Title: Animobil Seeking Custom Animals
Post by: Tiermann on May 05, 2006, 03:55:11
OK, I got active and finally created the Customized Animals section at Animobil.
If you have an animal for inclusion there please either send me the picture or a link to the location you would like me to use. It is nice if there is a Klicky in the photo for size comparison but not required (which I have to say since I didn't put one in mine)
I'm happy to link to your own site or other location for you with your animal.

Thanks

That's a great idea for a new feature, Tim! 8-)

Oh cool  8-)
You finally did it. And weekend is approaching so I can make some more photos (at least two "new" ones).

Ups, you already have included two photos of mine  :-[ ... I totally have forgotten that I already send you those two pictures (thought I have to do them again).

Everything I have for customs is already up now, so if you don't see it I don't have it. :)

:o Wow, very cool ideas for animals and very well excuted! I love them. I really should try myself on these types some time too (I think I should have them in my animal collection too).

Ok Tim, here are three "new" ones for your Web site

The most recent one: the young zebra.

My first one: a ram

And a little work I did some time ago: a mini lop (rabbit with hanging ears) -- it's not a "perfect" one  ;) but a first try on customizing the ears (next time I should try to remove them completely and rearrange them more on the head's side).
BTW this rabbit has a real-life counterpart named Rudi (http://www.jr-x.de/kaninchen/rudi/) (here another photo of him (http://www.jr-x.de/kaninchen/verhalten/nestbau_rudi.jpg)) ... uh, but this is non-playmobil-related stuff  :-[

Thanks Jochen
I will get those in the next update.

I am thinking now I will have to split the pages more and have one for birds, one for mammals, and one for everything else.
It will get too big too fast I think with everything on one page.

Thanks also to Andi for his, and to Cap'n H for a couple coming, and Jimbo.

That will be a good idea 'cause I have several birds in the pipeline  ;D

Animobil updated tonight with all the customs I currently have. Some nice ones this time.
So far I am staying with the two page format but subdividing the pages by types. The way the program I use for site creation works I can easily turn the extended tree on as individual pages for each category or even each custom later if I need to.

Would love to have more.
If you have any great photos for a gallery section please send those on as well. As soon as I have enough I will open up that section as well.

I noticed today that in the upcoming events is the Animobil Anniversary. My first thought on seeing it was - I have an anniversary? :D So that motivated me to get this update done. I was also motivated by the 11 errors I found in browsing my site today.  :o I am sort of amazed at how much I have done in just a year. I started my database a couple of years before starting the site but 90% of the photography has been done in the last year. I have images on almost every one of the hundreds of pages at this point. Will do a sweep through for my next update and check what I am still missing. I know I have very few of the 1-2-3 series animals. That is the next big collecting push I need to make.

A flying owl (white variant) ...

... and some more parrots (I do not know, if you would like to add all, but anyway, I'll post them here -- I think it will become more interesting, when I come to the painted/multi-color flying variants)

the blue with yellow (http://www.animobil.info/text/3e258fc-1081.html) flying counterpart. (From this I also have a backview; maybe you want to use a backview instead of showing all color variants.)

The flying birds all look really good, Jochen.  8-)
Maybe Playmobil will take up this idea after seeing how natural your customs look. :)

You have been busy! :o

;D Yes, a little bit. I have (and had) quite a lot in the pipeline (not all spectacular ones, but who cares  ;)), and today I managed to complete a few ones and especially had the time to do some photos. But the parrots had been really my last contribution for today.

(BTW, the wicked witch of the west is also finished since half an hour -- just have to wait until the wig arrives, click it on her head, make a photo, and she will be right here -- additionally with the "new" customized animal, which is also ready for contribution)

I'm sorry it didn't arrive before the weekend... quite odd because I posted it on Tuesday (or was it Wednesday?) and it's only a small envelope. :(
At least you had plenty of other projects to keep you occupied while you were waiting. ;)

Don't mind. It's not urgent  :)
(Maybe the reason might be, that we had on Thursday a holiday in Germany ... or parts of Germany ...)

Here we are: the Wicked Witch of the West with two flying apes ( ^-^ ok, only one is flying  ;D).

(For those that do not know or not remember who this was, try a search at Google images for wicked witch of the west (http://images.google.com/images?q=wicked%20witch%20of%20the%20west&sa=N&tab=wi) and you will get a lot of samples  ;D)

So, Tim, I tried to add the flying counterpart to your idea of the winged monkey. From the front I'm quite satisfied with the result, but from the back I didn't managed to make the wings look that smooth integrated to the body like you did. For the variant with the folded wings, I didn't seperated the wings at all: I just removed the clipping parts and then heated the middle so that I could spread the wings in that way that they fit to the back of the monkey. (I wonder how you did the scaly looking middle part of the monkey's back) -- The spread wings variant are just two separated wings tried to fit smoothly to the ape's back (fixed with instant glue).

The Witch is made from the nun special (I really like this set -- it's that universally and I must admit, that I used it quite often in my work ... should catch up for some additional ones), the hat from the midnight witch and the cape also from the nun special; it was heated and transformed a little bit so that it looks like more flattery ... oh, and make a gues where the broom is from  ;D

Ok, I must admit that's not very clever talking about the back view and not showing it, so here it is.

Oh, yes! That's her, for sure. :D  Only she looks a little friendlier because she is smiling. ;)
Did you paint the hands or work out a way to swap them from another figure? I like the way you altered the cloak - very effective. :yup:
Don't recognise the broom though. It's not Playmo, is it?

The flying monkeys are cool too. 8-)
I think the back looks good considering the parts you have to work with.

Yes, maybe I should add the angry eyebrows.  >:(

No, they are painted with the same color as I painted the head.

Don't recognise the broom though. It's not Playmo, is it?

Right, it's a non-PM item.  :yup:

:-\ Hmm, I don't know. I think Tim had managed better with the material. As I said: from the front I'm satisfied, but the back is not as good as I would like.

Hmm... is the broom from a Sylvanian Family set perhaps?

No, it's from a Lego animal series (to be honest I do not know how they are called; I found them recently beneath our old toys; they are larger than the current Lego figures, but same principle and they do have different animal heads ... a sheep, a fox, a dog, a cat ...)

Ah... I know the ones you mean.  :yup:
Our older kids had a couple of sets when they were little. "Lucy Lamb" was one of the characters.
I couldn't remember the name of the series either, so I looked it up - Fabuland (http://www.the-end-of-the.net/lego_fabuland). :)
Title: Re: Animobil Seeking Custom Animals
Post by: Tiermann on May 30, 2006, 18:04:08
They all look great Jochen. To do the wings on my monkey I just took the vulture wings and sanded away the front part until it fit the monkey's back. I didn't cut out the center section but left it there. They look great though. I will get these added to Animobil next update.
I have a couple of other additions to make. There are in fact two versions of the hippo, one older and one newer. Also there are two versions of the new style lamb and sheep. I am aware of only one part number for each of those though.

Yes  :D You're absolutely right. And yes, I also had the Lucy lamb ... hm, not acutally me -- although I would have liked this as an animal friend -- but I think it was from my brother or sister -- anyway, I found that stuff when I was crawling around at my parents attick looking for some Playmobil stuff.

Uh, never thought of doing so with the unspread one. Looks really good. I should look out for a spare one to check this out.

Hm, with the spread one I actually tried but the arch of the vulture's back didn't match well to the monkey back, so I cut of the middle part.

I have a couple of other additions to make. There are in fact two versions of the hippo, one older and one newer. Also there are two versions of the new style lamb and sheep. I am aware of only one part number for each of those though.

Yes. Didn't noticed that you only have one at your site. The older hippo has an open tummy, the new a closed one. -- Oh, the different lamb styles I hadn't noticed so far. Should have a look at those that I have. BTW, what's the difference of them?

The lamb poses are obvious when you see them - one has both front legs forward while the other is standing up more. On the sheep it is the feet - they are mirror images of each other. One has right foot forward the other left. I wonder if the brown sheep come that way too? I only have one of those so can't tell.

Well, two further customized animals for your site, Tim.

This time it's a jaguar cub ...
Title: Re: Animobil Seeking Custom Animals

... and a quite simple one: a puma cub. (For both there exist no baby, so I tried to close the gap.)

(Actually it wasn't that simple, because I had to mix the correct color, and this is always a quite lengthy and most times also a frustrating process ...  ;))

Ok, Tim, I have again some animals (birds) for your site.

When I saw the marzipan swan on Animobil (http://www.animobil.info/) made by Andi (http://www.klickyworld.com/) (= Customizer (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=39)) I immediatly knew, I need such an animal for my collection too (not knowing that Playmobil already had plans for such an animal to be released at beginning 2007). The basic Playmobil part from which the swan should be modelled was found quite fast: the pelican. With the Dremel multitool I removed the flap under the beak and completed the removal with a fine file. The throat has been lengthen under the influence of heat from a hot air gun; same for the tail which has been bended up and narrowed with the file. The finishing was done with fine sanding paper (grain 600). Painting was done with Revell enamel colors: white silk matt (airbrushed) for the body, a self-mixed orange for the beak and a tank grey for the feet.

Some close-ups from the swan family.
Title: Re: Animobil Seeking Custom Animals
Post by: Little Jo on August 09, 2006, 19:14:23
And finally for this time a flying eagle.

The wings are -- as you already might guess -- from the vulture. The fixing is done with a combination of the original (folded) wings and those from the vulture; treated with the Dremel multitool and sanding paper that long, that both pieces fit tight and than glued together. So the wings can be removed quite easily in the same way as from the original vulture or the eagle.
Finally I painted the complete figure with a self-mixed brown shade (to have the same brown shade on the body and the wings) and the claws, eyes, and beak with Lufthansa yellow (silk matt) from Revell.

The flying sea eagle will come soon too, but will be nearly exactly the same -- just the head and tail will be re-painted again in white.

The swans look stunning, Jochen, as do all your other animal customs! 8-)

You have quite a knack for being able to spot which parts can be adapted to make the new animals, and the end results are wonderful. :yup:

I love the pic of the swan parents together with their offspring. Very sweet! :D

Hello Jochen !

FANTATIC WORK  !!

Ok, Tim, I have again some animals (birds) for your site.

When I saw the marzipan swan on Animobil (http://www.animobil.info/) made by Andi (http://www.klickyworld.com/) (= Customizer (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=39)) I immediatly knew, I need such an animal for my collection too (not knowing that Playmobil already had plans for such an animal to be released at beginning 2007).

but this Swan at animobil was not with Marzipan i modelling it with Milliput complete ! *LOL*
I use only the technic i made the swan for the wedding cake !
I make a realistic scale with 150 cm for this swan ! So the swan was by 1:24 or 1:22,5 scale ca. 6 cm long !
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mute_Swan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mute_Swan)

but i think was a little to big or ?? hmmm Enjoy the pic again.........

Great Eagle but want to see the white head one, too !  ;D

Good work your a great customizer Jochen !

gentle greets

Andi

Ups  :-[ I assumed it was from marzipan ... don't know how I came to this conclusion (I assume from the cake comment ...)

Great Eagle but want to see the white head one, too !  ;D

Sure, it comes soon too (just have to do some real-life gardining stuff first  :))

These both latest customs -- two cockatoos -- are a teaser for my updated birds customizing page (click on the pic to see).

(http://www.jr-x.de/playmobil/customizing/birds_cockatoo.jpg) (http://www.jr-x.de/playmobil/customizing/birds.html)

Although both are customs -- in contrast to my parrot customs which provide only a flying custom variant -- only the right one can be seen on my HP at the sequence of the flying parrots (http://www.jr-x.de/playmobil/customizing/birds.html#parrot).
