Title: Kingdoms Map: How it all began!
Post by: WarriorOfToys on January 27, 2011, 02:11:27
Heya Everyone!
So this came up a little while ago,
Some of us Medieval collectors were discussing where our kingdoms were on a world map.
So I made a map of Europe...
(Thinking back now I think I should have added Asia and more of the Middle East,
But we'll see how things go...)

I have marked out my territoy (Kingdom of Rutileo) with the Deep Red color.
Giorginetto claimed some of Germany, and I think Gis called the Netherlands.
Grangle, you wanted parts of France right? ???

I don't know about anyone else.
So all you Medieval collectors out there, come claim your stakes of land. ;D
Tell me where you want your kingdom and we will keep working on it until the map is covered.
(Or mostly covered...) :)

(Giorginetto and Gis your territories are fuzzy
because that is only where I think you wanted them.
Easier to erase this way... ;) )

Great Map WoT and great initiative!

However the red parts are the southern part of Norway and the Northern part of the Netherlands. The blurry blue area is mainly Belgium and the Northern part of France. But no matter it will work for me.

I'll let loose some photo shop on the map!! And post it again.

So I gave coloured my bit blue. It is not one Kingdom but the an area that I want to control the stories over *grin*. The whole are is called Nizzome. There are several places known places there. I also attached a closeup.

In the closeup we see the southern part which is a different shade of Blue this is the Kingdom of Belathre. Clearly the biggest Kingdom in the land as the rest are more city states. The light blue spot in the middle is the barony of Fallcrest and the Dark Blue in the east is Winterhaven.

This is exciting WoT!!

Subject to any competing claims I would like to makea claim for Yorkshire in England.  We have a rich heritage of medieval history with castles, cathedrals and battles.

Hey!
I want in!
Being no king, I do not have a kingdom. Say I have a "knightdom" (or whatever, what does a baron own?). As my flag shows, my knight is from Chablais which is a small mountainous land underneath the Léman lake, and just west of the actual Swiss border.
My guys are tough but I cannot display more than a hundred men, I have to leave a small garrison in my castle...

:knight: :knight: :knight: :knight: :knight: :knight: :knight: :knight: :knight: :knight: :knight: :knight: :knight: :knight:

(I'm usually against the excessive use of smileys, but... :hehe:)

Thank you for updating the map Gis! :)

Ooops, maybe my geography of Europe is not as good as I thought... :-[

Yes, the red parts on the mainland are the Rutilian colonies.
If you look very closely,
to the west of Norway there is more of a spot, though it is colored slightly red.
That is the Rutilian island. :)

Here is the updated map, with Giorginetto's, and Playmofirth's territories marked out.
Playmofirth, your territory is Orange.

I would also like to point out, that these territories are not quite at the boundary lines.
I am trying to make room for others as they want to join.
And I am thinking England could become a highly prized place.
(Due to the fact that several people live/lived/or are nearby it.)

So for now, the territory lines are staying fairly small. :)

A Baron own a Barony. ;)
Sure... where is that exsactly? ???

This also gives rise to another idea,
would anyone like to have a barony close to Arnaud?
If we got a few people who wanted to band together... they could make a kingdom. :)

As it is, I will mark out your spot on the map using google. ;)

I have made the Rutilian Island a little bigger,

I am saving that for other people,
Like if someone wanted western France.
But if I fill up the map
and no one wants it then you can have it. :)

Ok George, I gave you the Isle of Man...
Though in military sense it is not really the best place to have,
Since the rest of your Kingdom is fairly separate.
I hope you have a good navy. :)

As you wish Sir Wolf,

Grangel, if you wish to have a reason
why you and Wolf Knight are such good allies,
it could be because of lots of trade between your Kingdoms,
Rather than being neighbors. :)

Yes! That would be a great idea!!!

I will get Grangels opinion,
but if you both agree then I suggest moving your Kingdom
(Or at least stretching its boarders)
To meet the west coast of Greece.
It would be much more likely to have good trade relations then. :)

Also if you want the Balkans to be part of your territory
I suggest you take Southern Greece.

Here is a map to help you, do not include south Italy (it is for Grangel), Croatia, half Serbia and half Bulgaria, just imagine a line from a city called "Spalato" in Serbia (Adriatic Sea) through "Mesembria" in Euxine Sea.  ::)

The Northern Greece and may be the Peloponissos belongs to Wolf Knight.Maybe you can occupy the Minor Asia + Constantinople and some of Aegean Islands + Cyprus. You also can enter our alliance.

Grangel, your Kingdom is purple,
Coyote, yours in Blue,
Justindo, yours in gray,
Shirona, yours in light orange,
Playmojager, yours is yellow. :)

I also expanded Giorginetto's, Kingdom,
Gis' Kingdom,
and Playmofirth's Kingdom...
As well as a teeny bit of my own... :toot:

My Opinion is, give Sir wolf Also the Peloponissos(southern Greece) and Crete.Give Playmojager whole Minor Asia the Constantinople and Cyprus.Give Sharona Austria as he have asked and may a part of Bavaria.Give Giorginetto more land in France  (his Kingdom must be vast as his army)and if you can give me also the northern Italy.

Well, I would have to ask Playmojager if he was ok with loosing his territories in Greece.

As for Sharona I will have to go back to an actual map and see where Austria is exsactly... ???
(Sorry if I put you in the wrong place Sharona. :-[ )

I am tempted to give Giorginetto more land in France...
But I want to make room for others.
Otherwise I am more likely to fill the small pocket in England first.

And remember, you may have a large army, but not as much territory,
because the other areas around you buffer you too well.
Either you need a large supply line to attack anywhere else (which is cumbersome)
Or you need several divisions to attack multiple towns at once
so as not to leave your flanks open when you capture another city.

As for your wish of Northern Italy,
I think I can oblige. Though I am wary as to giving too much land in certain areas
(such as France, and Italy) because in period these were very populated areas,
With several Kingdoms encompassing each.
And I am wary about giving to much land to people in England
as that may also be a favored area on the forum.

I hope you can see my predicament. :-\

Personally I do not feel very much about keeping it historically correct. I like using the
map because it is easy to identify with, other then that though each lord can have his lands be populated however he wants IMO.

Just adding 2 cents!

Maybe we can poke BlackKnightsRealm to participate?

WoT your Kingdom is uncertain, you cannot defend those territories!! Too Far away!! May you claim of part of Denmark along with Norway or Sweden!
El Jefe has Arabian roots so you may split Spain in horizontal base and also give him a part under Gibraltar.

Brilliant idea to give the Sardinia and Corsica to BKR !!

WoT It's great...but I would like to have my original "smaller" land back.

I think for now it looks better if it is aligned with yours on top and Giorginetto's below.

Also I am using my lands for a Dungeons and Dragons setting meaning my lands have Magic and what not...at least thats how I see it.

This could be a great reason for some tension between countries. Their stand point on magic.

Also I would like to have several races (Dwarves/Gnomes/Elves) I don't know how you all feel about that.

Thirdly...I would like to claim the steel/weapon industry. Or at least put it forward as the main Source of trade for my area.

Also please make my area one colour, because my bit is a bit confusing...maybe if we can host it somewhere we can make it a clickable map with more detailed close up maps *grin*

Also where is Tiermann (Salish) and Martin...it would be nice to have them participate...Also Tonguello?

Keep up the great work!

It may be harder to take my lands then you think...
But if no one wants Denmark, I will take a small portion of it,
maybe just part of the North West. :)

Ok, I will make your Kingdom back down to size a bit...
I just figured that since everyone else was expanding theirs, it was only fair to expand yours as well. :)

This could be a great reason for some tension between countries. Their stand point on magic.

Also I would like to have several races (Dwarves/Gnomes/Elves) I don't know how you all feel about that.

I love magic, and if we want to add a little to this world, be my guest. ;)
I have some magical things in my Kingdom as well.

Thirdly...I would like to claim the steel/weapon industry. Or at least put it forward as the main Source of trade for my area.

You of course can have whatever trade you want in your Kingdom.
Rutileo dabbles in a bit of everything, as it is a fantastic place for ships crossing the North Sea to rest at.

As you may know, ships had to travel along the coast in these days, so as not to get lost,
and if anything went wrong it could easily be fixed by heading towards shore right away.
Thus, when crossing larger bodies of water, such as the North Sea,
ships would look for "jumping" places, to rest and stock up on supplies.
Since Rutileo is right in the middle of the North Sea
between Scotland, parts of England and Sweeden, Norway, and Denmark,
along with farther places like Russia, Poland, and perhaps parts of Germany
It makes a natural jump point, and thus has become very rich merchant wise.

Also please make my area one colour, because my bit is a bit confusing...maybe if we can host it somewhere we can make it a clickable map with more detailed close up maps *grin*

I will... unless you want to map out for me, all of the individual Kingdoms in your land,
and I can put them on the map, and tie them together to look like one kingdom,
While still showing their individuality. :)

Also where is Tiermann (Salish) and Martin...it would be nice to have them participate...Also Tonguello?

Keep up the great work!

Thanks!

Yes I agree with Gis! A little D&D settings would be great!  ;D

Ok, I have an idea if everyone is ok with it...
Gis has brought up the point, that he wants other races in his land.
I though that maybe there could be Kingdoms on the map
that show the land of Elves, Dwarfs, and other magical creatures.

If everyone likes the idea I would be ok with mapping out a few places
I think these creatures would live in.

I like the idea of giving them large chunks of the Northern realms...
Like Norway and Sweden, maybe parts of Denmark and Russia.
The North could be the sort of "unexplained land" full of magic, and the old ways. :D

So what does everyone think? ;D
I love it! Thanks for bringing up these ideas Gis and Wolf Knight!

Here is my idea...

People have until the 15th of Feb to claim lands inside the "black line" (the black line is just an example...WoT, please draw it any way you like)

All unclaimed lands will populated by WoT with all manners of stuff, forests, mountain ranges, rivers, races and so on. We will then "start"!!

All claimed lands are to be defined by the person that claimed it. If you have irragularities with your neighbour (about landscpape elements and what not) solve them in a friendly manner or ask for help in solving them :-)

All people that would like to participate at a later point will have room outside of the "black line" in which there are still un defined lands for them to do with as they please :-)

I will gladly offer help in defining the unclaimed lands if you need it WoT (and if you think it a good idea)

something like this?

The resolution on the map is pretty low, so it's not ideal!

Please do send them to WoT! He might need some more because a couple have no defined there Coat of Arms yet!

I also encourage others to create their own heraldry if all the Playmo heraldry is taken.
I have a different idea for it all though...
I think I can make it fit a bit better with the map.

Here is what I said "All unclaimed lands will populated by WoT with all manners of stuff, forests, mountain ranges, rivers, races and so on"

The next part of the sentence was missing. it should be: "It stays unclaimed"

So it will gives us teritorries to conquer and fight over with out starting in on eachother right away *grin*

However the person conquering it might need to incorperate what you have put there in their strategy :-)

Yeah I know...I might be making it a bit to complex...sorry  :-[ :-[

Sorry,
Grangel has Malta,
Denmark and Iceland are both too far away,
plus you are separated by other countries...

It would be too difficult to hold them.
And there isn't a real way you could have claimed them in the first place.
With the territory you have as of now.

ooops, so sorry, and to a neighbor too.
Henceforth I shall endeavor to always spell your screen name accurately shirona33.

At this point Salish has been represented in the tournament by Sir Bartholomew in his blue and yellow livery. That is actually the colors of the Duchy of Kalapuya in the NE section of Salish. Bart is the second son of the Duke. His late mother was the younger sister of the Queen making him the King's nephew but not in close line to the throne. I am going to do custom heraldry for Salish. I am thinking I will depict the rare Salish Rhinoceros of the deep forest of j'Dun. Either that or the Arctic Flamingo that winters in the Salish wetlands. :D

Could we have a little of Georginetto's territory released for others? He seems to have grabbed a lot. I'd like the SE of England please, just the Home Counties, nothing spectacular.
