What is hte best way to remove comptetely the playmobil silicon based glue from the original playmobil dioramas ??? thank you ...
-
Playmobil uses hot glue most of the time. I usually take a screwdriver and get rid of it. If it sticks too heavy you can deepfreeze it- the glue becomes brittle and is easy to remove.

What Martina said George!! Its easy to take off!!!

I have never before heard about deep freezing glue to remove it - great tip - thanks Martina!!

It's just the same thing with the glue as cleaning candle holders from melted wax. Just put it in the freezer for a couple of hours and it can be removed easily afterwards.
Good luck testing it!

I'd never thought of freezing either, Could it doesn't damage the plastic if left too long?

The klickies feet and some otehr bits are glues rather strongly , i guess using a hair pistol with hot hair and pint it to them for a few secs can melt the glue ???

deep freezing?? I'd never have thought about it... that's a good idea :)

Don't worry. After several years of practicing this method I never had to observe any sort of negative result.
In any case it's much better than the other method suggest above to heat it. Heating could make the Klicky soften and transform. So I only use heat when exactly the result of softening the plastic is required.
For example heat is a good method to repair old-style horses whose hang their heads. Just remove the head of the horse an heat its shoulders with a hairdryer. Than press its shoulders together a bit. And be careful: The horse will be hot! Than put the head back in place and the horse will hold its head proud upright from now on.

Do not heat the glue, if the part has holes, corners.

George, you can remove the glue with a little flat screwdriver.Try to find a spot to insert the screw between the glue and the klicky and pull upwards the screw driver. This usually removes the glue in one piece.Large piece of glues need more pulls.
But be carefull because you can hurt your hands.!!!

Easy way to "deep freeze" something is to use a can of "Dust-Off Disposable Compressed Gas Duster" which can be found at most office supply stores. Turn it upside down and let the liquid sprays out and it cools to around -20 degrees and with the small tube, you can aim it very accurately. I use this method for removing decals.
