Title: Marketon Joust - Entries, Rules, Die Rolls
Post by: Tiermann on June 07, 2011, 00:17:20
Hello everyone,
this is the primary organizational thread for the Marketon Summer Jousting Tournament

The event will be posted here at PlaymoFriends beginning July 18th
The previous invitation thread is Here (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=7711.0)

The rules for the event are as follows:

Match Structure

The object of the competition is to unhorse your opponent, if you manage to do this, you have won the match. If you have not managed to unhorse your opponent you get points based on the location of your hit.  You continue to take passes at each other until one person has unhorsed his opponent or managed to score 3 points in total. If the match is tied at 3-3 the first person to have a higher score than his opponent wins the match. Of in some freaky way both competitors are knocked off their horse, the person who scored more points in the previous passes is declared the winner. If this also results in a tie, the competitors have to get back on their horse and go at it until one has more points.

Of course unhorsing your opponent is a celebrated way to win a match, so next to the victory you will also receive honor. However by hitting your opponent’s horse or his head you are risking injuring the horse or your fellow combatant and will result in losing some honor.

(For each pass each combatant rolls two six sided dice and adds the results, the result determines the hit)

(2) Hit Opponents Horse, 0 Points, -1 Honor
(3,4,5) Miss, 0 Points
(6,7,8) Hit Shield, 1 Point
(9) Hit Body, 2 Points
(10) Hit Head, 2 Points, -1 Honor
(11,12) Unhorse, Win, +1 Honor

Group System

The 32 competitors will be divided into 8 groups of 4. There will be 6 matches in each group after which the two competitors with the most victories will move to the single elimination rounds. If two or more competitors are tied for 2nd place the tie breakers will be as follows:

1)   Honor
2)   Point difference (points scores – points opponents scored)
3)   Result between the combatants

Knock Out Phase

There will be 4 rounds to the knock out phase; Round of 16, Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Finals. People that competed in the same group are only able to face each other in the finals.

Your participation

Your Knight

If you wish to have a knight in the tournament you must post in the Invitation Thread or here that you wish to participate. You will need to choose the heraldry of your knight. Whenever possible we will create an exact copy of a knight you post. If we are unable to do so we will discuss with you necessary adjustments. If you wish to have a unique heraldry you are welcome to do so. You may mail the knight directly to us, or we can attempt to create the custom here if time permits.

A chart of available heraldry will be posted below. When we have the knight in hand we will post here their official arrival portrait.

Your Die Rolls

To roll your scores you must go to this website http://www.rpglibrary.org/software/securedice/index.php
There you will need to fill in the following:

1)   Where it says “Roll” you select “2” for the first drop down box and “6” for the second drop down box.
2)   Then go to “Roll this set of dice” and choose “50”
3)   For the “Send the signed results of this roll to yourself:” Fill in your own email address if you want to receive the rolls by email.
4)   At the “and the GM:” please fill in my email address which is tiermann@animobil.info
5)   Finally at the “with this subject:” please put “Jousting – <playmofriends name>” (for instance: Jousting – Gis).
6)   Then click the “Roll the dice” button.

We will use these results to see in which group you will be participating as well as how your fights will go. They will not be used in this order though so the outcome will still be a surprise.

If you are willing to have some hand in the fate of your champion please do this before Monday the 27th of June. If we have not received them we will generate rolls for you at that time!

Nope. I made both. But Gis chose the designs. The white bear is the official coat of arms of Greenland. I actually learnt it from Gis, I thought it was the same as Denmark...

So here is my second entry for the MJT.
His name is Alban de Fleury, "the righteous". He will travel with his squire, Simon. Don't be mistaken by his coat of arms, he's a powerful Jouster, indeed.

I would like to have as many die rolls in by Sunday the 19th as possible. We are going to have the first photo session the 20th. I would be surprised if we have all of the mailed contestants here by then, so we will have to delay the opening ceremonies photos until closer to the event. So ideally I would like to start the match photos for the first rounds the 20th. Everyone who has their rolls in by then I will put into their placement in the first rounds and then do photos of the matches I can.

In this case i will skip taking picvs of my knights leaving krull and sent immediately once they arrive  so that no delays incurre becuase of Krulls contesntants, I will sent with express delivery so they will arrive within 48 hours , i epxect to have these knight from arnaud early this week , so they should be there by end of this week, next Monday the latest !!! Please my apologies for not posting their departure from krull but as my playmoden is quite a few miles away will be kinda difficult to do this and also meet the deadlines .

George - there is no super rush on the klickies. We will have plenty of photos to take on the 20th. It is going to make the most sense to do the opening ceremonies in early July as a second photo session at the big diorama. There will be many photos taken in between on a smaller diorama as well.

What I am concerned about is getting the die rolls. That way I can get the contestants assigned to their places in the preliminary rounds. Once I have that there will be more than enough to do.

Dice rolls sent for Sir Sigismus and Sir Barry.

We had a major day of preliminary shooting yesterday, totalling about 7 hours of setting up and phography. Very hot with all the studio lights (standard lamps, about 600 Watts all told), even with windows open and ceiling fans running. The main set is staying up while Tim does the individual jousts and background stuff in his smaller studio, then we return to the big diorama for some final shots for the late entrants.

I'll have a couple of small background photostories to add too.

The chart in the first post has been updated.

This is the last chance for anyone new to join the event. We will be filling in the last two spots with returning knights from Winterhaven in the next couple of days if we don't hear from anyone.

We're good for everything at this point (except for George's knights yet)

I haven't posted any more intro pictures as the set I was using is torn down while I am doing the joust segment. I will do some either when I finish the battle parts or I get to Martin's and the larger dio. This will be a 3 day holiday weekend for me, so I hope to get a good deal of it all done. We're getting close to a third of the way through photography at this point, so things are looking good for posting on schedule.

The planned schedule is:

July 16 - Pre-Game show
July 17 - Grand March and Opening ceremonies
July 18 - Group rounds 1
July 19 - Group rounds 2
July 20 - Group rounds 3
July 21 - Bracket of 16
July 22 - Bracket of 8
July 23 - Semi-Finals
July 24 - Finals, Awards Ceremony

I love those pictures, Tim!
First, I'm glad you managed to make a horse coat for the three boar heads knight. Though, are you sure about the name? I reckon it was a different name when I made the banner...AND, the knight doesn't look like my memory of Sir Seamus Flynn. 8}
Second, where did you get that white feather on Sir Alexander of Korent's helmet??? Tell me, please! I want some sooooo much! Are they from DS?
Third, I think Angelo will be surprised to see sir Odysseus' horse coat in Oregon but, he's the Lord of IthAca not IthIca.  ::)
Best,
Arnaud

Took me a bit to figure out. It must be from one of the old color series sets. It's not recent that I am aware.
