Future Planet Preview
http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-DE-Site/de_DE/Link-Page?id=TRAILER_FUTURE_PLANET
-
i'd seen it before on the German site but not on a youtube link (they had a flash version i think)...maybe they removed the original version and put it on youtube because it's faster, who knows
i think this is the first time we hear klickies speak in a preview? (besides the pc games)
PS i don't see that theme as a future planet theme (that'd need to be more more The Jetsons-like imho) - I'd call this theme The Mars Invasion or something like that
-
I hadn't seen this yet; thanks for the link! This theme is growing on me.
-
This theme is growing on me everytime I look at it!
-
Very cool. I hadn't seen it before. Thanks for sharing Ds Dad!
Joe
-
thank you DsDad!
even a historical buff like me cant help but  this theme...will be very difficult resisting buying these :P and I keep noticing their bent arms and knees, when and how can we ever have these without having to heat-bend it ourselves... ;D
-
I think it's a great theme.
It does qualify as future planet - the main good guys structure is a terra-forming facility using plants to alter the planets atmosphere. That's both futuristic and planet based so I think it qualifies even for the term hard science fiction rather than fantasy.
-
I love love looooooove the theme!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im sorry to disagree with everyone else but I like it sooooo much more than the prehistoric theme!!! Can't wait to have it!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I can not help but find it quite interesting what Geobra wants to teach kids. Taking direct quotes out of the movie
"The E-Rangers are building a new home for humanity"
"Jack! The Darksters!" :hmm:
Then a war of violence breaks out ::)
Looks like a very neat theme that boys will surly have fun with but some name changes are needed
I guess Geobra's policy of not doing modern warfare is out
-
i must be the only one in this forum who thinks this theme is horrible :hmm: :P
-
That's a cool video! It surely inspires to play :P
-

It's no different than medieval warfare in my opinion. But with lasers, not spears, crossbows, lances, maces, bows & arrows

Yes war is war but didn't playmobil say they will never do modern war themes? They have covered the ancient wars quite well as you said and now we have a future war theme but nothing in the middle. As though we were all at peace farming
-
It would be nice if we were farmers at peace with one another Ras!
-
It would be nice if we were farmers at peace with one another Ras!
Wouldn't it :high5: but we would all need the classic smile, not the modern frowning klicky
I have all the weird system X space theme and I do think these will go nicely together

You aren't disagreeing with everyone; we all love this theme! But wait, weren't you the one that was hoping for cavemen back before the theme was announced?
-
Cooll theme!! I had my reservations when I first saw the pics! Now I am certain I will go for it when it hit the shelves!!!
Thank you for the link!!!
-
Ya ya ya, policy, future wars, pirates, knights, systems X, got it.
Dibs on 5152 and 5149.

I really wished it was mor eoriginal and not so AVATAR based . But i supose that would sell however a bit late to launch these considering when AVATAR was released. I suppose the NPD cycle ( New ProductDevelopment) takes its time at Playmobil
I ma sure Mr Hans Beck the father of our beloved playmobil would never approve of such a theme but i think what ever will sell today playmobil will inevitably make it as its a company that seeks profit after all.
And as far as this series is concerned because i lost my entire playmospace fleet and collection at a flood in 97 i never bought them again nor the weird looking system x space or alien series. BUT these sets despite being very avatar like and miss some originallity are interesting and shame really they havent expanded this range into space and create some cool spaceships etc . I prefere the old steck mediaval ( not a surprise I am sure ) and the western old sets BUT these are tempting and I am sure they will grow on me to the point I end up having a mechanismed army of these exosuits and many of these cool looking vehicles . lots or none thats unfortunatelly my playmo curse ....

yes I was, but I didn't know this future planet thing was in store! I do love the prehistoric, but i like thise one better!"

The mech is a 100% certain buy for me (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/luwerner/gif/cheers.gif).
And sorry George, I didn't see any 3 m high blue aliens there, nor six-legged horses, so I fail to see what this has to do with Avatar (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/luwerner/gif/hmm-1.gif).
-
I don't know if it has anything to do with Avatar or not, nor do I particularly care. All I know is aside from my bias because I'm so playmobil-crazy, I think this has to be the best space-themed playset(s) I have ever seen, and definitely deserves to win many awards, particularly this one: http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-DE-Site/de_DE/Product-Show?pid=5149&cgid=Future . Kids are actually learning about possibilities of future scenarios like this in school, and I think it's great for them to have a toy that lets them explore the idea with their imaginations. I think they've outdone themselves with this one.
-
The structure is Avatar like Primus,
That is what I believe George meant.
I do not agree Bonnie,
this set is not at all like what our planet colonies will look like
in my opinion. :hmm:
-
Well, I personally don't believe we ever will have colonies like this on other planets. I just think it's a good way for a kid to imagine these things. Not wild about the darksters, however.
-
Thanks for the link, Ds dad. I'm not struck with the new theme, so you're not alone, Luis.
Has anyone else thought that the space craft that lands on the small platform structure just after the start looks very much like a flying black and white cow?
-
 It does, kind of!
-

Structure as in buildings?
The only structure you see in Avatar, apart from the base and alien tree house are those portable labs, that look like a cargo shipping container, so I still can't see any resemblance in the buildings of those sets. The only thing that would look like something from Avatar is the mech/walker/exo-skeleton. But then you could also say the sets "look too much like Alien II".
-
Maybe I have to see the movie again, but doesn't the base kind of look like that? ???

You would be really surprised how close we are to being able to colonize other planets.
Did you know if we only raised Mars 10*F, it would release enough carbon dioxide to form a thicker, livable atmosphere.
And scientists already have a number of theories that we could in fact do right now to raise the temp.
No new technology would be needed.

I do not agree Bonnie,
this set is not at all like what our planet colonies will look like
in my opinion. :hmm:
The structure and the exoskeleton and the breathing /mark apparatus are clearly copied from AVATAR and in that sense some element of originality is missing. I am sure if they had blue native aliens the whole think would require a licence to be produced etc etc .
I dont have a clue what our colonies if if there are ever any as we hardly manage to keep our planet going and we continuously destroy it and overpopulate ( see the sci fi movie cargo quite an interesting option is presented there) BUT I dont agree with you Bonniebeth :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: that this is first of all a colony as i dont see any colonial aspects in it really it looks more like a military outpost to me and also i think the playmospace original series that resembled 2001 space odyssey caused quite a sensation when they were released i doubt this new series wil last more than a couple of seasons.
I would have much prefered to see spaceships more realistic than the system x rubbish ones and closer to the playmospace series that was more ' NASA oriented ' and educational. The klickies there collected rocks and had vehicle equipment like a big drill and a transport , the whole idea was peacefull adn educational one of the sets looks just like Columbia Space Shuttle etc . This new series is too much like AVATAR , its NOT space as there are no spaceships and its not peaceful but rather violent . Ok , mediaval are even worse with their weapons etc etc nevertheless i detect a lot of modern weaponry looking at these sets in more details. Hans Beck wouldnt approve end of story and Giorginetto after careful consideration doesnt either :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

Just because the advertising presents these as two opposing sides doesn't mean you have to play that way. I see the darker guys more like your typical asteroid miners while the others are more a scientific team. As far as the modern war thing goes I think that really translates as "we are a German company and can't do anything even remotely like the Nazis so we are going to just skip over the whole period" They have started doing some figures with modern camo on them and I would not be surprised if eventually they do some Peacekeepers force sets some day. They just wont ever go back to the 20th century in a battle theme.
-
That mech is much closer to the exo-skeleton on Aliens (a heavy duty lifter) - and so is the breather, by the way - then the combat one on Avatar. In fact, the one on Avatar is very similar to the one used on Matrix, so the license thing would get a bit bogged up with all those references.
Still can't see James Cameron's hand in those sets ;).
-
Actually, it’s based on a machine by Mechanized Propulsion Systems, Incorporated (http://www.mechaps.com/). I thought they sold out and closed shop years ago, but Google says they’re still in business. Maybe they just sold the blueprints for their first robot and stayed in business. I do agree that the robots from Avatard looks like MPS’s robot. (Gee, can’t imagine how THAT happened.)
BTW- They were profiled a few years ago in Popular Mechanics.
Just because the advertising presents these as two opposing sides doesn't mean you have to play that way.
(http://www.thesmilies.com/smilies/happy/yes.gif)You should have seen my “collection” growing up- Destro was the Warden of a prison (made of Legos), gung Ho was the Grand Admiral, and Tom the Paramedic (from Fisher-Price’s Adventure People line) was a medic on the Flagship.

Andy, this concept is nothing new. Back in the late 60's/early 70's the US army was already experimenting with exo-skeletons.

I like the idea to put these playmo exoskeletons against some playmo T-Rex etc etc
I reckon an army of these EXSK's will be quite impressive !!! ;D

Ya, but the layout is MPS’s design. The system you referred to was a four-legged (¿or was it six?) design. THAT got re-used by Captain Power And The Soldiers Of The Future. (Yes, I had one. Yes, it switched sides. Actually, three or four times. :hmm: then it got stolen by a neighbor. >:()
I like the idea to put these playmo exoskeletons against some playmo T-Rex etc etc
Like Mecha Su-Dia in a Genesis Pit… Hell, I’d ACTUALLY pay to see that… :yippee: :**:
-
Six legs, but that wasn't the same thing - the one you're referring to was testing forms of movement through difficult terrain. It was even proposed as a lunar vehicle.
The exo-skeletons still are in tests today, from something bulky like the one you showed to much smaller units, but the concept shows up every once in a while since the 70's. The US army is currently testing a legs + arms unit (can be used only for the legs, for marches, or for arm + legs, for lifting/carrying heavy weights).
-
I am sorry but the movie Avatar was nothing new and the ideas were all taken from elsewhere. Really not that creative of a story in my opinion.
I would agree that playmobil is trying to capitalize on the purchasing power of movie merchandise but seeing as their design, production, marketing and distribution is so time consuming it seem so late to the party every time.

You can not see it due to the shadow but the reason he is there is he is unable to let go of his S&W pistol
I hope these robot skeleton things are around $20 as I also think an army of these would be so neat, maybe my clowns could drive them ;D
-
Well well, I have been out of the loop. Completely missed this theme until today with the latest product reviews.
The sets reminded me immediately of the movie Aliens, not Avatar, and I have seen both. As usual, it seems PM are taking their new themes from movies, or perhaps incorporating movie ideas into their themes, and I guess that's inevitable.
The mech-walker will be a big hit with me, I'm guessing around the $18-20 mark for a single one, so I'll be assembling a team of at least three. I'll probably end up getting at least one of everything, just as I did with the Top Agents, even if the sets are likely to gather dust for a while afterwards. I love all the Playmobil robots, and I'm certain the human race will colonize other planets some day, but maybe not within my lifetime. If we hadn't had the economic meltdown then I think we'd have had an international Moonbase within 20 years, and a Mars Base within 50.
