I like them! The one with the policeman hat reminds me of the scenes in the Police Academy movies, in the Blue Oyster Bar

You are right Jeremy, a few years ago I was in Paris and found myself accidentaly in a street full of gay bars and many of them where dressed like that! But I guess this dressup is only for the bar and not for everyday life.

well, we are still a concervative society, gay people are not able to express themselves very openly, even at places they feel more comfortable, if they feel like dressing so.

are these customs inspired by a particular motion picture? - i ask clarification because Gastón mentioned one i've never watched - otherwise i find them to be derogatory stereotypes that could make some people feel uncomfortable (i know there wasn't a bad intention behind their elaboration)

hello louis ; read me well , it's not "derogatory"!!!

the first picture is a film as you can read , for the black one i think to village people , the hairdress is a stereotipe i've met most of one time .

Of course , i caricature things more than one time in my customs , i think with picture in my mind and i think we all do stereotipe all the time !! you know when geobra make a pirate with Wooden leg and hook and bear , it's a stereotipe !!

what i will do : if anybody feel hurt by this picture , tell me why and i will ask the moderator team to remove my post immediatly .

(this is subjectif , i can be hurt by violence of a knight gun made by playmobil , but i won't make philosophie in english ...)
Title: Re: playmo gay
Post by: Luis on May 14, 2011, 20:21:41
i don't think you need to remove them, that's why i asked for clarification - when i first saw them i did feel unfortable not knowing where the inspiration came from - then again i read your intention wasn't bad and hence we don't need to make a big deal out of this :)9

There was an excellent custom of Freddy Mercury in "I want to break free", can someone remember which thread it was??
The hair stylist reminds me of Freddy Mecury, maybe it's the hair (and the perfectly matching moustache, of course!)

when i lived in Europe i noticed first world countries also have regions where people can be very conservative, especially in small towns...Mexico city generally is very open minded because it's a place where there are people of all kinds, just like any other big city in the world like NYC or Paris

there's all types of ideologies all over the world, regardless of what country you live in

Can we have a bit more of the global geography lesson over in the PFZ section? Interesting to see how we see each other - it will have to be a tongue in cheek stereotyping session and NO-ONE must take offence. After all, we all learn through our mistakes and stereotyping is often an interesting mistake to learn from.

i am sure you mean well but sometimes we should be careful on how our words and actions can make other people sad.
if you are sure you don't have a problem with "gay" people (and i am sure you are sure) maybe you could have tried not to mention it - there is really no need.
i am sorry if i was rude with you gaspodfreud, that was not my intention.

I applaud everyone for making amends in this topic! Well done. :)9 It proves that there are very sensitive individuals that have true feelings among us, but are willing to step back & say a compassionate word. I have been watching this topic, & was hopeful that the moderating team would not need to intervene, & all I can say is thank you for proving we are all great friends that mean no harm to each other. As I was told by a person I admired long ago, I'd rather take a beatin' than hear words that hurt, because the words stay in your head for as long as you'll let 'em. ;)

hi cachalote , you know i just write fews words just to say i have nothing agains't gay person (i was afraid of polemics ...) ; maybe i didn't chose the goods words and i understand what you think about (ask please if you have a doubt !!). I would be happy to write i'm gay but i'm not ....

Remember i'm french and it's sometimes difficult to miss vocabulary (i like choosing the good words but ...) You know i try to not judje people in life considering i don't know their history (exept when someone hurt me of course)  ok we're two Awkward for differents reasons ,happy your firsts words for me wasn't in a bad intention !   forget it !!   let's think to our playmobils in here !!

ps : is anybody feel hurt or irrespect by something i write , tell me !! i never do compromise with respect question and try to take care about other person (exept the one who don't respect) but i'm not pecfect too and i'm french !!

ps 2 : too late to change my words in the begining of the post , never mind if i can explain !!
Title: Re: playmo gay
Post by: Luis on May 22, 2011, 20:40:39
well said BB :)9

Cachalote, if Gaspofreaud hadn't made that initial comment (about his friend) anyone unfamiliar with the movie he was inspired by would've immediatly reacted deffensive in a direct way - i kind of reacted that way BUT the fact that he mentioned he's an inclusive person encouraged me not to react disapproving but rather asked for clarification (about the movie/source of inspiration) before being judgemental about him :)

because these customs are very sterotypical i do justify the use of an explanation before hand, which was a good decision by Gaspo, imho :)

Title: Re: playmo gay

That's something I've always tried to imagine here is how words could be mistranslated sometimes causing hurt feelings, but they were never meant to in the beginning. This is an outstanding forum that we all have contributed to making this way. I never want to believe that there is anyone with actual intent to harm anyone one else here.

I've just rejoined this thread.  No, I look nothing like that when I go out.  I prefer to leave the house with a couple of rashers of bacon on my head (at the very least).

And as for offending people, I have often said on another forum I am on (where i am a moderator and occasionally have to pour oil on troubled waters) that although we are very friendly and chatty on line, most of us have never met and we know absolutely nothing of peoples' domestic circumstances or arrangements - rich or poor, gay or straight, black or white, left or right wing, lonely, depressive, agorophobic, terminally ill, typing their messages from a prison cell. We will never really know who are are dealing with unless we meet them (unlikely on an international forum for more than a few of us to meet a few others.  Smilies go a long way to indicate intent, but feelings can often go deeper than a winking smiley can help with.

And on that note, I may be about to set off a light hearted discussion on stereotyping where we can get a few questions answered over here http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=6646.2235 (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=6646.2235) or not!!!

Hellooooo, everybody! I'm afraid that there will be no discussion of stereo types in any topics on this forum. This will be enforced due to some people not being able to translate languages in a safe way, or being sensitive to certain issues, along with many other reasons. As you already mentioned Alison, we don't know the most intimate details of each other, whether rich, poor, black, white, etc. so there will be no chances taken to hurt each others feelings because arguments stemming from these types of discussions have already been intervened by the moderator team, & we've learned no good will come of it.
Title: Re: playmo gay
Post by: Alison01326 on May 23, 2011, 20:52:22
It's not a Playmobil forum I moderate on, it's a camper van forum so you are unlikely to come across me elsewhere.  Fortunately most of us on there meet up eventually (usually in a field) as 90% of the members are in Britain. There'll be 362 of us in a field somewhere near Birmingham in a month's time  8} The remainder are spread very far and wide.

If it's easier for you to try and stereotype me in French, you can (I've got a few pieces of paper somewhere which say that I can speak it well)!!!  I may provide my own stereotype of people from my part of Britain at some stage on the non-Playmo section of the forum.

We can do without this kind of thread, IMHO.

hello bill , i perfectly understand a subejct on stereotipes can be dangerous (when the door is open ...) , it can be done in small community with people without bads intentions but in a forum of 400 persons ....

well 82 answer in my post for 4 pictures !!!  ;D and on the other hand 2 answers for 50 knights !!   :'( it remind me coluche a french humorist "bob marley make a show 100000 person have to pay , the pope , 3000 persons who doesn't pay , maybe the reggae is more important than religion in time  " (with my bad translation )  ???
