Title: Playmobil Interactive Knights (Nintendo DS game)
Post by: Martin Milner on March 24, 2010, 01:19:38
I invested $19.99 in this game today.

I've completed 6 of 90 quests in just a couple of sessions, fairly simple gameplay (as might be expected in a game aimed at 4-12 YOs), it plays much like the online games we've seen lately with sidescrolling 2D platform sections (akin to the old Mario games), and a top-down flying section on the main map where you ride a dragon to get from quest to quest. At present the map covers just a few islands, but it looks like I'm in the centre of a nine section map so it should open out later as I complete more quests.

There's no penalty for failing a quest (by losing all your lives) except starting that quest again, and the game autosaves when you successfully complete a quest or do anything else significant. I suspect I'll complete it in 20-30 hours of play.

Your character is a newly dubbed Knight trying to save the Kingdom from the evil Dragon Knights and their commander, a black sorcerer. As it's a game for kids, anyone you "slay" flickers and vanishes rather than falling down in a spreading pool of gore.

There are a number of mini-games along the way requiring use of the stylus, such as a mole-bashing game to clear the jousting lists before a tournament, and a catapult-firing game to knock attackers off their siege ladders.

I also bought the Pirate DS game, but I won't start that until I've finished or got bored with this one.

The box says Playmobil Interactive Knights, but it comes up on Amazon as Playmobil: Knights.
