Hi,
i've recently been undertaking the hideous job that is sorting out spare parts and ordering the into draws (this happens about every two weeks for me) 8}
Anyway i've found these parts that I am not too sure about where they are from.
The first is a large knob that has the same fitment as on the back of the turntable crane and fire engine, but just doesn't quite fit and the round bit is 1" in diameter.

The second and third pieces are wheels. I have put a ship's roll along wheel next to them for size comparison. I have about 20 or so of each of these two wheels and I just don't know where they come from although it is probably obvious :eh?:

Thanks
Damo :)

One of your wheels for sure comes from the hospital beds and/or shopping cars of the supermarket or airport sets:

I think, its the bigger one (wheel 2).

I'm sure the first one is the turntable control knob off the 3178 fire engine and the 3761 crane.
The wheels are off various parts which will take a bit of time to check. The trolleys in the garden series are one.

wheel 1 is this one:

Thanks Socrates!, they do appear to be these :)
Although I don't know what I am going to do with all of these if anyone needs any ???

The ones on my crane and fire engine are around half the diameter on the turny bit, though :eh?:

There are two sizes of knob on the fire engine and crane, those on the turntable ladder and crane jib, and the one on the rear of the turntable. The latter is about twice the size of the others. I've attached three photos of the turntable knob from my 3761 crane, one with a ruler and the other two copying your photos. The only difference I can see is that the thickness of the knob in your photo is maybe greater than in mine. This may be due to wear and tear on yours (my crane, sadly, has hardly been out of the box) or more refined production techniques on my newer one.

This seems reasonable, although i've just cracked the little tube bit at the back trying to get it in. I have a 3/4" diameter one at the moment and that seems to fit in fine :eh?:

I have to agree with you, flatcat! The splines for finger adhesion are not a fine pattern like on the 3525 & 3781 ladder trucks turn knobs. Now I'm really confused!

I'm sorry to hear about the damage, flatcat. I wonder if there has been a change in size and design at some time of both the piece the knob fits onto and the knob itself. Certainly, the one on my 3761 is, as you can see, pretty much 1 inch (25mm) in diameter.

I had a sudden thought today and went up into the loft this evening and got out my 3781 to check the knob for turning the turntable base. It is about 3/4 of an inch in diameter and smaller and finer than the one on my 3761 crane. I would suggest that what you have in the photo is an early and rather battered knob for turning the turntable on a 3761 crane and not for a 3781 as I suggested at first. I had thought that Playmobil would have used a common knob for these two models but it seems not. Certainly, the weight which has to be turned on the crane (especially if it has a load on the hook) is much more than on the fire engine and so a larger and easier to grasp knob was used.

You may be on to something, Gordon. There was an earlier model 3527 PM crane with Transport Union decals prior to the 3761 version.

I had also had a look into this today and did notice that the yellow mobile cranes on ebay had the larger knob on them, rather than the smaller ones on my fire engines. This would also make sense because I have a few other knob /winding parts from the yellow mobile crane set, so in with them it shall go.
Did you know that the green mobile crane from mega construction set 4084 doesn't have mechanism for turning the turntable - they expect you just to turn it yourself, even though they haven't changed the casting of the turntable as it still has a hole to slot the knob into whilst on the move 8-)

No, I didn't know that. It's a shame that that feature has gone as it was a nice detail and a nice bit of mechanics or youngsters to learn from.
