Title: Blue knights-viking shields
Post by: Wolf Knight on October 30, 2010, 08:55:45
I am trying to fit viking shields on knights, since I often find myself lacking the appropriate shield for a knight...

Here is a result!

Blue knights....

and their leader who I did not customise but I could not let him carry the unicorn shield he is actually carrying...

comments? ideas?

The Knights look great Sir Wolf! That feather on the helmet is really great!! You'll see it on one of my customs soon too!!

For some reason the shape of the helmet on the leader doesnt fit well with the other helmets and he could use a bit of customizing, For some reason he doesn't compliment the regiment. I like him as a singly unit though!!

Beautiful custom figures Panos :wow:! Very impressive that you didn't need to do extreme modifications to achieve such excellent results! That gives proof of why we all need access to the German Playmobil DS department.

I'll agree with you Gis!!! You're always the voice of improvement for my projects!!

I also did not like this guy much, but cannot decide whan gold/blue klicky parts to use since there aren't many... maybe if I used the simple helmet visor for him...

Yes Bill, for me that is the point!! I love simple customs, or  swaping parts, as some people might like to call it!! And this is exactly the point why we need access to more items from DS!!!

Glad you liked the Blue Knights!!!!

I really like these blue knight customs, Panos.  With your custom creations, the shields no longer look particularly "Viking".  I agree with Gis that while the gold knight looks very good on his own, he doesn't really seem like he's a part of this group.

I like them a lot! I would try to put some color (maybe yellow and black to match the shields) in the light blue banner to cut a little the plain blue.
I love the leader! That helmet is beautiful!
Grangel is looking fot that golden helmet! He might try to copy you!  8-) 8-) 8-) ;D (just kidding)
Cheers
Gaston

Excellent work, Panos, proving (as others have already said) that simple customs can be the best.  I like the Viking style shield with knights and it is not necessarily wrong as there was a transition period when the Viking type shield was used by knights.

I am not aware of this transition period Gordon! Certainly worths looking into... Thanks for your educational feedback dear friend!

Well, it's really an inspired guess.  The Normans used Viking type shields on horseback so there must be an in-between period when this type and the shorter type of shield usually associated with knights was used.  In any case, your knights look perfectly all right with the Viking shield.

Yes, something that can be seen in the Bayeux Tapestry as well...

I must say, its difficult to decide what to do with the leader... Half of you like him and half of you don't... I love a challenge guys!!! Thanks to all!!!

Hey Panos,
I love those knights. The viking shield isn't a problem, exept for the leader: this round shield is awful. You could try to remove a sticker from a silver shield and put it on a golden one. The Normands used larger/taller shields, the closer you can get is by turning an aegyptian shield upside down though the square edges at the top don't fit with Normands shield. The Normand shield was also curved like the large Roman's.

Sound advise Arnaud! I have a gold shield like the ones the regular knights are holding...still, I feel as if it will not make any difference for the leader...I'll have to redesign him...

yes, it might not be a serpent-like creature on it, but the shape of the falcon-type bird fits well enough  ;)

I like your new leader much better, Panos, although his heraldry doesn't exactly match the others.  Still, it works reasonably well.

Thanks Justin! Well I thought the leader should have a different coat of arms right? As you said, it makes sense!
