Again, I have to thank Arnaud for these designs.
Though all the printing and cutting goes to me. ;)
I decided since Richard was such an excellent figure
that I really wanted his tent to be something special!
So Arnaud sent me an email with these pictures:
I quickly sized them, then printed them out onto some regular paper for testing.
This is the result:

As you can see it is pretty good, but there are several tears
and a few crinkles that I didn't really like.
Plus the paper was really flimsy, so I decided to go a different route.
Originally, I had thought that I would stick the two tent pieces in,
and then the design would print on those,
But that would be very tricky to get precise so I scratched that idea.
I then remembered a different sort of paper that we had,
It was much stronger and thicker,
and best of all, I could use my leather punch to punch holes in it
without ripping what I was punching.
So I tested it, and these are the results:
You can see the difference between the two pieces,
The new design on the left, and the old one on the right.

Then I put my new tent into a display I am making and voila!

I hope you like it. :xmascheer:

That looks fantastic, WoT! Very good job. What kind of paper is it?
-
Well. I do like it! Excellent work, WoT. And your second paper does the job perfectly!
Cheers.
Arnaud

An excellent custom tent, WoT. Congratulations to you and to Arnaud.
The difference between the two types of paper can be clearly seen - the thicker one also gives stronger colours as well as a stronger end result physically.
-
Excellent job!!! Yeap second option gives better results! Great design too Arnaud!!!
-
wow! excellent tent Wot!
I agree with the rest, the second one is so much better a choice!
-
Thanks all, I believe it is just regular, good, old construction paper. ;D
I also like how it "yellows," it makes it look more like real canvas.
Glad you like it. :elf:
-
 I wouldn't have even thought of using that, but it's the obvious choice of course! Construction paper. ;)
-
what is construction paper? :-[
did you try to print in real canvas?

Construction paper is just thick paper. :)
And no, I didn't try to print on real canvas,
It probably would be to thick to fit in the printer,
And I don't think it would look very good on something as small as Playmobil. :)
-
Construction paper is the kind of paper that usually comes in a pack with lots of bright assorted colors. It's thick and somewhat stiff, but very easy to cut with dull scissors. ;) It's made for children mostly, to make various crafts with. But as illustrated here, it can be useful to adults, too!
-
oh ok ..I know what it is now.... thanx :)
-
Excellent work, WoT :wow:! Your dedication to improvements is shown with the second design material being the best selection :)9!

Looks like a good place to drink...
egg nog egg nog egg nog egg nog egg nog egg nog egg nog egg nog egg nog egg nog
I couldn't resist. ;D
-
It sounds like you've been drinking too much EGG NOG already! :hmm:
-
Thanks Bill. :)
And yes, it is a magnificent place to drink Egg Nog. :xholly:

Great Tent indeed WoT, It really makes him look ready for a tournament :-)
-
Very impressive WoT- love it. Great use of the frame from the Roman tent.
Mmm, egg nog minus the egg and nog, rum. :xmascheer:
-
The final result is very nice.;)

Mmm, egg nog minus the egg and nog, rum. :xmascheer:
Or, to put it into formulaic form: egg nog - (egg + nog) = rum
-
Glad you guys like it. :D
I was surprised by the outcome myself.
I didn't think it would look anywhere near as good.
It's a happy surprise though. ;D

Hmm, no rum in mine. ;D

Dude - sweet tent!
Have you ever taken any of the material that Playmobil uses for their tents/sails into a fabric shop and asked them if they have anything like it? That is something I should do, I want to make custom sails for some of the ships I have. I think that fabric would be thin enough and smooth enough to run through a printer.
Wonder if Playmobil the company would tell a person why type, weight, etc of material they use ... ?
-
This looks absolutely fantastic. I wish I could make one of these for my (3669) Black Dragon Army.

Thank you,
but I was not the one to put the stickers on.
That would be Arnaud, or Cowabounga.
