That ADAC theme looks great. Thanks for bringing it to the board, andi.

Now I wonder what they are planning for the fire brigade with all these new ideas in rescue?

Here's the story of St Martin

THE STORY OF ST. MARTIN OF TOURS

St. Martin was born in Southern Hungary about the year 320 A.D. He came of a good class family, but they were pagans. As a young man Martin heard of Christianity and was favourable towards it. At the age of eighteen he enrolled in the Roman Army, and quickly rose to the rank of Tribune or Legion Commander. On a bitterly cold winter's day he was riding at the head of his troops through the gate of Amiens, when he was accosted by a beggar clad only in rags, and shivering with the cold, who asked Martin for food or money. Having nothing to offer, Martin removed his large red military cloak, drew his sword and cut the cloak in half. Having given half to the beggar, he wrapped the other half about his own shoulders and went on his way.

At night, Martin had a vision in which he saw Our Lord with the angels in heaven and wearing the half cloak which he had given to the beggar. Our Lord said to the angels, "See, Martin has given this unto Me".

This was the turning point in Martin's life. He soon left the Army and studied under St. Hilarv. He was baptised, entered a monastery, was then ordained and was soon known for his good works. In 370 he was consecrated Bishop of Tours. He passed to the higher life in November, 401, at Candes, at the age of eighty. His last prayer was: "Lord, if I am still necessary to the people, I would not draw back from the work". With much ceremony he was laid to rest at Tours. St. Martin's Day is kept on November 11th

And, thanks for a GREAT story, Gordon ... :)

I'd love a better picture as well, but I can already see enough to know I will want several! Very cool!
Me too, Cap'n Henry ... :)

Hmmm ... First the priest and friar, then the Christmas sets, then the nun Special, then Noah's Ark and now St.Martin ... Wonder what's next ??? A church ??? (Hope so! And, hope it's Steck System like the Red and Blue Timbered Houses!)

All the best,
Richard

Thanks for the story, Gordon. I only knew parts of the story, but never realized that formerly St. Martin was a roman tribune. So the speical really makes sense.

Thanks for the story, Gordon.

Yes, thanks Gordon! (I forgot to thank you in my previous posts...  :-[)

It is a wonderful story, and I am sure the kids will love hearing it and re-enacting it in Playmobil!

I am so sorry to spoil your understandable excitement but the pieces shown there were made by a German customizer and his posting in "novelties" was supposed to be a joke.   ^-^

Hmmm,

ok let us analysing this picture !!

If this ADAC Thema a customizing it was very good.

Ok first i saw the inside from the small cityvan was yellow , too
It was not realy easy to brush cars inside !
The backlights from the cityvan are clear glass form the ADAC are orange !
The yellow light at the roof of the car looks very professional.

But the number plate are not realy original playmobil they use ever PM 06 XXXX
so we saw a "M" for the munich town !!
The old ADAC Car had "PM 05 4071"

The light from the big car can used from the 4071 ,too !

hmmm difficult question !
But i can tell you im a member form this ADAC and i wrote a question mail about this new Playmobil item !!  ;D

ENJOY the bigger pic !!

gentle greets

Andi

ok let us analysing this picture !!

Good idea  ;D. With your larger photo it's more easy to do so.

If this ADAC Thema a customizing it was very good.

Yes, that's absolutely true.

Ok first i saw the inside from the small cityvan was yellow , too
It was not realy easy to brush cars inside !

Maybe not easy but possible. I can show soon ;D
(BTW, I think it's not that difficult to unassemble a vehicle to airbrush the single parts)

The backlights from the cityvan are clear glass form the ADAC are orange !

Yes, but for my personal taste they are to solid. Could be that they are painted with a orange signal enamel paint (on the photo it looks like the same colorshade like I'm using for my candle flames)

The yellow light at the roof of the car looks very professional.

I assume -- under the assumption that it is customized -- that this is an orginal PM part, like e.g. from the 3177 (http://www.collectobil.com/catalogue/items/3177.htm) Fire Chief Unit -- it looks quite the same to me appart from the lamps: I wonder how the orange lamps are made (maybe only some light airbrushing so that it still seems shiny?). I only wonder about the place where the lamps are mounted: it's directly at the joint of body and front-screen; I'm not sure that PM would design this in that way ... but maybe they prove me wrong.

But the number plate are not realy original playmobil they use ever PM 06 XXXX
so we saw a "M" for the munich town !!

Wow, where did you recognized the imprints on the plates? I can't read anything on the photo at all.

What I'm also wondering, is the big black "ADAC" imprint on the "city van" side: it looks somehow "bleached"/"transparent" to me; especially the first three characters -- seems to me like a self-made decals with the printer having some difficulties of covering with black ink (but might also be a photo issue, who knows ...  ^-^).

I'm really curious if this is a customizing work or not. Hopefully we will see.

Hi,

thx Joe for your message !

Imprints on the plates?
hmmm ok i only assumr it.  ???
But the first letter at the truck looks for me a "M" !
But at the small Smart looks like a PM !

lets wait for the answer !!  ;D

So it looks like I was fooled. :-\ The ADAC sets are no customization indeed as Playmobil released the set numbers. :-[  I apologize for my false and misleading post and now I'm really nervous to get those sets!! :yup:

If the vehicles were just prototypes for display purposes, that could explain why the printing and paintwork looked less than perfect. :hmm:

Thanks for the extra information about St. Martin, Gordon. Cool to hear that they are planning on producing a historically-based figure. I hope there will be many more! :yup:

Bogol, come back here and take your punishment! :whip:
Just kidding! ;D All is forgiven. ;)

I get the impression from a recent post by Lumina at Playmo-Portal that these are probably store exclusive sets for the German market. So available, but less so than a general release.

I hadn't noticed the motorcyclist before.  Do Vedes do mail order to the UK?  Or is anyone on the board near a Vedes store?

(I came across the ADAC car on Ebay.nl btw.)

 :o
i am a bit astonished with this st. martin release.
i have a very poor knowledge of all playmobil sets but, apart from the christmas sets, it's the first time i see this kind of religious "liaison".
i find it difficult to believe that this is a true set - going so much out of the "neutral" nativity sets with such a specific religious story.
if this indeed a true set, i think i am not liking the way the roman theme is developing.

 ???
monks and nuns and noah's ark, you are rigth, but st. martin is still too specific, in my view.
if you can picture a playmobil saint sebastian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Sebastian) you will understand my doubts, i'm sure.

I don't think there is any question of Playmobil producing a whole range of saints.  St Martin fits in to the Roman theme and no doubt there is a good reason for Playmobil to produce him which we will find out in the future.
