At least they were at the Zirndorf Funpark yesterday.
Here are the two small diorama from the shop. Enjoy!
Personally I think the castles DO look brilliant, but what they have to offer for customizers or builders sure remains to be seen.

Agreed, so few real-world castles are pure squares or rectangles, it's nice to see an irregular shapes for castle.
I think the castles will be extendable (with official add-on extension sets) and therefore customisable, but it won't be nearly as easy as it is with Steck or System X, and there won't be any option to build upwards as there is with Steck.

The curved outer walls are a great improvement. Thanks for the pictures, Simon.
-
Yes! Yes! Yes! Just in time for my birthday
The only problem now is: my wife forbade me from going to the funpark before the big day, just in case I buy something that's already been bought to me by a member of my family.

Thanks for sharing Simon!
They sure look good cant wait to see them IRL!

Restraint Bolingbroke restraint!

OH WOW !!! must have must have must have!!!! They might not be expandable but they sure look amazing!!!
-
Out of curiosity - the last big castle (system X), was there an expansion pack for it? Cause even though I prefer steck, I would still buy one of these if it were possible to add more walls and towers to it.
-
@Bolingbroke and Martin Milner:there is at least one add-on for the new castles. It only adds one length of wall, BUT, if you look closely at the side opposite the double-doors: there is a second storey there, which means you CAN build upwards, doesn't it? :yippee:
Martin, I agree with you, this non-too square shape is a great step towards reality.
Cheers.

There were three expansion sets for 3268 - Knights' Empire Castle (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3268)
and these were: 7758 - Wall Extension for Knights` Empire Castle (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=7758)
7761 - Tower Extension for Knights' Empire Castle (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=7761)
7836 - Wall Extension B for Kings Castle (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=7836)

And this is for the new castle, I presume. Not much in the way of customizing, but it's still better than nothing, I would say. Thanks for the info, I'll check the links out ... NOW ;D
(I should be doing something else this morning, but I just don't feel like it).

Does PM supports customizing? I always wonder.....
Anyway.....I was never into this theme.....but this one and DragonLand are growing on me..... Gosh! more money to spend, more space, more crazyness!! MORE FUN!!!!!!

Not customizing like... Creating new figures, heat treating, and other stuff.
Customizing as in making the castle different.
Like with Steck, you could make it anyway you wanted to.
-
I really like these castles just the way they are. I wonder what is the price range for these? The empire castle was steep in my opinion. The dragon knight towers were at a good price range.

I'll agree I got the empire castle two years ago for 200 euros and the dragon tower for 100 euros. But also got the extensions and that is another 50 or so euros!!

I am sorry to sound so negative and old fashion but neither do i like these new castles neither the system x one. Having a fair amount of mediaval steck , i am getting to the point where if i dont buy these new sets i shall be missing so many great new klickies etc which is getting very annoying
These dioramas as all dioramas look fantastic but thesenew castles are non customisable , non realistic and remind me of these cheap chinese castle sets been sold for $29.99 at big bargain toy stores and fares .. Not playmobil standards I am used to .. not me anyways that grew up with the fabulus 344x mediaval houses etc ... no... no.....noooo.... no comparison or whatsover
Steck forever .

I feel you George, but we've got to keep an open mind!! These castles might look cheap and be non expandable but they are great to have them as single units!!! More scenario options with them, new kingdoms, new characters, new thrills and adventures!!!

Unfortunately not. The 3268 Knight's Empire Castle has a second storey in the Keep section (at the back), but as it's all one big moulding there's no way to expand upwards. The walls have the battlements moulded in, unlike Steck walls where the battlements are a separate moulding. Thus the walls too cannot be expanded upwards. Only the towers are expandable vertically. I would be very surprised if the new system castles are any different in this respect.
It's good to know the curtain walls are expandable horizontally via an add-on set, that may allow a degree of customisation depending on the wall sections, angles, and method of connection, but not vertically.
As soon as anyone gets one of these castles I'll be very interested to see some closer pictures of the connections and sections.
I understand that for child-length arms and small hands, there is a limit on how big a castle can be and still be played with. Since I am blessed with a lot of storage space, I may be able to keep these latest castles intact when put away. If the clips are strong (as the Dragon Towers are) it may be very difficult to take them apart, and this may be an advantage for moving them about, but I wonder at the storage space available in German houses and German children's bedrooms for toys.
-
I´m an absolute SysX-lover, because you can build as you like through all ages- with steck you just can build mediaval times...
You just have to look for needed parts in all different sets- in my castle for example the roof comes from the post-office. The inner part of the castle is big enough for a boy to sit and play inside the castle.
The only problem is that geobra made these bulky one-piece-buildings like the dragon-towers f.e., these are not usable at all >:(.
So I would prefer if you be a little more tolerant regarding SysX and not so much steck-fanatic

yes that's the only good ;) as george said they are like these cheap chinnese castles they sell on the streets ???
-
Despite being a steck fan... and not wanting to buy any more castles (I've resisted the Dragonland towers so far) I rather like these new castles! I might even buy one when they finally make it to this far away land.
Thanks for posting the pics, Simon!

Thanks for the pics Simon - fantastic. I am looking forward to a review. I want to buy a castle for my son for Christmas and would appreciate a review if anyone intends to buy one before then.
I also LOVE the photos of that custom system x castle...I didn't think it could be adapted to well.
-
While I like Steck and System X for their expandability and regret these new castles are not the same, I must say that I do like the looks of them as is. I'll probably end buying them. :-[
-
I am a Steck lover by i can tell that those newcastle looks far better and real than the 3268 castle.
-
I do like the looks of these but I see one major flaw with them (or I might be just blind *grin*)
Where are the rulers supposed to live?
I only just realized this as I wanted to use one of these for the center of a big city as the royal castle. But there is NO housing.
The 3628 like the 3666 had nice living quarters smallish but they were there (to be expanded upon of course)
They are still great and I will probably get them anyway but they are not high on my priority list!
-
Maybe they lived in a bunker, Saddam Hussein-style.
-
Hi all!The new Knights theme has just arrived at my favorite toystore, and I must say it looks AWESOME!!!Really old school "Playmobil-ish",but with just enough great new details on the figures and fantastic new gear, like those great helmets and shields.Oh,and I really wouldn't be too hasty to write off the new castles as "cheap looking chinese stuff",when you see them "hands on" in reality they look and feel really great!
-
i am getting to the point where if i dont buy these new sets i shall be missing so many great new klickies
You can always order the loose figures from DS,like I do when I just want one or two particular figures from a set. ;)
-
The two klickies in the corner - top left - which set are they from as I don't recognise that helmet?
-
You can always order the loose figures from DS, like I do when I just want one or two particular figures from a set. ;)
If you live in a country that has a DS service, and if they have the figures in stock...
Waaay nicer than the previous generation of knights that came with the 3268 and rock castle.
-
So far so AWESOME!!! :o :o :o :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :o :o :o
Playmobil have really out-done themselves, the new Knights look Great!
I love the new Nasal Helms.
No more cutting off Viking horns. ;D
I cant wait till they reach here, I will make them their own Barony.

it seems to be good ;) but it's the shield that covers big part of the leg and i cannot see it properly ??? ???

Mmm. I have mixed feelings about the new leg design. It's a bit too detailed for my liking!
-
I think these look great- Love the heraldry. Of course I'm pretty accepting of modern playmobil- I have never been disappointed since 1987 (when I got back into the toy) with the new catalogue... And since discovering Playmo on the internet in 2001, I look forward to the autumn so's I can know what to save my $$$ for in two years time...
-
The big castle is selling on the internet for *gulps* 150 euro. It's going to take a lot of grovelling to get anyone to buy that for me! ;D ;D ;D

how much was the immediate last castle sold for in EU?? It took us 330 EURO to get that.....
:'(
-
No - it was cheaper than that, around 200 or lower if I remember correctly. But hey don't complain: you can buy a Rolex for 2/3 of the European price, from Hong Kong!
:P :P :P

I love watches.....do you work in the watchmaking industry?? I wanna be part of it.......
They may be priced cheaper here in Hong Kong, but the assortment is quite different....some of the cooler design and models are absent here :'(
-
Viewing the pics once again. Initially I dont like the new leg piece of these yellow knights, but I am now OK with them, and they just look way better than those from the dragonland. I think their printing is not too complicated, and resemble the root of the traditional playmobil knights. Will get them through DS later........
Is it just me? Probably my understanding to the middle age history is second to zero, so I dont like those knights without crest on their helmet. >:D

No - I just love watches, too. Next time I visit, I'll buy a couple: the amount you save is amazing. I love HK!
The problem with these legs, other than being too detailed for my liking, is that from a distance (i've yet to see them in real life, so i'm basing this on the pictures) they make the knight's legs appear too skinny. But i'll probably like it eventually. About the scabbard, I still have some reservations however.

Could you please dont lable Chinese that way? I understand some of the stuffs from sweatshop are exported from Mainland China, but this is also the responsibility of the producers, and China is not the only country executing the cheap stuffs manufacturing. And, thanks for the pics btw~~~

Yes.....chicken legs....this is the problem. And I guess the next special, to be out in 2011 spring, is also endowed with these legs.
Cool....you can get watches from Hong Kong and we can get playmobil from EU. Well....with the now more affluent Mainlanders (those new rich =___=!) the demand of watches is getting higher and higher. And some of the earlier less popular watches makers, like Breguet, are also opening official stores in Hong Kong. I have mixed feeling about this, sigh.

The laser shooting ones?? They are good to look at, but I am feeling regret for getting the target set that comes with the green and red knights from the theme. They just look soooo out of place. Yet I love the purple priest.

It's not just Rolex, it's pretty much every 'luxury' watch brand you care to mention. And of course, the place is beautiful.

No, I don't like the Lazer ones,
I am referring to these: Knights. a question for knights theme lovers. Are castles 3666 and 3888 compatible? Are both steck?

Read the whole thread-you'll see it wasn't me who "labelled the chinese"...I just reacted on an assumption that was WAY wrong concerning the new castles... ;)

With you George!!!!!!!! :wave:Bring it back 8} 8}

The only thing I don't quite like in these castles -- by seeing them -- is that there's no actual house in each of them, but a "scenary roof", that represents an indoor room, but, in fact, is open :hmm:
It's funcional for playing (and even story-telling), but it brings no great possibilities for wonderful miniature castle building ... Customizers might miss houses. (I'm not a customizer myself, but I miss steck in the playmobil world :-\ ...)
They look good, though.
And the klickys are awesome! :)
Gus
:blackhair:

ps. They haven't reached Amazon.com yet ...
-
Gah - I saw the detailed pictures on Klickywelt and realised they've used the belt + annoying-swordholder-bit-that-falls-off on many of the klickies! Nevermind us collectors - I wonder how many clumsy kids lose such bits during playtime, never to find them again. Apart from the fact that they look really really ugly. Why couldnt they give them the old-style 'Masai' belt, at least, which is also found in many old medieval sets?
-
And they're already complaining about quality issues >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D
I hope it's not like the Romans all over again: half of my romans have an annoying stoop ... while the other half can't keep a helmet on: it falls off all the time.

I have about 500 roman klickies and i have see this problem probably in 2 or 3 klickies all together. I have also bought adidtional roman helmets and i didnt have any problem ...

You were lucky ja :)

The last 'stoopy' klicky i bought was the pirate special (the one with the tattered flag). The stoop was so bad and I got so annoyed that I just superglues his bum in a straight position >:D ;D

My latest one would be the priest from the dragonland (purple evil priest) and the african guy in mask from DS. It is getting more and more common too. Not just stoop, as I have pointed out earlier.....the eyes of the kids are also defective all the time. I am talking about 8 in 10 I have got. Somehow I am giving up ranting on their quality issues, till you raise it up here
-
The way things are going, I'd rather spend my money on the old stuff for sale on ebay, rather than on this newer pap.
-
Probably true, Older stuff is most times greater than the newere ones...on the other hand, I've just checked the prices on ebay...and I am very tempted.... Only thing stopping my is these gys will make it to the greek market next year...
-
As far as I'm concerned, the 'collector experience' is much, much better on ebay - you get to track down old sets, or incomplete sets or missing bits, and then therre's the anticipation of having the items in the post, and the thrill in receiving the packets and opening them and enjoying things you never got the chance of seeing on the market when they first came out. True, sometimes it's more expensive that way, but if you trawl ebay properly, you're sure to find a couple of good bargains.
I'll still be buying these new knights for customising, but now that I've seen the pictures up close it sort of ruined it for me. Those belts! Nevermind the silly siege machines straight out of Army of Darkness. But the belts ... Grrr ...

which regional ebay do you guys shop at the most??
I get most of the playmobil from the german ebay, sometimes ebay uk and very rarely ebay us.

.de for me.
The stuff on the uk site is almost always more expensive, the choice is somewhat limited ... and worst of all many sellers only ship to the UK.

Shipping costs are too high. And I do find more playmobil good deals in ebay.de

Instead of Super-glueing the frames to the Klicky's rear-end,
Just squeeze the frame together at the bottom, and they will lock in tight. :)

I know this is off-topic, but I too like watches. Perhaps we need a thread about this in the Playmo-free zone?

wow, so do you collect the wristwatches and the victorian clocks from playmobil??

I don't have any Playmobil wrist watches (do they exist?) but I have some of my own. I also have a couple of the Playmobil Victorian grandfather clocks that I like very much. :gent:

I like the darker one from the first Victorian parlor/dining room.

I like the darker one from the first Victorian parlor/dining room.
Do you think they are still available as spare parts in DS?
same here, and I would say the darker one looks a lot better. Too bad I love original parts only and dont want to put paint on :-[

Shipping costs to Europe from the US are quite astronomical. And since the goods come from outside the EU, it's a bit hasslesome once they arrive at customs.

Hi!
To suppress the stoop, just dismantle your clicky, remove the clip holding the arms and legs, take pull the legs off and then bend several times the bottom part (blade-like) towards the front. Put all the parts back in place and your clicky wil stand upright just fine. Like it had a broomstick up his @@@! :-[
Cheers.

sadly using different methods would leave marks on either the kclikies' neck or the knee....and the major target customers, the kids, might not know this method and simply let down by playmobil. QC is really important :-\

I get most of the playmobil from the german ebay, sometimes ebay uk and very rarely ebay us.
Me too , sometime from Uk also , primarily Germany . viva ebay , enough steck there to build a proper sized house !!!!

I "strengthened" maybe a few hundred klickies-not a mark on them. You're right about the kids,though-they don't know the proper technique or have the skill to do it.And yes-quality control could indeed be improved, there are more and more boxes with-luckily!-too many parts in them too,but they could as easily be missing some...

thanks for the tip - never tried it myself but will do so the moment i go home. i use the hans beck method to dismantle the klickies - never broke one, but i never managed to succeed in dismantling a fatty. when we were young klickies were much easier to take apart, i used to pull them with my teeth ;D

I looking forward to receiving them.

Do you think they are still available as spare parts in DS?
same here, and I would say the darker one looks a lot better. Too bad I love original parts only and dont want to put paint on :-[
I highly doubt they're still available from DS. I purchased the first red dining room set MISB from ebay for a pretty penny, but I really wanted it.
