seller offers the full set of males (5203) also for 40USD! This appears to be a great deal; she must be a toy dealer to offer such a low price.

Happy shopping, Pgal

I wouldn't mind a couple of them, but what I need more of is the gloves, for my Scott guys. White would be better, but I guess beggars can't be choosers ;)

Maybe I should start hunting those full boxes on ebay.... But I'm dangerous there :(

OK...we have a request for KNIGHTS of all people. Let's see if we can find a knight in the four remaining Collectibles I just picked up at our local toystore.

I think that a blind person would be much better at this than we are because their sense of touch is so much more accurate than most of ours. It was a stroke of luck that I came home with the four missing figures this time.

Four remaining figures are shown below....can someone PLEASE find a knight in these? Pgal

Yup, I have four each of three of the female figures, the witch (8), the cavewoman (10) and pink princess (12.)

I picked up 38 bags yesterday and 11 more this morning. Did not know how many it would take to get a full set of 24 figures.

I now KNOW FOR SURE that a blind person would be much better at figuring out which baggie is which figure than most of us...our sense of touch is not as well developed as theirs is.

The hardest part was standing on one leg the whole time I was fingering the bags in the store. An hour earlier I had a steroid shot in my knee and could not use that leg. Ouch!

You are totally correct in adoring the tattoos....they are works of art. Don't know what got into the designers' minds, but they are incredible arms and figures. (And I don't care for tattoos on humans!)

That is why the guitar player and singer are my favorite couple.

Enjoy the photos below, Pgal

More "Blue Knight" photos...

Sorry that I know nothing about knights...totally clueless on that topic. I can lecture all day on most subjects (having been a marketing professor for 20 years), but my mind is totally blank when it comes to knights except for the giant knight we saw in the Tower of London 10 years ago.

So you will have to add the info and totally amazing details about who this figure is and his lineage. BTW I don't care for his black belt, which is good because I didn't know it had to be put on before he went together. And the sticker on the shield thingy should be more color coordinated with his red and blue clothes IMHO. The insignia thingy on the shield thingy sticker looks like a Rorshach inkblot test to me. Is it supposed to mean something? I prefer the flowery pattern (by Arnaud was it?)

The instructions are generic, so good luck to those building their first Clickie. It felt as if I was trying to catch an exploding jet plane falling out of the sky in several thousand pieces when it came to putting on the two arms and sliding the torso down onto the base insides.  Guess you need more than two hands to build one of these figures, especially the ones that have more than 3 things to balance while pushing them together!

Enjoy, Pgal

Remaining KNIGHT photos from this morning's Collectible finds:

The Green/Black knight costume is much easier on the eyes and more color coordinated. His shield thingy has some kind of animal on it, but I am not saying what it is because of the debates over the dinosaurs and dragon lookalikes. It is a pretty cool design and came on the shield thingy, not as a sticker.

His silver boots, green rib thingy and green ball thingy on the top of his helmet thingy are also pretty cute. His best feature however are his hazel (like Hubby's) asian eyes!!!

And for some reason he appears to be wearing red lipstick...uhhhh... do knights traditionally wear lipstick? And he has a nice case of stubble, which I would expect of a knight. But I don't kiss guys with stubble....ever...because it hurts my lips. So don't even think of his trying that move on one of my adorable maidens or whomever a knight tries to date. Someone may have to erase his stubble first because the eyes definitely are worth saving.

The black belt thingy matches his outfit, and I knew to put it on first when somehow smashing him together into one piece. His black belt thingy has a hook for holding something, so I put his sword thingy in there because it looks funny attaching his crossbow thingy to his belt. And also made it too easy to shoot himself in the foot, which could limit his years as a menacing member of society...somewhere.

One problem with the sword thingy mounted in the belt thingy....it pierces his boot if he moves. So this guy will have to be a statue somewhere...I recommend my favorite medieval place in France...the Palace of Popes in Avignon. It is a totally empty building if you visit on a cold, very rainy day in November and could use some knights or whatever.

Recommended music for fantasizing with these knight guys: the soundtrack from Halo (all parts) by Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori. Especially track 17: The Maw.
Trevor Morris' score to all four seasons of the Tudors also blends well with this theme.

Enjoy, Pgal
The black wing things (did I say he is skillfully color coordinated) are an interesting touch. Does this mean that he can fly, or are the wings just for puffing up his size to scare off those nasty, larger predators with names that begin with a "d?"

Bogro

But still, they shouldve put in more generic parts. It would have helped with the customising. Less printing, less idiotic designs and so on. It couldve been a bit of a throwback to the old klickies of the 1970s. But if one klicky's torso is printed in the style of an american football jersey, how can you pair that with a knight's legs?

Still, most people seem to be happy about them, so ...

Sometimes I think the Jam got it right with the lyrics of Going Underground, you know.

I agree. It would be neat to have some generic parts...especially solid color tops with bare arms, short sleeves and 3/4 sleeves in all skin colors. And the same with bottoms with bikini, short, skirt and capri (3/4) length legs in all colors.
And some heads in all colors with different color eyes and lips would be cool.
The new hair styles and colors are wonderful because they easily can be used in other figures. And the clogs on two of the collectibles are also quite useful for customs.

While there is nothing wrong with building these as designed, it would also be a lot of fun to mix and match solid colored parts like those above.

Cheers, Pgal

True. I think they should have stuck with one or two "themes". Most of those figures would be great SPECIALS, cause that's what they ARE.

Still, I'm looking forward to them...

But yes I agree and Ive said it before that they should have stuck to one or two themes for the first wave. Cause if this flops, I don't see it going on for nine or ten waves.

Nah, the men too. Actually the women are more "mixable".. I think. Now the men... WONDERFUL special specials: Zorro, Rocky, American Footballer, crippled mummy, Uncle Sam... They'd be GREAT specials (specials aren't special at all anymore, there are so many of the same, and current themes, kinda misses the point completely, IMO). Ah, and let's not forget the executioner.. oh, wait, he IS a special!

But yes I agree and Ive said it before that they should have stuck to one or two themes for the first wave. Cause if this flops, I don't see it going on for nine or ten waves.

I didnt like Zorro that much. I used to see a Zorro custom on ebay that looked fantastic, but this one's a bit poor I think. :P

Is it easy to dismantle them? There were reports, when these first appeared, that they would self-dismantle of their own accord. The same way a human being might spontaneously combust, I guess.

This must happen when you have to wait too long (after something cool has been announced) to open the boxes/bags! Lots of speculation about these critters, hasn't there been! Quite entertaining, too.

I was a bit surprised about some of the figure's characters.
1. Did not know there had been an axman before...Special 4542 is red and blue. I think that the collectible 5302-12 axman in red and black is better looking, not that I have any need for an axman except to say that my collection of collectible 1 figures is complete.
2. As to the football player (2), it may be because most guys in the US have been into football, baseball or basketball, and not soccer, which has so many PM figures. Seems they need to do a competitive swimmer ala Phelps, tennis players ala Federer or Nadal or Dkjokivic, and a rugby player like _________.
Racking my mind to suggest a prof cyclist, but they all seem to have been drugged (in some form or another) when they won, so we may want to skip that sport. Shaun White would be a wonderful skateboard model with his wild red hair. Surprised they have not done a German/US basketballer like NBA champ Dirk Nowitski.
3. The Uncle Sam (8) through me for a loop as well. Would folks outside of the US be interested in him?
4. I would have liked more ladies like the tattooed singer (4) and the boombox chick (7). These modern gals are terrific IMHO.
While the fairy, princess, queens and other royalty type figures are beautiful, don't we have enough of these in the regular sets and specials? Wouldn't young girls enjoy (insert young female singer here) /Scotty McCreery type singers as well?
How about a modern orchestra with modern people playing all of the instruments?
Or a modern female chef or ballet or modern dancer or golfer?
Or a solar panel installer or plumber or electrician or architect like Maya Lin?
Or several yoga enthusiasts?
Or ballroom dancers?
Or Asian sidewalk calligraphers who paint with water in the parks?
Or backpackers hiking a canyon, etc.?
Or female scientists/lab workers/computer programers?
Or grandmas at water aerobics, spining or Zumba classes?
Or pregnant women who are lawyers or teachers,...?
Or women who train dogs
Or a modern female painter or photographer like Annie Liebowitz?
Or an au pair/nanny watching a baby?
Or a woman playing bridge at a card table?
Or an African woman weaving a basket from grasses?

5. Modern males including:
A husband/yardman with weedwhacker and sprayer can,...?
Or a jazz piano player totally different from the wedding piano player?
Or an Asian mah jong player or Chinese checkers player?
Or a Mexican washing pots in a restaurant sink or teaching windsurfing?
Or a metal smith making parts for something cool like a custom statue or a glassmaker like Dale Chihuly making one of his outstanding glass sculptures or a potter making a modern pot?
Or an Asian farmer with his basket of rice?
Or a more modern painter/sculptor like Pollack or Warhol?
Or an internet/iPhone app writer at a laptop?
Or a commercial fisherman in his cold weather gear with lobster pot, etc.?

These are just some ideas for more modern figures. Cheers, Pgal

There have been MANY cyclists, there were tennis players, golf players, skateboarders, ice hockey players... Basketball players only for fun, me thinks.

3. The Uncle Sam (8) through me for a loop as well. Would folks outside of the US be interested in him?
Well, ONE of them, yes. But it's an unappropriate figure to put on a blind bag. Those should be useful ones in numbers, and mixable. That's why I think it makes very little sense, though most would be perfect specials.

Tahra,
Thanks for sharing your knowledge about the specials already offered. I read through the first 10,0000 listings of PM on eBay last night to get a feel for what had been made before we decided to begin collecting about 7 months ago.  I learned a lot from the first 55 or so of 95 pages. The price went down to about 4USD around the time the 10,000th item appeared.

EBay then stopped showing the listings saying one could only see 10,000 listings under one search heading. That surprised me because I have used eBay for over 10 years and never had that message pop up and a search end. So the next go round I will do the other half starting at the lowest price.

What I seemed to notice is that there is a ton of vintage Lego for sale out there, and not just the Victorian style. Many of the 10 to 20 year old sets use older styles of figures and accessories. Many collectors prefer these styles, especially the medieval fighting sets. We prefer the newer styles, such as the rock star and guitar player figures, and thus usually go for the more modern people and sets with settings from all over the world.

So for our collection it would be cool to find more solid color parts that have different color skin and arm and leg covering choices with more choices as to modern accessories. It would have been easier if PM had made these new figures as Specials so we would know what we are getting because most of us care for less than all of them.

And several folks have mentioned how great it would be if PM introduced plainer figure parts for making customs. It has been a major pain trying to collect solid color L torsos for normal looking adults as well, and I have thousands of those figures. Sometimes I have to turn a printed torso backwards to get a solid one, but this does not work for most PM figures.

So maybe PM could lead the way and give us plain torsos in 50 different colors so we could make them whatever we want. They seem to have enough head, arm and leg colors and faces to offer plenty of ethnic options, which is a wonderful way to customize. It looks like you have a real city of people once you get enough choices as to hair and plain torso colors, and sleeve and pants leg length.

A good starting place is the Grande Mansion 5302 figures in several skin colors, especially the bath lady wearing the towel over her bikini. The new hair styles and rarer hair colors in the collectibles is also a big step in this direction. If we could buy these new parts individually or in a kit composed of 50 different male hair parts (or 50 female hair parts,) that would be a quick and easy way to customize. Same thing with legs and arms, a set of 50 different solid color arms with choices of bare, short, half, 3/4 or full color sleeves in different skin colors and torso colors. The bare arms are especially important for making female figures because they usually look more feminine with bare arms.

These are just some ideas from a collector of the more modern pieces. There are a few pieces before 1995 in my collection, but I am definitely an outlier in this crowd when it comes to the date of the setting. Thus my preferences definitely differ from many of the collectors who focus on earlier time periods and are so active in this forum. It is still entertaining looking at sets one does not collect!

Making the  figure parts removable for easy changing is a major first step in this process. Let's hope that the rainbow of torso, arm and leg colors arrives sooner than later.

Cheers, Pgal

So maybe PM could lead the way and give us plain torsos in 50 different colors so we could make them whatever we want. They seem to have enough head, arm and leg colors and faces to offer plenty of ethnic options, which is a wonderful way to customize. It looks like you have a real city of people once you get enough choices as to hair and plain torso colors, and sleeve and pants leg length.

YES. I'm all for that.

Making the  figure parts removable for easy changing is a major first step in this process.

And for that too. My fingers would appreciate. I spent more than hald thw WC final popping them..

So the BIG QUESTION IS WHAT CAN WE BUILD WITH THE 5203 and 5204 FIGURES?????

For a starter, a quick version of a Girl's Garage Band.....with a couple of notes.... the bongo player is yup, the only guy in the band...have to have someone that cute to flirt with all of the babes. And the original 4512 Special Guitar Girl has joined the band as well. And we needed some tropical input from our sungoddess bass guitar player. So these three musicians are exceptions to who can join the 5304 garage band.

On rhythm guitar we have the lovely Ms. Cave Woman with her daughter Little Cavey riding on her back and taking in the hot licks on the guitars. Next two her is Lovely Lucia, their bassist, who is visiting from Puerto Rico this week. This lady can't get enough sun in the garage and is afraid she will lose her tan if they practice any longer.

Next in the lineup is Xylophone Genius Gina, who can play a mean keyboard as well whenever we can find one to put in the band.....any ideas folks? Gina is standing next to her roomie, the gorgeous Bennie on the bongos. He really makes those drums jump to the beat. And then we come to the vivacious Bonnie on the lead guitar....she loves practicing anywhere there is an audience. And bringing up the band is the lead singer, tenacious Tahra, complete with tatoos on her arms.

They are practicing each night after work trying to perfect their Battle of the Bands routine for the Zirndorf LoveFest competition August 8th. It is hot and sweaty in the garage, and killer mosquitoes are about to win the Battle of the Bands. These gals have tried out a lot of different songs and prefer sounds of the Pretenders version of "I'm Not in Love." Any ideas for songs they should perform?

Enjoy the pics, Pgal

The Guitar Player special is a man! At least, I always thought so.

Tahra,
I knew of neither the male or female guitar player and came up with the gal off eBay a week ago. You can pick up her lovely set 4512 for just 80USD (Incl. shipping to anywhere) from a scalper in HK I think...the last one on the US ebay. What a deal!

Then I lucked out and found a listing for just her figure without the original red guitar. And she popped up in the post yesterday by coincidence...just 10USD incl. shipping. Within my price range for an otherwise obscenely priced Special.

She is a huge Chrissie Hynde (and Pretenders) fan and is leading the band in practicing Lynde's songs from her CD "Bare." Long live the Pretenders!

Next up on their card are attempts at Annie Lennox in "Why" and "Everyday Is Like Sunday." Then they move into something a little faster......any favorites here guys that you want the band to practice later today?

Back in a minute with more photos of band practice. Time to eat fresh watermelon and peaches for breakfast....the best thing about summer in NC, Pgal

Hey Playmogal, what's the name of your local toyshop?  I'm still waiting on mine to arrive in Charlotte NC. My local shop told me late August.

Hi Elric!
I buy from Science Safari in Cary at 919.460.6051 from Becky and John the friendly owners. I picked up the last from their first two boxes yesterday. They have ordered more figures already...sorry.
PM me if you need more info, Pgal

Tahra,

Great eye and much deeper knowledge of these folks than I have!!! You must be correct!!!  (Hubby, however, thinks he is really a she, a flat-chested woman. Of course with so many adrogynous rock stars wearing heavy eye make up, it is hard to tell what they are.)

Guess it could be time for a sex change as this guy deserves to be a very hot looking chick! Or should we let him remain a man and give the babes another choice besides Bongo Boy? If I could afford two of him/her, I would do one of each. That would be cool as the outfit is out of this world!

I nominate 4512 Guitar Player for figure of the decade and definitely a reissue status. Would buy at least a dozen if he/she were a Special! Pgal

I did find my favorite Klickie, the 4512 Guitar Player, on eBay.de for 12.88E. With shipping to the US,  that price would kill me.
The worst part is that the seller has 10 of them new for sale. Aaaarrrgh!
Would love to have his/her parts to mix with collectibles, Pgal

Just stopped by the local TRU searching for dragons for Queen Tahra and to my surpirse, they had one half full box of 5203 and 5204 combined on the shelf in the regular PM aisle!!!! My first time to see them in TRU.

The store has a "buy one and get another one half off" sale going right now, so I picked up 8 more figures for about 2.3USD each. It did not look as if they had many figures to begin with, so you may find them sold out. I was amazed that they did not mark up the price as has happened before with L collectible figures.

The best buy in my mind was the Grande Mansion 5302. The first is $140 and the second is $70. What a deal! Unfortunately I don't need an extra one or two, so will have to think about that one. 5302 is sold out on their website, so they must have just arrived at my local TRU. Wish I knew some "little" girls who badly craved a 5302!!!

I did not find anything else that I needed....already have plenty of the room sets for the 5302,; this was the first time I had seen the mansion or its room sets at our TRU.

If anyone has any female Klickies (except Victorians) in good condition that they want to sell, that is what I have been collecting.  Just let me know. Have acquired a lot from PM US and from German sellers on eBay.de. Thanks, Pgal!

Awesome! Thanks for sharing, Playmogal! :)

I need to get my hands on about 5 of the Uncle Sam figure.  I grabbed a few surprise figures last month but not a single Uncle Sam!
